take a seat

Obe and I have been going to different places to go for walks, instead of downtown and around the lake. He is so funny as he will walk, then find a nice spot to see everything and sit down. He is just checking out the world and the different smells. I guess. So I oblige and take a seat. Then we continue after a few minutes. Funny to watch him. He looks at everything that moves, while his nose just twitches with all the new smells.

He has also figured out if we go to the lake, that the lake house is the half way point. From there it's back to the house. He instantly lays down. Come on Obe, he mopes and smells everything there is to possibly smell and walks so slow it is ridiculous. Go towards the golf course, he is back to lets go, I'm not going home whoo hoo.

Any one else have an OES do this?

Sybil would, given half a chance.

He's curious and infinitely fascinated with the world around him. You should pick up a few tracking and scenting books to take along with you to read while he's doing his own read on the world. Even if you never DO any of this stuff, it's fascinating to try to understand it better.

Mariah does this when we go for a walk. There is a nice paved walking path not too far from home with benches every so often. We'll be walking along, she spies a bench, never breaks stride & the next thing I know she's sitting there just taking in the world! None of my other dogs have done this.
Duchess Winnifred (Winnie) has done this since we got her at 8 weeks. She found a small berm in the area where we walk and she sits down on top of it and watches the world go by sniffing all the scents. She'd sit for a long time if I'd let her. Wonder if it's instinct? As in watching the sheep from a perch on the hill?

Exactly what I'm talking about.

It reminds me of the Bugs Bunny carton,. Sheepdog clocks in says "Morning Ralph (wolf), Ralph replies Morning Sam (sheepie) proceeds to clock in. Sam then sits on a hill an observes the flock.
I loved that cartoon!!!!
The animators appear to have known a sheepie they had some mannerisms down pat.
Not a sheepdog, but had a Pyr who would. I'd have to drag this boy home. Going out was great fun, coming home was a great pain.....until he spied the gate

Now MO hates to leave the yard period. She would rather return home at the first chance.
