Poor poor Beau

I know someone else posted a similar problem but I cant find it in the search. This evening when I was brushing Beau I noticed a little spot of pus on the end of his penis. He has an appointment wednesday at the vet. What could it be? I noticed he's been a little bit grouchy lately. Growls at Chey and Soph when they come too close to the jewels. Didnt realize why until grooming him. Poor guy. Whoever had this prob with their pup how long did it take to fix it??? I feel bad for the poor guy.

I think it was Shon with Obe. Obe had the petey problem, not Shon! I hope Beau feels better soon.
AWWWWWWWWWW poor baby! Hope all goes well.
Bummer. It was Vicki and George's dog, George, and it was back in September. I think they thought it was a prostate issue, as George was not neutered, but I'm not sure how it was resolved.

We have been struggling with this with Oscar as well. He had this discharge as a puppy, so we cultured it and it came back negative for any bacteria. My vet said it should stop when he was neutered. Well, it didn't. It's occurred a couple more times over the years. We always culture it and it comes up negative.

In April of 2008, it happened again while Oscar was dealing with a horrible IBD flare-up, and then a rash started down the inside of his legs. We cultured the discharge and found MRSI (methicillin resistant staph intermedius), which is the dog version of MRSA (methicillin resistant staph aureus), or drug resistant staph. Not good. He was on doxycycline for 6 weeks, which seemed to clear things up, then the green stuff came back. We cultured it again and found pseudomonas, another drug resistant bacteria. Oscar took Zenaquin, and it cleared up.

In November, Oscar got pancreatitis and was very ill, and the discharge started again. We cultured it, and nothing, no bacteria. But then he was having trouble laying down, like it hurt, and he was walking strangely. I was worried about his tummy, and bloat, but that was all okay. It was his penis. So they flushed it out and sent me home with pain meds, and he seemed to be doing better. This morning, he wouldn't lay down again. :( I took him in, they checked him out and flushed his penis again. Even though Oscar is neutered, my vet thinks it might be his prostate. I am taking him for an ultrasound of his urinary and genital systems on Wednesday, to see if we can detect any abnormalities.

I certainly hope it isn't this complicated for Beau. He might just have an infection, easily treated. I just wanted to let you know what we've been through so far, as maybe it will help you.

Good luck on Wednesday.

Laurie and Oscar
I'm rather new to boy dogs
I have no idea whether this could be of help but I thought I'd post. A
friend's neutered dog had this condition... I can't find the article she had
shared with me when her dog was going through treatment but this is
probably close... http://www.petplace.com/dogs/balanoposthitis/page1.aspx
I dont know what it was the vet has no clue everything came back clean. No bacteria and there is no more discharge so go figure I dont know. He does jump a fence that we have to keep sophie from eating the dining room chairs. Maybe he scratched himself. I dont know. Shrugging my shoulders on this one.

That is pretty normal for a little man to have a discharge.
There are many names for it but, none I can think of!
He should be fine....those silly boys!
