Are tomatoes bad for dogs?

I heard that tomatoes are a health hazard? Anyone else heard that?

Joan seems to have heard this somewhere as well, but I don't recall ever reading it myself. I know that our first guy seemed to get the runs from tomatoes...

Anyone?
I don't know for sure if they are bad. I know they gave Ollie, out 1st OES HORRID diarrhea. Anything with tomato in it. Took a certain family member awhile to learn the lesson about tomato based leftovers.......

On the other hand, Dino, my son's Min Pin, loves them. He has no ill effects whatsoever. He eats them raw from the garden (one bite from each fruit, of course!) and even learned how to open the canned tomato jars cooling on towels on the kitchen floor.
I went through a whole garden season before I realized it wasn't wild animals eating ripe tomatoes 8O

I even think there are some in some of the raw mixes, the pulp is definitely in Nutro Ultra (I checked)
We give our dogs tomatoes all of the time and have not had any ill effects. Rebecca even helps herself to ones off of the vines. The dogs love them!

Our dogs also will pick grapes off of the vine too. No problems there either. Not to dispute that they are harmful, I just wonder what exactly the ratio is before a dog may get sick from eating them?
Mine have never had problems with them. Imagine a giant beefsteak tomato being tossed into the maul of a St. Bernard, it wasn't pretty but OH, how he loved them. And yes, he picked his own .......sigh.

I would think dogs prone to tender tummies should be excluded from such extra treats. NO way would I give any to MO now.
Our first dog (irish setter, collie, clydesdale mix) absolutely LOVED fresh tomatos. He would go into the garden and pick his own....and then chomp cheerfully on it - leaving tomato ALL over his chest  It didn't seem to do any harm as he lived to 14 years of age.

Of our current group of dogs, only Cassioipia is interested in tomatos. and she prefers hers nicely sliced up and presented on a china plate :D

You may find that as with humans they can aggravate arthritis
Edgar will try to graze on the tomato plants as well. He loves them. But then again, he loves anything that he can eat. He is a walking stomach.

Hey, very cool avatar! 8) 8)
They are poison...my grandfather used to make me eat them covered in mayo, or try. I fell asleep at the table many a times but, I never ate tomatoes. To this day I dont eat tomatoes or mayo sooo neither should Obe.

As I stated poison, stay far away from them.
