crate training

Happy thursday!
We have a 4 month old OES - who is just the best dog in all aspects - except crate training. We both work from 8-5 and put him in his crate at approx 7:30 and then my hubby comes home at around 12 to let him out and play for about 20 minutes and then back in the crate till shortly after 5. He seems to be able to "hold it" until he is let out at lunch (usually  ), but everyday when I get home after work - he is yellow and wet and stinks like pee. Should he not be able to hold it for this time? And I know it is not good to give him a bath everyday - so what do we do about this. We are wetting a cloth with some shampoo and spot washing him.
He used to have his troubles at night, now nights are good, but the days are ... well .. :(

I think its about an hour per month - so 4 hours could be his limit. the difference in the afternoon could be he is stimulated fromt he play and not peeing properly befor ehe goes int he crate at lunch time. the good thing is he will soon be able to hold it long enough.
that is what I was thinking ... well hoping anyways!!
Another thought - make sure he's not tanking up on water when out over the noon hour.

I can see it happening - play hard, drink a bunch........ :(

That's what I was thinking, he might be loading up on too much water before he goes back in the crate after his noon break.
