Patriots Vs. Eagles

This is a story that was related to me. Who am I to say if it's true or not?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
John Madden was in Denver to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special phone near the Bronco's bench. He asked Coach Shanahan what it was for and was told it was a hot line to GOD. John asked the coach if he could use it and the coach said: "Sure, but it will cost you $100."

Madden scratched his head and then said: "What the heck, I need some help picking the games." He pulled out his wallet and paid the $100. Madden was perfect that week.

The next weekend Madden was in Minnesota when he noticed the same kind of phone near the Viking bench. He asked Coach Tice, what the phone was for and Tice said: "It's a hot line to GOD and if you want to use it, it will cost you $100."

Recalling the previous week, Madden pulled out his wallet and paid the $100. Once again Madden was perfect.

The next weekend Madden was in Foxboro at Gillette Stadium when he noticed the same phone near the Patriot's bench. He asked Coach Belichick if it was a hot line to GOD. Bill said, "Yes it is; do you want to use it? It will cost you 35 cents."

Madden looked at Coach Belichick and said, "Wait a minute! I just paid $100 in Denver and $100 in Minnesota to use the same phone! Why in Foxboro do they only charge 35 cents?"

Belichick looked at Madden and replied very matter-of-factly, "In Foxboro it's a local call."

GO PATRIOTS!! Whooooo!

There aren't many of us Patriot fans in Texas but we're still proud. Can honestly say our son is the only student at Lakewood Elementary in Tomball, TX with a Pat's jersey.....

He's obviously a very intelligent kid!

Great post Ron! Go Patriots!

Kristen
Hey, watch it! These are Pennsylvanian, died-in-the-wool, 24-years-since-our-last-Super-Bowl-appearance, die-hard Eagles fan toes you're stepping on!

Come on, fellow PA posters!! Let's hear it for the Eagles!

Fly, Eagles, fly, on the road to victory.
Fight, Eagles, fight, score a touchdown one-two-three.
Hit 'em low, hit 'em high, and watch our Eagles fly!
Fly, Eagles, fly, on the road to victory.

E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!!!

I'm sure you'll be hearing the above anthem and chant many, many times on Sunday!

Chris
What perhaps you failed to realize is that from Jacksonville, site of the SuperBowl, it's the same distance to God for both teams.

Good luck to your team! I hope nobody is (seriously) injured during The Game.

I will be here to console any Eagles fans following The Game.

-Ron.
PS Seriously though, there is one particular Yankees fan who is a member of this board, to whom I sent a very similar message. To her great credit, she emailed me to congratulate me on the Red Sox' victory. While I would be thrilled to have the Patriots repeat as Champions, and I might be disappointed should they be un Championized (good speak is in use this week) I'd be very happy for the fans of Philadelphia should the unimaginable occur.

PPS That Yankees fan is a regular viewer/poster here. If she wants to make herself known, that's ok by me. I owe her a "Thanks" for the congratulatory note!
Let's go Steelers!!!!

Oh wait, let's go Eagles!!!!!

It's okay as long as it's PA.
Let's go Eagles!!!

An article about the Eagle's Fight Song:

Listen to the Eagles fight song:

Listen to one man's fight song for the New England Patriots:

Listen to Ron's fight song:

Out of the two, Patriots. Both teams are not on the fav. list.

Here's to the commercials and doesn't a new episode of Survivor or something come on afterwards? At least in the past... there was.
Go Vikings!!! Oh... wait... the Vikings aren't in the superbowl. Stupid Vikings! Go Redsox!!! Oh wait, wrong sport... go Beer Companies- oh wait I don't drink beer.

Ok- I know, I know:

GO PATRIOTIC EAGLES HOORAY!

Karen :)
Hey Ron, thanks for the link for the fight song! Too cool!

As much as I'm trying to stay neutral and say all the right things to the Patriots fans, my heart is bursting and I just can't let this go - GO EAGLES!!! We had a SB party in 1981 for our last appearance, and we'll have another one this Sunday. Will have two TV's tuned in to the game. My son says that all the die-hard fans can watch together in one room, and all the people who want more to socialize can watch in the other room!

Here's an e-mail that's making the rounds in PA:
______________________________________________
Four football fans go rock climbing one afternoon, a Steelers fan, a Falcons fan, an Eagles fan, and a Patriots fan.

They had been arguing all the way up the mountain about who among them was the most "die-hard" fan.

Upon reaching the top of the mountain, the Steelers fan proclaimed to the other four, "This is for the Pittsburgh Steelers!" and promptly threw himself off the mountain as a form of sacrifice.

Not to be outdone by a Steelers fan, the Falcons fan jumped up and said, "This is for the Atlanta Falcons!" and then threw himself off the mountain again as a form of sacrifice.

Refusing to be outdone by the Steelers and Falcons fans, the Eagles fan rose to his feet and yelled at the top of his lungs, "This is for the Philadelphia Eagles!" and without hesitation, pushed the Patriots fan off the mountain.

LETS GO BIRDS!!!! E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!

Chris
Well since the Patriots took care of my beloved Steelers last week my revenge side would like them to lose. My Pennsylvania side wants to root for the Eagles too. But, I think the Patriots are going to win.

Hoping that Paul McCartney won't have a wardrobe malfunction!!

Best of Luck to both teams!!
I hate to prod -- but did anyone notice my fight song?
Haha! I did, very.....romantic! I'm sure Joan loves when you sing it to her! I was listening to it at the office and the guy in the next cube started singing along! (But his wife isn't named Joan...)

Speaking of fight songs....

Our kids love when we sing the Rhode Island fight song (we're both grads) you know the words, don't you? 'We're Rhode Island born and we're Rhode Island bred and when we die we'll be Rhode Island dead....'

Now THAT'S a fight song!

That's hysterical!
Here's another joke :)

Football Heaven

John Elway, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven God
was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a
faded Broncos flag in the window. "This house is yours for
eternity,John," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets a
house up here." John felt special, indeed, and walked up to his
house. On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around
the corner. It was a 3-story mansion with a Green and Silver
sidewalk, a 50-foot tall flagpole with an enormous Philadelphia
Eagles logo flag, and in every window hung a jersey with the # 81 on
it. John looked at God and said, "God, I'm not trying to be
ungrateful, but I have a question. I was an All-Pro Quarterback. I
won two SuperBowls, and I even went to the Hall of Fame." God
said, "So what's your point John?" "Well, why does
Terrell Owens get a better house than me?" God chuckled, and
said "John, that's not T.O.'s house, it's mine."

E-A-G-L-E-S....EAGLES!!!!!!!!
I detest football, but I voted the beer companies. LOL
If I had to choose a team I would choose the Patriots.
I have never seen a football game. CJ did watch a superbowl once, I am not sure the year but I know the Greenbay Packers played...that is all I know. :)
I did watch hockey occasionally.
I lived in PA when I was a teenager, so I guess......GO EAGLES....LOL
I will have to ask Ashlan, as she will vote on what color uniforms she likes the best...LOL

Stormi and co.
Gail,
That is SO hysterical!! I LOVE it! It will definitely have to make the e-mail rounds!

Ron,
Okay, I'm going to date myself here, but let's see if I'm right. I was a wee bit of a lass when TV was young, but isn't your "fight song" the theme song from "I Married Joan"? I don't remember the show, just the name of the show.

Chris
Sorry Ron but Eagles all the way!! You got your Sox win, so now it's time for underdog Philly to finally go all the way. And what's with not that many Patriots fans going to Jackonsville?? I've been hearing on the news that Eagles fans are outnumbering them 4 to 1!

GO E-A-G-L-E-S!!!! It's finally our turn!!!

I'm making a secret drink recipe for the Superbowl party tonight - it's called "Jacksonville Juice" and it's green. It's 3 parts vodka, 1/4 part Apple Pucker, splash of Blue Curaco and a splash of sour mix. Specially made to help pound the Patriots. 8)
Well, I see your Avatar changed Verveup! LOL

I think the news media in PA is pretending there are more Philly fans in Jacksonville - our Patriots will have plenty of representation!

Good Luck to the Eagles! Hopefully it's a good game!

As a NE Fan - I'm too superstitious to say I think we'll win!

I love the drink recipe - maybe I could change it alittle and make it more BLUE!!!

Kristen
Your funny Kristen! Actually I had to change the drink recipe - way too much vodka. It is more like: 2 parts Sour Apple Pucker - 1 part Vodka - 1/16 Blue Curaco & 1/16 sour mix.

So in order to jinx the Patriots I'm gonna say add way more Blue Curaco... and then you're drink will be way too sweet...
For me it doesn't matter who wins because either way I win. My son and I have a bet going on. If the Patriots win he has to do ALL the dishes. And there is a lot of them. If the Eagles win like he wants I get to clean his room. He doesn't get it. I would LOVE to clean his room :D . I have already bought a box of garbage bags just in case. lol
cher
That is too funny Cher!!! You win either way.... :)
I don't really care, but I always like to see the underdog win!

Go Eagles!
Ouch this really hurts... doesn't hurt as bad as the presidential election though...

Patriots looked really good and deserved to win. Hopefully I won't see any grown Philly men crying on the news tonight.

Since the Patriots won Ron, I will now shave down my dog... oh yeah, I did that already!! 8O
WOOHOO!!! I hate the Eagles (due to an old coworker), so I'm glad to see the Patriots win out of the two. Sorry for those who got disappointed or lost money!!! OUCH!

VerveUp, your other avatar super rocked!!! this one is funny but the other one was too cute!!!
Big hugs of sympathy to our members who are/were Eagles fans.

My advice, after watching the last 6 minutes of the game is "Fire your head coach."

I was sitting there, after the pats went up by 10 instead of 14, thinking, ohh boy, here they come with the 2 minute drill; with our deep coverage gone this could be trouble.

Your team didn't go into the hurry-up offense? I was yelling to my dad, "What are they doing? Why aren't they hurrying?" After anoth minute, the annoucers started in on it. At one point the announce even said: "I bet there are lots of Eagles fans screaming at their sets right now [to tell the team to hurry up]."

Even at the 2:00 warning, there were 2 minutes and 10 seconds after the play. A team in hurry-up mode would have tried to get to the line and spike the ball to try to get in a play befoer the 2:00 warning.

I just don't get it. It looked like the team had capitulated, and the coach wasn't trying. My dad actually asked me if I thought there had been some sort of payoff. (I said: "Of course not.")

When they got the ball back with :45 seconds, down by only 3 pts, it took the Eagles nearly than half to get off one play.

You deserved a better end-game effort than that. In Boston, we fired the manager (Grady Little) after leaving in Pedro Martinez during one post-season game when Pedro was obviously gassed. Grady had a remarkable year, but that level of poor judgement, just once, cost him his job. We're tough fans (but then again the RedSox won it all the next year...).

Fire your coach. He deserves to be ousted after that performance, no matter how good he is.

It was a pretty good game -- at times the Eagles looked just like the Patriots in their play -- especially that thread-the-needle pass from McNabb for a TD. Brilliant!

I'm sorry for you all. As a RedSox fan, I feel your pain, and you guys were right -- this one wasn't nearly as special as the last year, nor as special as the Sox' Championship.

I actually wish you had won.... sort of.
Yes, we are hurting this morning, and for all the reasons you listed, Ron. I though my son was going to have a heart attack, he was yelling so badly at the TV. Andy Reid did us wrong, big time. EVERYONE is saying it. That was such poor clock management that one can only wonder if there was indeed a pay-off involved to someone somewhere.

We did deserve better. But hey! What about TO!!!!! What a game he played, all things considered. We all just sat there in awe of him.

Congratulations on the Pats' win. After he settled down, my son said, "We were good this year, but we're just not quite at that Pats level yet. But we will be." We'll be back. So - same time next year???

Chris
The Eagles played a damn good game - it was a nail biter to the very end! Much closer than anyone imagined I'm sure! The Patriots never make it an easy win do they! 8O I almost took some Rescue Remedy!

It could have easily gone either way - and I say Congrats to the Eagles! T.O. had a fantastic game and the Defense did an amazing job! The Eagles got to the Superbowl - that has to say something about their Coaching staff!

Two great teams - but only one can win! I'm just glad it was my team!

Kristen
I would like to say good game to all- I didn't watch the last quarter... However, not being a die hard fan- I have to say my favorite part was the half time show- probably because I adore Paul McCartney (This is what happens when you listen to Beatles music in the womb, I guess!)

Also did anyone have a favortie superbowl commercial? My personal favortie was the Annheiser-Bush commercial, which featured the troops coming home from Iraq. For those who don't know- my hubby is an MP in the National Guard and was deployed overseas in 2002-2003. I burst into tears watching it- what a lovely tribute!

Karen :)

(Oh yeah- I also like the frozen guy in the Ford Mustang for funniness)
Karen,

I missed that Budwieser commercial - but other people are saying that was their favorite. I loved all of the Bud commercials - and the frozen mustang guy too!

Missed halftime - I was in between my sister's and my house - trying to get home before the 2nd half began.

Kristen
Commercials can be found here.

http://www.budweiser.com/commercials_05/index.html

I cried with the military one!!!! Soldiers coming home from Iraq. (sigh)
Ah yes, American Football. Or rugby with padding as some of us call it. LOL.

Go Saints!
OMG

I don't know how to say this, I can barely believe it's true myself.
I had no idea. None.
I have a connection to the Eagles!

I just found out yesterday. I've been too stunned to tell anyone but Joan.
She was stunned and squealed "You're Kidding!?!?!"

I don't know how to tell you!

I don't know what I CAN tell you!

I don't know what it means!

I KNOW the president of the Eagles, Joe Banner!
Us Pennsylvanians would like a hook-up. OR you can come to a game and get free lodging. Verve Up will put you up. She's closer to Philly but I still want to go to the game and sit in the box!!!!!
Chris that is a great joke :D I dont know much about major league football....I like college better :? But if I HAD to choose I guess it would be the Eagles, only because my college boyfriend made me memorize all the key players for the Steelers...close enough.....same state.....I say
"BEAR DOWN ARIZONA!!
BEAR DOWN RED AND BLUE..
BEAR DOWN ARIZONA...
KICK THE S@#T OUT OF ASU :D
