Dog at shelter--DuPage County Illinois

Animal Control emailed me with a male, 3 year old who may be deaf. This is an owner turn in. He has been living in the basement or outside. He needs socialization. We have a non-OES volunteer going to look at him tomorrow to see if he really is deaf or just unsocialized. He did well on his temperament test.
If anyone can help with this please let me know. Jeri is out of town until Monday.

I have no experience with deaf dogs, but I can help with transport and possibly foster (if he's ok with females).
Animal control will not release him until additional evaluations are done. They will only release him to a rescue organization who will work on his socialization skills (which he has none). He may not be placeable.

Is he deaf? Is he dog aggressive or people aggressive?
We don't know yet--they are "evaluating" him.

Ugh, DuPage is so hard to deal with sometimes. I don't want to step on your toes but let me know if there's anything I can do... I don't mind making a trip down there!
Sally, let me know if he is sociable, I am looking to adopt a second OES and can travel anywhere.
I had our intake coordinator ask about this guy when she went to get another dog today, and he is still at the shelter and in danger of being euthanized.

Apparently he was an outside dog, so he is not housebroken and he really is not very well socialized. He is not aggressive at all however and he didn't technically fail any temperament testing. He is ok with other animals. He may be deaf, but they also think he might just be very aloof (selective hearing? sounds familiar...)

I am going to check him out this weekend or next week. Would anyone in Illinois, or a neighboring state, be interested in fostering? And are any other OES specific rescues interested in taking this boy in? You can pm me or contact me directly (click the PM button to contact Heather).
Can anyone tell me what happened with this dog?
I'm going to check him out this weekend, and if all goes well he should go to a foster home soon after. I will keep everyone updated.
I just received a very unfortunate update. This boy will be euthanized tomorrow as he is suspected to have Parvo or something similar.

Thank you to everyone for trying to help, such a heartbreaking ending :(
I am sorry I did not hear of this one sooner. I live not far from Dupage
County (I'm in Kane County). I could foster. Why does the dog have to be put down because of Parvo? I have had parvo virus - I'm still here.
Is it such a killer desease in dogs?
I have not been a very good sheepie watcher on this forum. I had my granddaughter as a foster child but she is back with mom now and I could become an OES foster mom. Can anyone help me find out how.?
Thank you.
awww crap.
That's so sad :(
Thanks to the good folks at Midwest OES rescue, Frosty was not euthanized. I picked him up today and took him to my vet in Chicago.

We will find out if he has parvo on Monday.... in the mean time please keep your fingers crossed for Frosty! (pictures to come)
Hooray for Frosty!!!
Way to go guys!!!! :cheer: :cheer:

I'm already attached to Frosty, so I hoping hoping hoping he is parvo-free and whatever he has is treatable and easy.
He looks like he has lots of personality!

I hope all goes well in his exam and you get him healthy. :D

:yay: Is that a tail I see???
Oh HEATHER! How fantastic! He's an adorable guy. I bet he'll find a hope quickly. What agency is he with?
Frosty is gorgeous! and you're a star for saving him! :cheer: :clappurple:
I feel like a proud mother, haha!

Stacy- He is going to Midwest OES :)
Yeah!!! A Happy ending and thanks Heather and all the other rescue angels who stepped up and helped this boy.

Although his eyes are different than Panda's, something about the expression in his eyes reminded me of him. Perhaps it's a look of hope in their eyes and the feeling they are in good hands at last.

Keep us posted!
