Sunday-itis

Ever since I was a kid, I get a feeling of depression, emptiness and anxiety on Sunday nights. I think its pretty clear why, Monday, work and stress are coming the next day.

I always thought this was just "my" mishagos (craziness). But last night I was watching tv, House to be exact, and after the commerical the announcer said, "Helping you with your Sundayitis"!

Hmmm...maybe I'm not the only with these feelings. Do any of you experience this?

I don't experience it, but I've heard it's a real condition. I think it even has a more real name than Sundayitis.

Well, at least it's Monday so you have almost a whole week before you have to experience Sundayitis again...
I don't sleep very well on a Sunday night.

Even though I like my job I don't want to go back in on a Monday!
The Sunday before a work Monday is always filled with anxiety and dread, can't sleep etc....
Back in my 20s, I hated Sundays so much that I started riding lessons on Sundays just to make myself feel better. Look at the obsession it's turned into. Sunday-itis is very real. My insomnia always manifests itself on Sundays. You are not alone!

Whew! :phew: Its the creepiest feeling. That vague, well, Willowsprite said it best...dread. Also emptiness. Again, I've experienced this since I was a kid. Its icky, at best. Not to mention irrational.
I think it would be harder to find people that don't feel that way about Sunday evenings than do. For me it is actually worse in the afternoon then in the evening.

But there is a couple of things that can help. Something to look forward to on Sunday evenings (like Mad Men Deb :) it is just a few more months to the new season). Even better is something to look forward to on Mondays. Harry and I just started our Advanced Rally class on Monday evenings and so I really look forward to Mondays now.

Too bad that only takes care of eight weeks out of the year. But now I know to try and plan something good for Mondays.
I never feel like that!

I work shifts, so I haven't got a clue what day of the week it is

Oh Kathy! Don't be sorry. I love Sundays too! But I dread...Sunday night...
It may be odd - but one chore I now reserve for Sundays is putting fresh (out of the dryer) linens on the bed. I take a nice bath and get between freshly laundered sheets - ahhh almost worth the fact that Monday morning is popping its head up soon
I don't dread them now, because I love my job.

HOWEVER, there was a time, in my previous life as a chemical tech in a food testing lab that I cried and cried every Sunday. All day. It was miserable. My manager expected us to be there from sun up to sun down... She was from Switzerland, and when she was mad, she would curse at us in her native language, at the top of her lungs. There were times I wanted to throw frozen food samples at her.

When she beat her fist on the desk, and said to me "When you are in this lab, I am your GOD" I knew that no money in world was worth that.

I left, and so did my Sunday- itis. I know it isn't just that simple, because it is a miserable feeling to hate Monday.
