Question About Fireworks

I LOVE watching them!!! The Fire Department in our little town use to put on a show at the town park, but it became so popular that the attendance outgrew the park so they had to stop. :(
Knowing some of the firemen, I know what they spent. The funds came from donations collected specifically for the fireworks.

But, I'm curious - Who paid for all those wonderful shows that went off last night? Was it big business or government?

With the economy the way it is worldwide, do you think the money should've gone for the fire works or something more important???

Don't get me wrong, because I LOVE watching them! But, worldwide that's billions of dollars. With times the way they are...
What's you're opinion?

As far as I know most of these shows are sponsered by local and national businesses who donate towards these firework displays.
No Fireworks here, except for the illegial ones. My little guy hates them and shakes until they stop.
If they stop where are the fireworks employees going to go? Unemployment?

Even in hard times, public entertainment is necessary otherwise we'd all sit around and cry in our beers. It is a balancing act, what is necessary and what is for the celebration of the people.

Actually fireworks for New Years is new to me. Never heard of them until recently. And far safer than firing off guns into the air!
With all the doom and gloom in the world, it is nice for one special night people can escape into a special celebration of hopefully a better New Year ahead.

Here in Melbourne the fireworks are sponsored by the City of Melbourne (Government) and I think it is money well spent to make people happy, forget their troubles, smile and bring promise of maybe a better new year ahead then the one that has passed.

Yes maybe a waste of money but at least it brings for one night hope, joy and smiles to many of thousands of people
The Philadelphia Mayor announced plans to cancel the New Year's Eve fireworks in the beginning of December. A few private organizations/corporations came up with the 75 grand to pay for them.
Boston's 4th of July fireworks (the ones after the Boston Pops play on the Esplanade along the Charles River) have been sponsored by a local businessman/philanthropist (David Mugar) for many years now.
