Complete Blood Count (CBC) and other baseline testing

I was wondering...I've been doing a lot of research around this whole BARF diet and came across one book I really like by Wendy Volhard. She's the only author out of about a dozen dog health/nutrition books that I've reviewed so far that suggest doing a CBC etc baseline test to determine if the dog is getting adequte nutrition. I like Volhard's approach. It seems solid and reasonable. In fact I've signed up for her weeklong training in Virginia in the Spring.

But in the meantime - I thought I'd ask what you thought about performing blood tests to determine health.
