Yes they will contact by mail... 3 years later with penalties and late fees. Then tell you that you owe them x amount of money for a mistake in 2005. Well why didn't you tell me about it before and I would not have to pay late fees or penalties. Or I would not have to come up with ways (deductions) to get my back from you. People wonder why I have NO respect for the Gov. |

Yesterday, after two years of fighting it, the IRS realized the $3k that they wanted from me was their mistake (from 2005) but then decided (without doing any research of course) that my 2006 and 2007 returns must be wrong so I should "still pay the indicated amount." OMG. I'm really afraid my accountant may kill someone soon if this doesn't get rectified.  |
| Yes Jill I'm the same boat 3k. 2k federal and 1k to the state. It was only $15oo w/o the penalties and late fees. Funny, they contacted me with a letter on Jan 31 on this year (1st contact) stating I owe 3k... due Feb 4th. How about a little notice. I've only had the same Po Box for years now. |

We've sent in 9 identical copies of the info they needed 9 different times. Every time it was either lost or they were "working" on it, then lost it. They went ahead and "absorbed" the $1200 stimulus check from last year in the meantime, towards the debt I don't even owe them. In all fairness, I think they did that after they'd lost all the paperwork only 5 times so how could they have known? I've never gotten so much certified mail in my life. |
