The Change (Ladies Only)

I've been going thru the Pre-Change, I'm 46, but the last month or so, I've been really emotional. My moods swing all over the place and I'm down most of the time. Any one else and any suggestions?

When I went through it, I didn't realize until DH mentioned that I had been a little testy for a few months...to which I replied while breathing fire from my nose....'WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN????"...I went to my GYN, got some tests and was told I was in fact in the process.

I can honestly say, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Since I am a naturally 'cold' person, the hot flashes were a welcomed comfort to me...

I did take a hormone replacement for about 2 weeks and then decided to go it 'alone'.

So my suggestion would be an appointment with your GYN to confirm the change and then a talk with him about the various 'treatments' ....

Good Luck...and there IS life afterward..and it's BETTER!!!!!!....
I'm one of the very fortunate ones, nothing, nothing at all. One hot flash, maybe. I've heard estrogen is stored in body fat.......which could explain why I haven't had symptoms, I probably have enough stored until...oh, 2050....by which time I'll be long gone.

Yes, go to the OB/GYN and start that ball rolling. You and your family will appreciate it.
You may need HRT (hormone replacement therapy) or an antidepressant to help smooth out the mood swings. My sister was feeling premenstral all the time and was put on Zoloft. It did wonders for her.
I went through menopause at age 44. I didn't have mood swings but had the hot flashes from hel!. The kind that woke me up every hour. After a few months of that I went to the ob/gyn, got HRT (the combi-patch) and haven't looked back. I've been on HRT for 7 years, and you'll pry it out of my cold, dead hands. Definitely talk to your doctor. I have heard that hot flashes can go on for YEARS. 8O
I guess I also is one of the lucky ones. I was 53 when I realized that I had not had a monthly in 3 months. Then a month later I had a slow show for a few days and that was it!!! no hot flashes nothing. If you think your OBGYN can help GO. You have nothing to lose.
Good Luck. :)
Just a thought - not eating sugar or other simple carbs can help stabilize your blood sugar and your moods.

You have to be joking??? Not eat sugar?! 8O

Heck, I bet I really have a great personality (says the person who loves sugar....)
im 41 and all the way thru....chemo helped speed it up....ive only delt with hot flashes and night sweats....night sweats being nasty...

be careful of hormonal replacements though...definately go thru your doctor....sometimes estrogen can be a enhancer of breast cancer...like in my case...im actually on something that prevents estrogen growth...
I always dreaded menopause because my mother went thru it horribly - hot flashes, night sweats, monstrous mood swings, depression, etc., etc.

But I went thru forced menopause at 43 with a total hysterectomy. Maybe it was because everything came out (including all residual estrogen) that it really didn't bother me. A few hot flashes every now and then, but nothing compared to what I remembered from my mom. Doctor had me on HRT patches for a short while after surgery, but took me off them when I told her I was feeling pain in my legs (a sign of a possible clot), and I never went back on any kind of HRT.

Whew! :phew: Dodged THAT bullet!!
For those of you who flew through it...I HATE YOU :P

I have been going through this now for THREE YEARS! At first I didn't know what was going on, depression?, never-ending PMS?, just plain going nuts? Then I received the gift of a hot flash. Ok now I understand.

Understanding is one thing, living through it is something else. Hot flash hell, depression, sleeplessness, achy, night sweats, dizzy, mood swings, brainlessness...I could go on forever, but I won't  The one really, really bad part in the brainlessness. I forget words, can't finish thoughts, spelling is spellcheck on the computer. Having a conversation with me is pointless because I forget what is going on halfway through a sentence. Some day(soon Pls) I hope to get my brain back.

I went surfing and one of the things I found is "35 signs and symptoms of Menopause" and that has helped immensely. If something is happening with my mind or body, I check and most of the times its on the list. Though it doesn't help the symptom it helps to know I'm not crazy(er).

I'm not "into" drugs, don't like putting strange things into my body so I'm trying to handle this on my own. I will take vitamins and natural supplements and try to handle this as best I can. One day at a time.
I went through it early. Early 40's. I was a raging bitch. I actually threw a steak at my (ex)husband in a restaurant. I didn't know what was going on.

I had mood swings, hot flashes, and sometimes, I felt so full of rage, I thought I would explode. People who know me, can't believe it, since I really am mild mannered!

The only thing that got me though was HRT. I have just stopped taking them within the last two months..and so far so good. I had tried once before, but the hot flashes returned.

Good luck to you. See your doc and get some meds!

I've been looking at lowering my sugar but only because my blood tests showed a higher level. Now I've really cut back on it, but it's in EVERYTHING. I drink skim milk and it has sugar in it. I don't know what the diabetics do. I do need to see my DR. as my main symptom now is crying at the drop of a hat......... Thanks
A late post... lately I have been comparing symptoms to the events in life and wondering if this event really exists... for me anyway! Mood swings ...hhhmmm kids can't get it together after 30 years and run back to mum! Hot flashes....hhhmmm idiot husband waits till i've had 3 or 5 glasses of wine ...THEN climbs onto shed roof to fix it and falls ...last seen...still lying on floor! Temper tantrums.. hhhmmm lets see kids see husband lying on shed floor for two days and have a go at mum because I left him there to think about the stupidity of his act... Lack of sleep hhhhmmmm my bodies way of saying the kids are visiting dad in hospital.... go party girl!!! Do discos still exist??
