upset tummy

for the past 2 nights now Duncan has had very upset tummy. Starts around 11 pm......... he just moans and phewwwey upset gassey.

Normally an upset tummy wouldn't worry me, but having lost 2.... to bloat/torrsion i watch this like a hawk.

We've just had mylecon drops and some pepto.... out for short walk to work some gas out, and he is sleeping and not 'moaning' now as much, less gas right now. Guess this means we will be going in to see one or the other of his vet's to discuss this.....

Nothing new, no new food changes or anything else. Even giving him yogurt each evening so i don't know.

Well he's settled down now, going to go get the cat who is rrrrooowwwing with a toy downstairs to come up to bed now.

Hi Ali, one of the things I have learned over the years is that even though you have not changed the food some dogs start to have the same problems as Duncan.

There are no doubt many reasons for this I would suggest you try the following try and see if he will eat raw carrots, we usually have good results with this.

Secondly change his food for a few weeks to see if that helps, although you have not changed the food the company may have changed the recipe.

Thirdly water, sounds silly but if there is now some additive in your water supply that does not agree with him, I hope Duncan gets better soon.
Thanks Stuart!

I gave him the mylecon and some pepto and he is now sleeping well. Bless his heart 10 1/2 i worry . I just don't have any idea what is causing it.

I will go to the store and get some more mylecon and some gas x today....

I've fed IAMS Mini Chunks or 20 years now and never had a problem. I just think that once these guys get to this age.... you just never know and i keep a close watch on them.
Ali, hope Duncan is feeling better today. As Stewart mentioned it could be the water. A few of my friends work for the h2o dept here in Evergreen. One friend will call if the levels have changed a lot overnight. I will empty Obe's h2o bowl and give him somne filtered h2o or go get him some bottled water. Believe it or not it seems to have been the culprit. At least he wasn't gassy anymore.
What time is his last meal? We had Portage on three meals a day for a long time (we almost lost him to bloat when he wa eight). We were spreading his food out into three smaller meals a day.

Anyway, after years of this he suddenly started having problems at night. At first I thought it was emotional/mental. We even talked to the vet about doggie alzheimers. Then the gas started.

We went back to two meals a day, with the last one at six o'clock. The problems were much better. Almost an instant fix.

How late is he eating? That may be the issue. In Portage's case he was fine with it for years and then suddenly his body decided "no more."

Good luck to you.
Simone is 11 at least and has had to have a diet change. She's now on Dick Van Patten's food along with Pepic AC daily. Old doggies tummies can change. Come to think on it, she's been blowing foul air the last few days too..........hmmm :lmt:
he's better this morning. talked to vets.......we are just going to watch him. going to ace hardware... 20% off today..... lightbulbs....... have to buy em when their cheap now days!

Last meal is at 430 to 530 pm. I don't think it is the water.... we had a new bag of 'cookie treats" could be them........ so i will get some more mylacom drops and pepcid AC.......... May jsut give him one before bedtime....

Thanks for the tips.
Glad to hear he is doing better... I'd love to keep mine on Iams... but it is impossible to find around here now. None of the pet food stores will carry it, only grocery stores now, and none of them carry big bags of puppy food. :(
I don't have any suggestions - -but I wanted to wish the best for Duncan. An upset tum is never a happy thing for a sheepie!!!!
Thanks Stephanie............ and winnie!

okay talked to vet today. DUH  I had famatodine (generic for pepcid AC) in the refrig (why i don't know, don't ask).......but didn't think of it.
So tonight about half hour before he ate i gave him one. I am also restricting how much water he drinks now for a couple of hours and no outside and running around. Which that is normal, So hopefully we will have an uneventful night of sleeping tonight!
Hopefully it's just a little bug and he'll be feeling better soon.
Not sure what it was... but he is my 10 year old 'little puppy" again today!

I had totally forgotten about the Mylecon drops... something i will not be without in my 'medicine box' for the pets anymore!
I went right out and bought some and put it in the emergency med box yesterday. They sure made the difference.
