The puppy, table, people, ice skaters, treats, and ???

Neighbors got a puppy and Obe finally got to meet Otis (lab). OES really dont realize how big they are even in play, slips their mind or something. He did great but wanted to play, play, play. Of course the puppy was more than happy to oblige. Then we (friend and I) went for an entertaining walk.

Obe decided he wanted to get some attention during our walk around the lake. We all know he is lacking in that department. We get to the lake house, packed with people, ice skaters, food, etc. Go around back and Obe just jumps right on top of a table in front of everyone and sits down. He could not see the ice skaters due to the wall. Had to get a better view, lots going on.This of course brings the people can I pet your dog, he so cute, etc. Obe more than happy to get attention.

Move to grass area he sits again and watches, smells food from people eating lunch. How I will never know but he spotted someone eating carrots and sat right beside them. They laughed, he got a carrot (fav), as well as more attention. I answered some questions, knew the answers thanks to oes.org.

While this was going on I could see a group of kids 4-7 years of age gathering wanting to pet Obe. They come ask, Obe sits, 5 or 6 kids start petting. Obe then lays down for belly rubs , eating it up. Conversation between the kids is as follows:
What kid of dog is this? It's an OES. Wow, you don't see many of these dog around. Well...da, they are from England. That's why they are called OES. My brother went to England and he saw a lot of OES. We don't see them here because we don't live in England. Then the shout out to mom, who was dying laughing with the rest of everyone else there. This dog is from England because it's an OES. More laughter by all.

All the while Obe is getting pet by 10-12 little hands and is in heaven. Kids leave, Obe gets up, we ware walking away. He stops dead looks at the lady with the carrots, sits beside her again to get another one. We then walk home.

sounds like a very nice time for all. thanks for shareing!
Wow! Imagine life is Obe wasn't so shy

What a gentleman, asking for the carrots!

He sounds like a fine boy, kind to all, clown above all (how typical of the breed). You keep him well groomed, socialized, etc. He and you are a credit to the breed!
Great, Cute story. Sounds like a great afternoon walk!
What a wonderful story. Such a great day!

Carrots are Portage's favourite, too. Unfortunately he'd start with a deep stare. and if that didn't procure him a carrot. he'd pick up a front paw (as if to shake it) and whack the innocent lady with it.

I'm soooooooo grateful to the person who taught my sheepies shake a paw.
Obe has such great manners, he is a real gentleman!

Forget paw whacking. Tiggy sits right up close and then licks the air, sticking her tongue out as far as it will go and then just accidentally gets closer and licks whatever you're eating that she wants. So far I havent managed to teach her that its not acceptable to commandeer human food.
Obe is a great ambassador for the breed. I'm sure he loved all the attention!
sounds like Obe had a blast
Obe sounds like he is a geat dog
Obe is a great dog... only because of I have learned from the wonderful people of oes.org. I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH.

Oh my!! That is what Ru does too! It's very funny to see, I've not been able to stop Ru either but at least there is some warning before they get too close.

I love that story of the walk around the lake, Obe is such a character, what a wonderful dog!
I strongly believe that Obe enjoyed "his" day!!! :clappurple:
Great story! What a character that Obe is! And what an ambassador for the breed!

I have also learned a BOATLOAD of info here on the forum, and we've been owned by sheepdogs for 30 years!! How did we ever manage before the internet?
Awww, I wish I could have been there to see Obe!
Sounds like a fun day for you and Obe. :D
