Sunday Dinner--do you all do something 'more'?

After reading about what everyone was having for Sunday Dinner, I got to thinking, do people eat something special on Sundays? I know my dad did growing up, but I never did.

So, do you go about thinking about Sunday as a day to make something a little more special or times consuming or longer cooking than usual (and this excludes holidays, etc...just a regular old Sunday).

Never. Weekdays, all the good stuff is made but I have the time unlike many people who work all day. Weekends mean I'm off unless we have guests (like this weekend).
I was brought up with a " Sunday Dinner " It was a plus for family time even though I could not wait to leave as a teen.

I do ccok on Sunday but more for fun not a sit down.
I have made a big meal on Sunday just for left overs for lunch durning the week.
Probably dates back to when people when to church on Sundays and "took the rest of the day off" except for the cook! Family time, no work......now it's just another day to catch up on house chores. Smarties do cook extra on Sunday for leftovers and lunches the rest of the week.

Me, I don't cook if I can help it. When I'm home from church, that's it. Hubby cooks that night, bless him. No extras though, he's lucky to handle a simple meal.
I don't make anything more special than usual on Sunday, unless my mother-in-law is here, then they expect a big dinner after church, to be consumed for lunch and leftovers eaten for supper. My family never did anything special for sunday, or even very often at all. Maybe three special meals a year.....Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Otherwise it was always just regular fare. For a long time you could tell what day of the week it was by what my mom cooked....Dad finally broke her of that habit, thankfully! :D
We try to get together one Sunday a month as a family.... It's very hard since they all have their own lives and agendas.....

The (adult) kids...grandkids..sometimes the granddogs..We eat, then either play games or talk about 'days gone by'.

The cousins, ranging in age from 2 yrs to 7 yrs color pictures for 'GRAMMY' to hang on the walls or they make interesting creations from playdough.

I love these types of Sundays. I really feel, when I cross the 'bridge', the memories of these special get togethers will be a warm fuzzy feeling in all their hearts.....
i usually cook something well planned for Sundays and Wednesdays....because those are my days off...so, yes, Sunday meals are usually better than the rest of the week...plus i go grocery shopping on Sundays...so there is always new inspiration!
Sunday is always a "cook something special" day, I was brought up on "Sunday" dinners.
Same here.... I was brought up on Sunday Dinners and we always have something nicer or "heartier" on Sundays and all sit down together and have a great time. The kids get me to laughing and we (usually) will end up playing cards or some game after dinner, but before dessert. I don't know about other famlies but we go in 40 directions each during the week between sports, work, the gym, rally and other stuff. So dinner is "Mom keeps it warm and you grab a plate when you are home". We are rarely all 5 together at the same time during weekdays.

Ex: This week we had~ Spegetti, tacos, homemade pizza, upside down day (where we eat breakfast for dinner), baked chicken breast.

Last sunday was Stuffed Salmon, rice pilaf and steamed fresh green beans. This sunday is Pot Roast with all the yummy vegees and homemade corn muffins and pie for dessert. Sunday is only day you get desserts and not each sunday either...
Yep-- grew up Sunday dinners, and we all still continue that. Usually a little heartier and more well planned. For instance, I would never say to John on a Sunday-- "It's every man for himself tonight" ... I have no problem saying that Monday - Saturday though. :D
No nothing special here. Not even growing up.

awww...come on over...there is always enough for one more!
We sometimes had a roast if everyone was home but not consistant.

I am however liking the new tradition my husband is starting. Taking the kids to McD's for breakfast sunday mornings so I can sleep in or have some time to myself. He meets his parents and mine there so the kids get grandparent time. (bonus they always wash my van on the way home.)
Growing up, Sunday dinner was always special except if it was my Mom's weekend to work at the hospital. Once we married and moved out my parents started to have brunch at their house every Sunday at 11:00. All of us kids/spouses/grandkids would get together and rarely missed this get together. This is the thing I miss the most since both of my parents have gone on to Heaven.

If we aren't busy on Sunday we do make a special meal now, just for the two of us. lol
I didn't grow up with a special meal on Sunday but I usually try to cook something nicer on Sunday. That said, the last six months or so, this has been sporadic. Usually, I roast a chicken or beef so there is left overs.
Growing up, Sunday was always "take in" night (I think that could be a Jewish thing). But now, I do try to make something special on sundays, since my daughter usually comes over.

Yesterday we celebrated her (23) birthday. And I made the seafood boil pot again, like last year. We had corn, potatoes, artichokes, lobster tail, shrimp, stone crab claws, king crab legs and mussels. I also made a spicy shrimp and butter recipe in oven that she loves.

Served with crunchy bread and birthday cake :bdcake: . OH YUM!
I am on my way!!!!!!!!
Hope there are leftovers.LOL
I LOVE seafood. :)
