I want to wear contacts

I am so sick of glasses! :x
It seems like I clean them 5 times a day and still they get dirty.
I had surgery 2 yrs ago so I can see distance.
Can't see anything close.
Can I wear them?
How do you find out?
I have good glasses with graded vision and they get very
dark when I go out.

Perhaps you should ask your eye doctor :D
I have no clue. After 2 years it seems your eyes have healed and might be able to accept contacts. They might be able to fit one lens giving you close up vision and keep the other eye for distance.

Obviously the person to talk to is your eye doctor.
I have been wearing glasses since I was about 6 years old. When I was younger I wanted contacts sooo bad... but couldn't get them because of the type of eye issue I have.

Now they make them for my problem and it was just a matter of going to the eye doctor and getting a new eye exam then they "fit" you for the contacts. Make sure you tell them up front you want contacts if you are able to wear them... (it made a difference in the eye exam according to my eye doc)

I have to admit that even though I have contacts and wore them A LOT when I first got them... Its easier for me to just grab my glasses when I have to go to work. I usually jsut wear the contacts for special occasions now.
For years I had bifocal gas perm contacts (hard contacts) which I loved but had to stop wearing due to eye allergies. I now have soft contacts (new pair every 2 weeks) which are very comfortable, but I still have to wear reading glasses. I couldn't do the "one eye distance, other eye close" thing.
I just started wearing (a) contact. It was recommended that I get Oasys Hyrdoclear by Accuvue (sp?). They are bi-weekly ones.

I never wore glasses full time until a couple of months ago and since I have astigmatism's even with the glasses I wasn't seeing correctly. If I looked anywhere besides straight ahead it seemed distorted. My vision in my left eye is 20/60 without a corrective lens and my right eye is 20/20 that does noeed a slight correction, but they only make them in hard lenses and my Dr didn't recommend it for me, since I can see 20/20 with the one lens.

The contact has been amazing and no more dizziness and I have a full field of vision, that I didn't have with glasses. No glasses to clean, just an eye drop here and there. I have had it for about 2 weeks now, still getting used to putting it in and taking it out. It gets easier the more you do it.

Also I didn't think I could get used to a contact. I had colored lenses about 15 years ago and I have to say Contacts have come so far.
I hardly notice it at all. I am very happy that I did this.

When you call your Dr you need to request a exam for Contacts. It is different than the exam for glasses.
I wore glasses for most of my adult life and because I'm farsighted and have astigmatism, my eye doc told me I "wouldn't be happy" with contacts. After several years of this, I finally went to a new doctor and walked out with contacts. I have monovision lenses (one eye is corrected for distance and one for reading), extended wear disposables (which means I wear them for a month, then throw them away). I don't even have to clean them. I don't sleep in them, although they're made for that, because I had a bad experience with doing that. I don't even own a pair of prescription glasses any more, other than drugstore reading glasses that I use just to put the lenses in in the morning. I'm blind as a bat but absolutely despise wearing glasses.

I've been wearing contacts now for about 17 years, and every year it seems there is a new innovation and lenses to fit just about any vision problem. Ask your eye doctor, and if you don't like the answer, see another one. I do always make sure to have an exam by an MD (opthomologist vs. optomotrist). Also, because I have two different corrections, I have found that good lens fitter is crucial to make sure they work well together.

Be aware that you DON'T have to buy your lenses from your doctor. You can shop around and get them at Wal-Mart or online usually for a lot less money. Just ask the doc for the script, and be sure you get the exact same brand as prescribed.
Ugh I hated glasses too. I switched to contacts when I was 18 and although they were more comfortable and less irritating than glasses, they were still a pain in the butt. You have my sympathy!
When I had my laser surgery several years ago- the doctor did one eye a bit far sided. Through the natural aging process, I have been able to avoid "readers". I was a bit concerned at first, but the eyes quickly adjust. I'm glad I have avoided going back to glasses / contacts for this long! :)
