Potty training...its been awhile

Lulu is my adorable 8 week old pup! It has been awhile since I have potty trained and I have never used a crate before. So here is my question: How may times a night should and 8 week old pup go out. Right now I take the water away 2hrs b4 bedtime. She crys on average 4 times a night and I take her out, and she goes 99.9 % of the time. is this the best wat to use the crate? or should I be setting the time we go out? I honestly can't remember what I with mt last OES pup Bailey I must be blocking!!

Any advice would be appreciated. And I promise to post photos as soon as I figure out how to do it with a Mac!

I don't think she should have to go out 4 times during the night. I would try letting her cry one or two of those times and see if she goes back to sleep. It depends on their bladder size - and how much they've had to drink - you will have to adjust according to your pups needs - but 4 times during the night seems like alot to me.
I agree, maybe once or twice a night, but with my two girls they held it all night right from day one. I took up their water earlier though, like around 8 pm, and went to bed around midnight.
We agree 4 times a night seems like a lot.
We were lucky, our guy in the beginning went once a night,
then quickly held it overnight.

We took up the water about 2 hours before bedtime,
and made sure we took him out before bedtime each night.
Our breeder suggested to take him out if barked, but not
for whining.

He's now nine months, barks to go out and does a little half hop.
We interrupt the half hop to mean,"I really need to go out now!"

Best of luck with the housetraining ! :)
thanks everyone! it seemed like alot to me too. my new plan is to set my alarm and get up 3xs for a few nights and then taper down to 2xs per night. does that sound reasonable?

Heidi,

I don't think that you would need to do this - let her sleep and when she gets up - take her out. If she gets up again within 2-3 hours - let her cry a little. I think she'll be able to go at least 3 hours.

I think you'll get her into a habit of getting up frequently during the night (something I would try and avoid - I am a cranko when I don't get enough sleep! )

That's just my opinion anyway!
