Dont understand people sometimes

We went to dinner last night with some friends. Before we left they were asking about Obe and mentioned they were wanting to get a puppy (non OES).

The guys wife says "I dont want a dog that sheds, chews, barks, uses the bathroom inside, high maintenance, dont want to train, yada yada yada you get the picture. He, husband then turns and says one that just lays around, as I'm not willing to take it for walks before or after work. Not getting up early and too tired after work.

So I went downstairs got one of Obe's stuffed animals (a dog) and gave it to them. They didn't seem to amused by this and neither did Obe. He walked over grabbed the stuffed dog out of their hands like you cant even take care of this dog... who doesn't shed, bark, chew, etc.

(good for you....and good for OBE....)
I hope they don't get a dog, let alone a puppy.

I had a similar situation happen. I was fostering the sweetest female basset. The couple (a pastor and his wife, in their 50's) adopted her. Imagine my surprise when our MN coordinator said Morgan was getting returned. They had her about 6 months. I couldn't imagine what the problem could be - she was virtually the perfect dog. Turns out the wife thought she shed too much and she didn't like the sound her toenails made on the floors. 8O
The husband brought her back, at one of our Petco events. I wasn't there, but they said the poor guy was practically in tears, and sat there hugging Morgan for almost an hour before he left.

I would have ditched the wife.
yep, a good dog is hard to find.............but a divorce is more expensive.

Not really, 99.9% of dogs are excellent with training and devotion. The same can not be said of humans.
Ha! Best story I've read today! :D
Shon, I hope these people not only never get a dog, but I hope they don't ever have kids (if they don't already have them). All the things the wife doesn't want in a dog can be found in a kid - and then some!!

Geesh!
Good job!

There are trying to have kids. The dog is suppose to get them ready for the responsibility.

Another set of friends is the same way, wanting to have kids. She wants a dog he says, "all a dog does is destroy things". I just look and shake my head. Yes, a dog as well as a child will destroy everything in sight without the proper guidance.

Having known both people for some years now, I can say the only reason "he" wants a child is because his brother (younger) has one. He has to have/be the BEST. She wants one because, I'm his wife and that is what he wants.

I have always said to each there own. If it affects me, then there is a problem. If not, do whatever you want. Just think it's sad...
HAHA how funny. Don't know that I would have had the nerve to do that but oh how funny.
:D Funny story,
maybe you gave them something to think about ......maybe not. :?

Of course, to each their own. But the only ones that will be hurt by these people's attitudes will be any future kids - how sad. I hate people who want kids just because someone else has them and they can't be upstaged.
A point well made :clappurple:

I've been wanting to add a stuffed dog to our petfinder listings for the people who contact me interested in a rescue yet with an arm's length list of requirements:

"I want a dog but it has to be fully trained, fully housebroken - but not too old! - will never countersurf or beg at the table and..." the list can go on and on. I'll just laugh and say: "Honey, don't we all!"

Shon

I've thought it, but I've never had the guts to do it  8)

Kristine
Chris, I agree it is sad. Over the years as I've opened my mouth to voice my opinion it has caused a lot of turmoil. Most likely why I dont get invited to go and do as much as I used to. Doesn't bother me, it did at first, but now I just ignore the comments. In one ear and out the other. Do I really need people like this in my life, question I asked myself.

It will be good when I start back to school in April, although I was criticized for it. I choose this path, and by all means they have the right to chose which ever path makes them happy.

:clappurple: Excellent responce!
They have those robotic dogs out now. Maybe they could get one of those. Wait, you probably have to replace or recharge the battery--too much maintenance.

They bark so the batteries would be taken out.

:rimshot: hah, hah, hah, I like it.
Wonderful response Shon. For some reason, everytime you talk about Obe he turns more "human" in my mind.
