Stubborn Stubborn Stubborn

5 month old Casey is stubborn. She scratches at the door, I open it to let her in, she looks at me, sniffs, and then walks away!!!! She will do this 2 or 3 times. I thinks she's trained me to offer a bribe to come in. Did I get suckered or what?????!!! - Kathy

First of all, Casey is soooooooo cute in that picture! Second, my parent's sheepie does the same exact thing with the sliding glass door to the outside. He also kind of does this thing where if he knows someone is in a room with a closed door, he will scratch the door unitl you open it. Then if he decides to stay outside the door, you cannot close it again because either he has parket his huge self right in the entryway or he will scratch the door again. I really do not know if it is a sheepie thing to just know who is where all the time, but this is what he does.
Dear Guest,

Good insight. I didn't think of that. She could be checking to see if we're nearby. Thanks - Kathy
She probably wants you to go out with her!
Ben is still doing this (he'll be six in April.) He'll scratch, come in, check to see us and then ask to go back out. Most of the time he won't go potty unless we are watching him. Sometimes it is aggravating but in the end at least I know he's gone if we are heading out of the house - with or without him. Just peace of mind for me...

Casey is really adorable!
OES = Stubborn  And as a herding breed they are orderly and need to know everything is as it should be. She sounds like she is just following instincts. You are her family, her pack, and she needs to know where you are and what you're doing.
Just wait until she learns how to open the door to come in! Merlin opens the sliding screen door and lets himself in. Silly boy doesnt close the door after himself tho! :? We had to get some gadget that slides close the door after he comes in.
P.S. Casey is just adorable!
hugs
Kim,
It is funny that you mention the sliding door thing A.K.A. helping himself indoors thing with the sliding door. My parent's Sheepie, also named Merlin, does the same exact thing. I think it is really funny when he does it and I always know in the winter when he has done it even when I do not see him or him in the act of doing it. There is this cool breeze that fills the house.
I bet Casey's all frustrated and worried about you! "Why won't she come out here. What's wrong with her. I keep trying to coax her. Poor 2-legged mom..."
 You are all great! Thanks for the advice and compliments about Casey. I've got to start thinking more like a OES. - Kathy
:P Willowsprite - I love that picture!!!!!! - Kathy
Cooper does this, except he doesn't scratch at the door, he just jumps up, puts his paws on the screen door, and looks in the window at me! I let him in, 2 minutes later he wants back out....
Hmmmm...sheepies are just like upright children...in & out & in & out
