Doctor Who

Am I the only geek here who watches Doctor Who? I watched back in the 80s when Tom Baker was Doctor #4. Couldn't get into Christopher E. as #9, but adore David Tennant as #10. Is it totally nuts that I want to buy all the boxed sets?

NOOOO Paula...

I began watching, I think from #3??? I LOVED the Tom Baker Dr. Who and the preceding Dr.'s were just OK.......I watched it ALL the time!!!!

I have to admit, I haven't tried the new ones yet...is it as good as TommyBoy?????
Whats the big deal about Doctor Who? Hehehehe. No I have never gotten in to it but my brother in law loves it. Then my husband saw it once at the in laws and he liked it. So as I write this we have the first disc of season one from net flix at our house. Maybe it will make more sense to me starting from the beginning. Maybe there will be another geek (my honey) who will get into it. Maybe I will hate it and have to suffer through 57 seasons of it.
Val, the new ones are much more sophisticated with the CGI. Baker's TARDIS looked like a cardboard box in comparison. But he had such a cheeky way about him. You can watch the new ones without having seen the old ones, particularly if you watch Series 1 (with Eccleston) first. The first episode of Series 1 explains everything. Series 1 ends with the Doctor regenerating into D. Tennant.

"Genesis of the Daleks" (with T. Baker) is showing on my AT&T OnDemand service, but it's only Part 1.

I think this is a show you have to watch more than once before you get into it. Half the plots don't make sense or are so convoluted I can't follow them. But it's fun!
What the heck is a Dr. Who? What channel?
Chris....

It was a BBC series on in the 80??? About a time lord that traveled through time in a London payphone box...(sorry the proper name escapes me ...)

It's a very interesting series...IMO....

Darn it...Paula...NOw you've gone and done it!!!! I will be looking for the original Dr. Who online to get the series for my very own.....

Speaking of BBC series and the 80's....FAWLTY TOWERS???? ANYONE???? JOHN CLEESE...AS BASIL?????? omg.....laughed until I cried during most of the episodes!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D soooooo funny!!!!!!!
The Doctor is a Time Lord who travels through time and space and has adventures. It's a British show (supposedly aimed at children but obviously adults enjoy it too) that had its start in the 1960s, ended in the 80s, and restarted a few years ago. The SciFi channel shows it early Friday mornings, like 5 am.

I am such a geek.
Watched the first epi of the new series and just couldn't get into it. Age? Loved the old series and yes, did have my fav Drs. then but liked each for their own twist to the character. Must admit, just reading "Dalek" makes me uncomfortable......I didn't care for their constant appearance. Grew tired of them.
I have a tin bank in the shape of the TARDIS (which is a police call box) with Peter Davidson on it (the 5th Doctor). SheepieBoss, catch an episode with the 10th Doctor (David Tennant). Some really good stories, especially in the 3rd series (one outstanding episode is Blink).

Exterminate!
   Yep, that's the line I grew to hate!

Nothing like muderous salt and pepper shakers.
I looove Dr Who especially the new series it's a pity David Tennant is gone .....not sure if I will like the new (11th) Dr Who??? he's blonde.
What the heck is a Time Lord?

Oh, and I loved Fawlty Towers. My fam used to watch all those British shows on PBS on it was either Fri or Sat night (are you being served, etc)
I too started my Dr. Who viewing with Tom Baker in the 1970's. I even knitted a ridiculous scarf like his. I think it was 14 feet long.

I will say David Tennant has been eye candy as well. I will surely miss him as the Doctor. I was under the impression they were doing a few more specials with him in it before the next installment.
What is a time lord?? Here's Wikipedia's answer:

Quote:
The Time Lords are a fictional extraterrestrial race and civilization in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, of which the series' main character, the Doctor, is a member. Time Lords are so called because they are able to travel in and manipulate time through technology to a far greater degree than any other civilization.[1] The Time Lords' home planet is Gallifrey. As of the present series Gallifrey has been destroyed and the time Lords are functionally extinct, with only two known surviving members: the Doctor and his cloned daughter Jenny; the third - the Master- having died following the end of the Time War.

...and four more specials will follow in 2009 and early 2010; the next full series (series 5) has been confirmed for airing in 2010. Tennant announced at the 2008 National Television Awards that after appearing in the four 2009–2010 Doctor Who specials, he will leave the role. On January 3, 2009, it was announced that his successor would be Matt Smith, who will make his debut in 2010.
Melissa and I have gotten into the new seasons. I just saw on BBCA that they filmed a new easter special.

I don't know when it will actually air.
I got Season 3 from the library last Saturday and have watched all 12 episodes. In 5 days. One episode I've watched more than once. I'm glad a snowstorm is predictd for tomorrow so I don't have to return them. I'm seriously debating spending the $80 so I can own.
Well, Lee watched the first disc in the first season and he liked it. I think he is going to be hooked.
I love BBC. I watch Little Britain and Catherine Tate show laughing my head off. I was watching Hex, Jekyll, but can't find it now and don't know how it ended. Love the other shows like Cash in the attic, the one where the woman comes in to clean houses and the other BBC show about the woman who shows you how to eat. I haven't seen Dr. Who, but will probably in time. Oh can't forget Gordon Ramsey.
I remember Dr Who when it started in the sixties, watching this was a must on a Saturday. We even had one of these police boxes in our road and used to watch the bobbies going in and we waited for the thing to disappear, unfortunately it never did.
How funny!
The Avengers, The Prisoner, and Dr. Who......now that was fun viewing!
The Prisoner!!!! I have the set on dvd and loved Patrick McGoohan.
OH Yeah, I remember, Mrs. Peel. The Avengers, watched the reruns... loved it. My son's new favorite dvd's, remember the Old Adam-12 and Emergency shows?
Those were the days only one max two tv channels, the came on about four thirty in the afternoon and ended at about ten thirty in the evening.

What did we do with the rest of our time, we had no conputers let alone note or net books, no mobile phones, come to think of it most of the people I knew either had no telephone or they had a party line. We have no Nintendo, Sega or W II.

No I am not lamenting about the old days but one thing is sure we had more times for our family and friends, playing cards in the evening or just chatting without being told to shut up because someone is listening to a soap.

Oh by the way anyone remember Dixon of Dock Green
