Peapod Shopping Service

Does anyone use this service? I don't know if its just in Chicago, or nationwide. You order you're groceries on-line, and they deliver them to you.

Since I've been shopping for my stepmom, she seems to forget what day it is, and often calls me during the week to do her shopping, which I can't.

I was thinking about signing her up with Peapod, and ordering for her.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Yes, I know there is a fee, but I think it would be worth it.

A friend of mine used Simon Delivers up here in Minnesota and loved it.

She had surgery and wasn't able to move around very fast (she even posted it on her door just in case someone came and didn't wait long enough to get there) and the delivery man not only brought the groceries into the house, he put them away for her! I have also heard similar cases with people that are older.

There are good people still out there in the world that do good things!

I would call the company and see if they have any references for you to check up.

Here are a couple of chats online about it, make your own decision!

I understand it's quite good, I think it is part of Safeway/Kroger??? but I'm not sure.

My concern would be how would she deal with a stranger coming in to make the delivery? that would be my concern with my mom. With memory issues no matter how minor they are, they can be issues none the less. My mom had a stroke several years ago, 10+ and it left her with short term memory issues, something like this would or could be an issue for her. I would take her shopping for groceries, she would buy a butt load of stuff, then put it in the fridge or freezer and forget she had it, it would often go to waste. Also, her calls might be for something more, like really wanting (your) company. I realize now that my mom suffered from a nild depression and is now on an anti-depressant , whoa, what a difference a little medication can make.... thank the lord. I have said in the past, she should have been on this med her whole life... mine would have been much more pleasant...

Good luck and tell us if it works out.

safeway has their own delivery service....maybe you should check out the grocery store that she/you actually shops at and see if they have their own such service!
Peapod is part of the Stop and Shop supermarket chain here. I have bnot heard anything bad about them, with the exception of the prices either are or can be higher than their stores for the same item.
I will call the store we usually shop at. Its independently owner.

Bernice lives over 20 miles from me, and with working 2 jobs, its impossible to just "stop at the store" after work and drop stuff off.

So, I think I will make some calls.
