Colitis

Is there a dog food I can buy for colitis?

if your dog has been diagnosed with colitis, it is best to get a vets opinion as to the food he/she requires. From personal experience colitis is very painful in humans and probably is in dogs as well....good luck
You need a very, very bland food until the inflammation is over. I'm surprise the vet hasn't worked with you on this. You might try brown rice to start. After a day or two you can add a cooked meat such as turkey or beef. Keep the portions small.......little feedings more often.

My own girl is on a duck and sweet potato type food.

I've known dogs who have had success going on a raw foods diet. There are many chat groups around devoted to feeding your dog raw foods instead of prepared commercial dog food. Check back if you think it might be an option. Your vet will probably disapprove, they always do. But many many dogs actually overcome bowel problems by the switch.
The vet could not find anything wrong by tests. He just said maybe it was a virus or something she picked up to eat.
I just thought maybe I could figure something out from OES as to why some days the stools are firm and then somedays like pancake batter(I don't mean to gross you out,but I just read that from someone and that is a great description),I feed her Blue Bluffalo chicken and brown rice. But then I just read that maybe chew rawhide might be a culpit.

rawhide - especially flavored ones could cause a bowel change. also some dogs are allergic to chicken and that could also be causing it.
I feed my dogs Buffalo Blue Lite and they do great. I have found that there are times when I have given Lulu a rawhide that she will have very lose stools for the next couple of days. After several trips to the vet and $100 each trip, I think I finally figured it out that it was the rawhides that were upsetting her.

Summer was really ill last Easter with stomach problems. I now feed her on Arden Grange dry dog food. She cant take bonios, shapes, milk, she gets bits of veg and our food but only if it is really good stuff or pasta. She picked up something yesterday whilst out for a walk and has been sick today! Little madam..
over exercise as well as over feeding can cause this impossible to pickup puddlepoo in my boy.
I'd bet it's the rawhides. Portage explodes if he so much as bites on one once. Take those away and do only food for a few weeks and see. I'd bet that's the culprit.
My dog was diagnosed with colitis at 7 weeks old. He was put on pro-plan and has done very well on it. Jake was also put on Sulfa and Lomotil. He's 3 1/2 now and still on pro-plan. If we go somewhere new for the first or second time he sometimes has diarrhea. I've noticed lately he's getting much better. Hopefully he's finally outgrowing the problem.
