rescued boy is pacing the floor!

We have rescued a deaf oes, between 1 & 1 1/2 years old. Its amazing how well hes fit into the family & gets along with our other dog. They run & chase each other 'till they're both exhausted! We've had him a month now, but he has one behavior we don't understand - he paces thru the house - front door to back door, sometimes circling the kitchen table. It seems to be worse if the cat is "visable" to him as they don't get along quite as well (probably because he can't hear the cat hissing at him so doesn't realize that the cat thinks he's the king! lol) Even after a long walk & play he doesn't come in & setle down like our other guy, he still paces for 1/2 hour to 45 minutes before laying down. Is this pacing "normal" oes behaviour?

We've scoured this site for all sorts of information & education, especially before making the decision to rescue this guy, and its been a great source of practical & useful information.

Thank you!

Is he sniffing the kitty?
Deaf dogs have a strong sense of smell...
Just wondering if that may be the case?
Are you using signals for him??
I have a deaf 7 month old boy...
I have had another deaf gal in the past .
Please feel free to ask any questions.
I don't have any experience with a def OES.... but I can tell about our man Baloo...

He paces at times like that also. EVEN when he has had lots of exercise/walks/play etc... He is just not going to settle untill he is ready. I have noticed that it does take him longer to do than past dogs we have had. I think it's because he just feels that he may be physically tired but his brain is not...??? I am guessing of course.

We do have to find "mind games" for him to do... Hide his bones around the house, put kibble in a kong and peanutbutter for him to lick it out...
tell him "go find (name here)" and once he finds that person they tell him to "go find (name here)"...

then finally he will settle down.

Sometimes drives me nuts....
Abbey paces a lot also. I read OCD is a common thing for OES dogs. She does it a lot after we get home when we are all winding down to eat dinner. Happy hour time. It is like she is thinking she needs to do something, but can''t remember.
We rescued a young OES just under a year ago, at the beginning he also paced the floor and would not settle down, now after a walk he just flops down with the other two and enjoys life, give your sheepie a little time it is probably uncertainty on their part.

Oh by the way that is him in my avatar.
I would say he can smell the cat. Have you tried putting him on his bed when he starts to pace and stroking his head until he calms down? Might not work but it does with my yorkie, she usually gives up and goes to sleep.
