Dog Treats Recipe!

Here is an easy recipe - I got it at the agility seminar I was at last weekend. They had these yummy (the dogs went crazy for them!) treats and we got the recipe.
I made a batch and took them to class last night - all the dogs loved them, even the finicky toys!

1 pound of liver (beef or chicken), rinsed
Put it in a blender and puree

add the following ingredients to the blender:

1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 egg
1 pkg Jiffy corn muffin mix

Blend well.
Spread on 2 cookie sheets covered with aluminum foil - spray with non-stick spray.
Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
Cut into 1 inch squares with a pizza cutter when cooled.
Put in small snack plastic bags and freeze.

It suggested to cool them outside d/t the smell. However, I have a monster head cold, and I never smelled a darn thing!
Also, I used my larger jelly roll pan, and it all fit in one pan nicely.

Thses treats are soft and moist, but don't crumble. They make perfect training treats - you can break off small pieces with no mess.

I make a similar treat - uses whole wheat flours instead of Jiffy mix and my guys love them!!!!!

My book calls them liver brownies. hmmm maybe I'll make some this week instead of dehydrating liver for Marly's class treats - liver is the only thing besides cheese she will consitently take as a treat - she is such apicky diva, morgan would eat the wrapper the food came in - believe me he's tried!!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
they sound great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate to but treats that have things in them I don't want.
Others cost $$$$$$$
so this is great. :D :D :D :D :D :D
If you cut them and rebake........we call them liver biscotti. We use plain corn meal, thus no rising. Jiffy mix is a cool idea.
Dutch says, thank you Mom used to buy me liver treats at our old place but since we have moved couldn't find any, now she has no excuse
These really are easy, and only 4 ingredients - I like that.
I am not the biggest baking person, so I was really impressed.

These do end up flat, they don't rise at all from the height they are as a thick batter when you pour it in the pan.
They won't rise without wheat flour and a fair amount of mixing to activate the gluten. As stiff as the dough is, who can mix? I'm lucky to get it spread in the pan.
I'll have to check out my recipe and see what is different - I try not to feed the dogs corn so i know I use another flour and it does rise a bit - I bake it in a brownie pan. (Once I used buckwheat pancake mix when I was out of flour and the pancake mix was old :D )
I don't feed corn as a rule either. None of my dogs have issues with it, but I do limit it.

I figure they don't get enough in the treats to matter. It is really handy to just dump the box of mix in - my kind of baking!

I use jiffy mix corn bread to make bread for the Macaw much easier than the alternative :)
Well after a trip to the butcher and two trips to the store we remembered the liver

at that point I had to make brownies instead of dehydrating. myrecipe is very similar ,

1 pound liver
1/2 cup wheat flour
2 eggs

all goes in the food processor and after pureeing goes in a baking pan (I use a brownie pan)

350 degrees for 1/2 and hour. the recipe says to then cut into shapes - I cut into squares and refrigerate. - they never last long enough to worry about that.
ok have to ask

which is better weat flour or the jiffy corn mix???
I got confused. of course that does not take much LOL
i prefer the wheat flour only because I am not sure what all is in the jiffy corn mix. of course the Macaw eats it and he is okay :D
