Following on from the TV programme about the Kennel Club and breeding issues earlier this year the BBC have decided they are not going to show Crufts this year! Shocked Shocked Shocked

heres the link and the reasons http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/2187

I'm so shocked its something that has been on the TV forever, Sunday night finding out who best in show is whilst having tea is tradition!

heres hoping that someone else will show it instead!
I know I just found out too!!! Sad
PETA is trying to get USA network to drop Westminster as well - citing the BBC move regarding Crufts as proof that there is a problem in purebred dogs and something wrong with dog shows.

It's fairly unlikely to succeed here. And certainly not this year. Americans don't fall quite so easily for these tactics.

Did you know the KC caved and rewrote a bunch of breed standards including that of OES? They proposed three changes to the OES standard purportedly to improve the "health" of our breed. The fancy evidently has the opportunity to comment on it. Not sure if it will be pushed through or not.

One is no more dewclaw removal.

OK-DOKIE, in that case the KC should be required to pay the vet bills when the damn things get ripped off later in life.

One slightly changes how the standard refers to coat, since evidently having lots of hair is detrimental to the breed's health. OK, then. We can always focus on breeding the hypothyroid dogs we've been trying to screen OUT of our breeding programs for health reasons, since they tend to produce less hair Rolling Eyes

The third has to do with their rears and, quite frankly, I still don't understand exactly what is meant. I have the changes on my work computer. This one made no sense whatsoever. I'll have to ask a breeder judge/long time breeder to show me what they're talking about and how it supposedly makes the breed "healthier"

For those of you in the UK, and beyond (who get to watch the BBC), now might be a good time to let them know that you are not thrilled with their decision to not air Crufts. Unless you are thrilled with their decision, of course. In which case it's a moot point. Cool

Our GSD still has her dew claws and they are a pain in the well you know. I wish they were removed when she was a pup. The nails are so hard to trim because they grow in a circle and if you dont trim them they get caught and tear. PETA UGH I think they were always a bit on the mad crazy side.

Done - lets see what rubbish they come back with!!!!
i don't know much about British television; but another channel would be smart to swoop in and cover Crufts, stealing all the viewers that night.

I wonder if we could lobby Animal Planet to do it?

Edit: I emailed Animal Planet, asking them to consider covering Crufts, and even suggested that they could use people like Victoria Stillwell from "Its Me or the Dog" to act as commentators. I don't know if there is enough time for them to act on this; but I'd love to be able to see Crufts on Animal Planet!
somebody over here does show cruft s- just not live - don't they? I know I have seen it.
Animal planet shows it.
