overheating

Does anyone else's dog get really hot at night. We keep our house fairly cool - but he seems to get so hot. We put him outside in the middle of the night for about half an hour to an hour and then he comes back in and sleeps great! Is this normal? He is 4 and a half months old. the only problem with this - is he eats our sod and mud when he is outside  - but -- what do you do!!

so smart. Yup, gonna start that tonight. Poor things. I hate that they feel so hot. :(
Blue is like that still at almost two. Half the reason we have a doggy door. And if he barks he gets grounded into the house.
Does Blue eat mud too?? - his beard looks like Sherlock's does after he goes on a mud eating binge!!
We have a 15 month old. We have a very small fenced back yard area. no more grass. She will eat whatever she can find just about. Drives me nuts. She loves to carry, chew on, and eat sticks especially. During the day walks aren't so bad, but at night I have to sometimes walk with her on a short lease if she is being especially searchful.
