Recommended food?

What's a good food for an OES puppy?

We bought Jasper Iams large breed puppy food, but I've been big fan of Eukanuba and Hills Science Diet in the past. I just don't want to put him on a "bad" food now and have it give him problems when he's older. Can you guys recommend a good puppy food for him? Thanks!

Whatever he does best on is the best food to buy. What was his breeder feeding him? Many breeders I know do use Eukanuba and feel it is best for oes puppies. I had mine on Iams for a long time, but recently switched to Pro Plan puppy.
There are many good dog foods available. As a matter of fact,
we were overwhelmed by the number of choices!
We have our sheepie on Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy
food. He has really done well with it, and his coat is just beautiful.
We are almost ready to transition to Large Breed Adult formula
made by this company. It is readily available at Petco, and
other pet stores.

His breeder had him on Iams, but we found it did not agree with
him.

Congratulations on your new puppy !!!
We tried Iam's and Purina One both for large breed and neither set very well with Jack and Annabelle. We then did Nutro Lamb and Rice for LB and it did great except for the excessive gas. Willowsprite suggested a switch to the Nutro Chicken and Rice LB and the gas is gone and they are still digesting the food well with no diarrhea. They have been on Nutro for almost 8 months and have done well.

Good luck with Jasper, he is very cute! :D
Stormi and co.
What about the food Wellness made in Lowell, MA? This is suppossed to be all natural, human grade food and one of the best out there. Does anyone know anything about it?
Thanks everyone. The breeder had him on Diamond puppy food, which I can't find here. He seems to be doing really well on the Iams large breed puppy food, no upset tummy so far (fingers crossed).
Gail-
If puppy is doing well on IAMs LB, keep him on it !!!

To Guest-

The Wellness food is made by the Old Mother Hubbard Co (Lowell,MA)
They are on the net if you do a search.
My foggy recollection of this food is that it was a little pricey,
had lots of ingredients, including herbs. Our pup had a sensitive
stomach so I was reluctant to try it.
I would be interested to hear if anyone tried it for their pup,
and if they like it.
Wellness is a top notch food, and yes, very expensive, I paid 65 dollars for a 20 lb bag. My dogs absolutely love it, it is all natural, not extruded (not superheated which removes nutritive value) and baked. It smells fishy and seems oily to me, and it is a very rich food. I'm not sure it is the best as a staple diet for oes since many do have sensitive tummies. My girls don't seem to have a sensitive digestive system, but I still only used it as a treat for training. I sometimes added half a cup of it to their regular kibble, to entice Dancer to eat more.

whaaaattt???? 8O (My avatar just passed out from sticker shock)

That's really expensive food!!! I guess it's really good and thet it keeps your dogs in top condition. 8)

JakobandBrandonsmom, whatever your puppy is on, if it has enough protein values and the stools are hard will be OK. We had Lennon on Eukanuba until he got sick and said "Yuck, don't want this any more!!!", we switched to nutro but he was gassy, Hills Science Diet did no good and we moved on to Purina One/Pro Plan... They love that stuff and the stools are very firm and small. We're not switching!!!
My girls are doing awesome on Pro Plan too, I love the stuff.
Does anyone feed their puppies/dogs Canidae? After doing quite a bit of research I decided I really liked this brand. Anyone have personal experience with trying it out? It is kinda pricey (not $65/bag though, thank goodness!) but around $35/bag for 40 lbs.
