Eye infection?

Ru has a slightly greenish discharge from 1 eye. We noticed it last night. Is this an eye infection? We can't get to the vet today or tomorrow, is there anything we can do in the meantime? Should we use a saltwater rinse?

Thanks

I would be very careful of what you put in eyes. SALT!! not me. I would think it would burn. I would use a saline sulition to wash. I am no vet but if you would not put it in your own eye don't put in your pet. Just me.
It could be an infection but my Dalmo gets eye discharges due to allergies and they are of varying colour. I would boil some water so that its sterile. Let it cool to tepid and add some salt. Not too much or it will sting and then use some cotton balls to swab the eye.
If it doesnt settle over 24 hours then see your vet as soon as you are able.
Conjunctivitis more than likely.

Archie gets it occasionally.

Get to the Vet they should put a stain in his eyes to make sure there is no damage to eyes, as some treatments can react with Ulcers (I think, don't quote me on that) then it's just a few days of putting drops in his eyes to clear it up.

Saline solution is a dilute salt solution, I use a weak salt/saline solution for my eyes when my allergies are bad and as a nasal rinse when my sinuses are bad due to allergies. You do have to make sure its a weak solution. A pharmacist sells it but its expensive and much cheaper to make yourself as long as you boil the water first and make it weak.
I agree with Archieslave. Get to the vet. I went thru this Decmeber with my old boy. It was conjuntivitis. Vet gave me an antibiotic & a salve to put in his eye. Cleared in up in no time. If you can't get in today, just gently clean the eye area with a warm, wet towel.
I wouldn't try anything without a vet's advice. Portage has had some infections over his lifetime, and our vet has suggested Polysporin drops. They are available from the pharmacist without a prescription. We wouldn't have tried them without being advised to do so.

Now we'll try them first, and if it doesn't look better almost immediately we go right to the vet. I hate taking chances with eyes. They're way too delicate.

The posters who have suggested cleaning with a warm, clean washcloth have given excellent advice. I'd start there and call the vet.
Hi, You probably have solved the eye problem by now, but whenever any one in my family has a problem with eyes I swear by the treatment of a plain teabag soaked in water that has been boiled. Gently wipe away the muck and then let small amounts of the weak solution dribble over the eye. It never fails till you can get to the vet. My family has treated eye problems with this for over seventy years and I still use it on my cats, dogs, and even my kids. (though the vet doesn't see my kids that often!)
