Sit on It

Does anyone's OES have a habit of, um, sitting on you?

I think I'm going to start to call Linus The Fonz (you know, "Sit on it") because of his new trick. He'll be completely calm or ignoring me and if I'm sitting or lying on the floor, he'll walk up and back his rump onto me. Sometimes it's a slow plop, other times he practically falls on me.

He sat on my face the other day. I had to push him off. That wasn't pleasant.

When he does it, he seems to smirk like he knows he's being silly.

Is he alone? Please tell me no.

Henry does this all the time!?!  one day his 's gonna beep like a bus reversing
Luna is big on sitting on you!

Her favorite thing to do is to sit on you when you sleeping in the morning. More often than not, I get woken up by a big sheepy butt crashing on my head in the morning!

I think she thinks she is light as a feather.

But you're definately not alone
PJ does it all the time. Usually when I am laying on the couch he will back his butt up against it.
It's part dominance, part play. Paige was notorious for doing this during doggie play with Sam. They romp about but as soon as he went down she was on to of him. Woe be if he ever tried to sit on her! She'd come up snarling and snapping. The sit says, "I'm dominante over you." Not want you want. Still if you respond in some dominate manner but still playful there will be no hard feelings. Maybe you could use this action and roll the sheepie onto the floor on their back for tummy rubs.
Bree does this all the time... she seems so cute and lovable about it, but I do think it's a dominance thing with her...
Hudson does it all the time. Since he's still got crazypuppyhead he'll often be tearing around the house, spring toward me, do a mid air turn and land right on top.

He especially likes to sit on me when I'm in bed so he can have a good view of the window.

I'm sure it's part dominance with him, too. I also think he sometimes views all of us as just being part of the furniture in HIS home.

We're working on it.

Both Portage and Theeps have/had a habit of coming up and going in sideways, landing on you, in a catch me sort of way.

Theeps had bad knees. He's come face first, lay his head down in your lap, bum in the air, and then do a little back legged leap where you had to catch his bum and put him gently down. The trust he's show was huge. No one EVER missed that cue and let him fall. I really miss that dog.

I don't know if it's always so much dominance as if they are ON you, you can't escape...

My lazy "obedience" dogs will put a paw on my foot and then gawk at the world because if they do that they don't have to be paying attention. :P   Even when not working, snoozing with some part of their body on mine so I can't "escape" seems to be a perpetual thing.

Backing the butt into your lap can be handy for butt rubs. During down times at class both Belle and now Mace and Che are notorious if I'm on the floor for flinging their bodies onto mine and rolling onto their backs ON TOP OF ME (thanks - yeah, that whole think they're light as a feather thing seems to be almost universal) for tummy rubs. Let's face it. They're just ODD dogs.

OMGoodess... YES... I'm not alone :phew:
If I sit on the floor, Panda will just about immediately come over to sit on my lap.
It sounds like a dominance thing but I swear she thinks it's funny.
I had brushed Kaytee out late last night and thought I'd get a picture of her...

You are not alone....and they do think it's funny.

I thought Isaac was the only one that did that!!! None of my other dogs did that in obedience.

Hm. Yes, and then you have the ones who literally hug your body while heeling, but not in a heads-up attention kind of way. One of my obed instructors calls that heeling by Braille

The critters are pretty smart when it comes to these things. 8)

Tiggy too!! She takes flying leaps onto us. We really need the beeping warning sound. Wayne spilt his coffee all in his laptop a couple of weeks ago as he didnt see her coming and she doesnt need a run up. She sure jumps as if she's light as a feather.

Even on walks she walks along where she can feel me and if I go to correct her for getting too far ahead she beats me too it and the little sneak runs around me to get behind. Obedience she sits on one hip leaning against me and checking out everyone else, thinks she's the supervisor.
Geez people don't you know although OES might be heavy and big they still consider themselves small lap dogs :P . What is the saying :lmt: Ah "Size does not matter" OK with OES they think they are tiny weanie doggies and it is their duty to sit on laps.   Flying leap and land where ever and manouver that big butt & fat head to whatever is crushing and uncomfortable on any seated human in leaping distance

Syd is killing me, "crush a matic" and still thinks he is a 16oz bubba.
Syd, was the tiny, weeny baby of the litter and thinks that under all that hair he is still tiny and weeny. Hah anyone he sits on knows better.
Tiggy doesnt have the tiny, weeny excuse.
Oh yes, Chewie always does it. It usually is paired with the head thrown back and looking up at the person with a "Pet me!, I know you love me" look. I alway thought it was a breed thing, as Ollie did this as well, but not to the extreme that Chewie does.

He does this at Therapy Dog visits too - and people seem to get a kick out of it when I explain he only does it to those that he likes. :D
Here he is, sitting on on the the staff at an assisted living :D
Image

When he is feeling full of himself and squirrely, he does it when heeling and sitting. One rally trial he scooted foward and backed up and sat on my feet each time he sat on the 1 step, 2 steps, 3 steps forward. It was also accompanied be the head turned up, smiling face with each one. It didn't give me the best score, but the people watching loved it.
Jake does it too. Usually he tries to sit on his favorite people's laps. I think he does it to get attention and get his butt rubbed!
We've never seen a dog do this before but Charlie does it all the time! It's hilarious!! When he and Libby are playing, he'll sit on her face, her belly, her butt, whatever is handy. I think it's amazing how different the breeds are and how unique sheepies are!! LOVE THEM!!!!!!
Ha! I love the picture of Chewie! That's exactly what Linus does. I think sometimes it's a way to have quality time with me, when he just wants to be loved. I know he has no idea that he's large enough to have a saddle.

Then there's the other 75 percent of the time, when he's being a sassy boy. He's expanded his plopping repertoire when we're playing to include slurpy kisses on my ears, so I'm dealing with both large bottom and big cold nose at once.
Yeah, Chauncey is our lap puppy, snuggle bunny. He loves to snuggle and curl up with us.
He is always welcome to do so :hearts: :hearts:
Nothing like a 100 lb. snuggle-beast.

I hear you! Tiggy does that too. Trying to fight off a big, slurpy tongue whilst being sat on by a big, hairy butt is a regular thing here!!
I'm never sure whether to laugh or cry when she bounds up on the couch and tries it on visitors. 8O
She knows its bad manners but cant resist a lurv-in with a new person.
Aw, I'm jealous! No, Fitz doesn't sit on me and he's really not much of a cuddler, though I force him to be ... I think he just patiently tolerates my cuddling though, he rolls his eyes and sighs in exasperation. Really, he just can't stay still long enough for a real cuddle, he just wants to play, play, play! On those occasions when Fitz is feeling affectionate (at least I think it's affection) he likes to walk between my legs, he's very determined about it too, and I mean very - which is actually kind of funny .... and kind of weird. :D
Dont be too jealous. Tiggy doesnt sit still for cuddles for long, she needs to be busy all the time too. She jumps and hops and stomps all over us, while licking ears and faces. 8O I've always got bruises.
OMG!!! I am not the only one!!! Holly does this all the time to me!! I will be on my bed minding my own busieness , reading a book and PLOP .... Holly comes and sits on me. My daughter who is 12 thinks it is hilarious and the 1st few times it was but now it is getting old. I still LOVE her but she needs to stop this and stretching her whole body in front of me and taking her giant head and rubbing it all over my face! Why do they do this? It is like she can not get too close to me!!

Well atleast I'm not the only one who has a wiggle butt that has this kinda weird fetish!!
How about stretching right across you. Sometimes when I am lying on the couch Laika will climb up and stretch across me head to head. Her head resting on my chest staring at me. Actually nice in the winter. Who needs a blanket!
Last night DH and I were out sharing a one person hammock, yep Tiggy looked at us and climbed on in, she walked all over us, kinda checking out the terrain then plopped her butt right on Wayne's chest. She looked real happy with herself  No, not quite right, I'm not sure how but she managed to stretch out along both of us. :? 8O Its really hot here at the moment so luckily she didnt stay too long as it got too hot and she bailed.
Last night I was relaxing on the love seat and Charlie decided to come sit by me. Wait...not BY me...ON me! He climbed up, turned around, put his big butt right on my shoulder and sat there watching TV! Kinda like a weird-looking parrot!!

WEIRD DOG!!!!!!!!
