My dog attacks the Broom

So, Bentley wants to attack the broom whenever it comes out. He barks and grolls and tries to get it!

Does anyone else have a sheepie who does this?

Boy do I ever!!! And not just the broom, the mop has to be attacked and so does the vacuum cleaner. My dalmo is frightened of the vac and keeps away but Tiggy lunges at it, pounces on it and barks at it (the bit at the end not the actual machine). I have to lock her in the house to sweep outside and then she lunges at the floor to ceiling windows whenever I come near, so now I shut the curtains because she's so determined in her lunging I'm scared that she'll come through the glass. And the same for when I'm cleaning inside only she goes out. She is a nutter, when it comes to anthing that cleans horizontal surfaces now that I think about it. She kills all the wash clothes too. Maybe she just likes dirt. :?
We just took videos of Kismet madly attacking the Killer Mop yesterday, she rarely barks but as soon as she sees the mop or broom, you cant shut her up.I have a theory,I think it offends sheepdogs to see women being forced to do housework,I think we should all stop for the dogs sake.
YEP same here! the mop, the swifter and vacume I sometimes chase her around the house playing with them. LOL :D :D
I used to have a broom boy!
A day or so after we got Chewie, I was sweeping the kitchen floor. He just went crazy, attacking the broom. I was kind of shocked, as he was always such a well behaved puppy.

I brought it up in conversation with his breeder (  ). She admitted that they had played the broom game when doing chores. All the puppies were players, but Chewie and another (Sybil??LOL) were the most energetic in their broom playing.

He did outgrow it. :D
When Summer was a pup she used to attack any broom. I swept the kitchen and used to spray behavior spray on the broom! So she left it well alone! Hubby swept the garden with a different broom and he didnt know about the behaviour spray. He used to think she just did as I told her!
Crumpet was an A-1 broom/mop/vacuum attacker. Difficult to clean with her around. It was fun. She stopped the silliness when she turned 10. I finally had a broom without bent bristles.
Violet and China both used to do the same thing to the broom....barking and attacking. I did laugh and made a game out of it. Neither has done it in years. I had forgotten all about the game until this thread. The only thing Violet does now is lays in my pile of dirt that I swept up before I take it off the floor.
I feel like I have missed out. Baloo is 100% UNINTERESTED in the broom or the mop or the swiffer. He will actually sit in one spot and refuse to move no matter if I sweep all around him, up against him, even touch him with the broom or swat his bottom trying to get him to get up so I can sweep/mop in that spot... He looks at me with a "Do you really think that is going to bother me?" look about him...

Shoveling snow on the other hand... completely different story!! He loves to jump at the snow you throw off the shovel to the side... like it's a great toy, those shovels.
I've had one dog that did this with the broom. We attributed it to the fact that sometimes the dogs in the kennel she came from saw a broom in action. She never really attacked it but she'd carry on like the dickens whenever we used any kind of broom. I liked to have died once when I first started showing her in conformation. We were in the open bitch class & one of the dogs had an accident in the ring. The ring steward called for the clean-up crew. After what seemed like an eternity, the judge said he'd take care of it & proceeded to sprinkle some sawdust on the wet spot & out he came with the push broom! You just can't imagine how hard I tried to keep my girl's attention on me so she'd not see that broom & go balistic! None of my others have ever had an issue with a broom & used to look at her like she was crazy for expending all that energy on such a stupid object.
Oh Ballo, can MO come play snow shovel catch? She adores it but we may go snowless for a year or two. She's missing her fun!

On the other hand, she also loves catching the gunk we get out of the gutters and throw to the ground......blech :? .......

Or the dirt we sweep off the front porch. Mind you not the broom, but the dirt that comes flying off.......unless you've lived in a windy dry climate you don't understand sand dunes on the porch.
Patch goes to another room in the house to bark at the vacuum - if I am in the den, she goes back to a bedroom and barks at it. And if she is outside when I am vacuuming the sunroom she barks at it from the yard. I've never bumped her with the vacuum nor made it a big deal, but she has decided it is the enemy.

One funny thing Patch does is bark at inanimate objects; if she backs into something like a table, she will wag her bum and bark at it. the other night her hair got tangled for a split second with the eucalyptus plant so she backed up in the middle of the room and barked at it. she is so funny.

Yeah, Sybil outgrew it too. Funny. I had forgotten about that :D I never should have let them play that game but it was so darn funny. Sybil would steal the broom and then she and Chew would play tug-of-war with it.

My current foster attacked the vaccuum cleaner with a vengance when I first got her, but she's gradually outgrowing that. Enjoy the antics while you can

Kristine
Yep, it "happened" here too. Not for a while though. The one thing that still goes is the mower during summer. Simon attacks the wheels when I try to start it. Makes me laugh every time.
i could not vacumn for 11yrs with my girl daytona
No vacuuming for 11 years, sounds like heaven. :) But how did you keep the dust bunnies at bay?
