Fiesta Dinnerware

My dinnerware is old, about 10 years old. It started out as service for 8. I'm down to 7 dinner plates, 5 salad dishes, and 3 bowls. And it looks like he**.

So, I've been looking for new dishes. I think I really like the Fiesta dinnerware. I'm thinking of getting service for 4 in Sunflower (yellow) and service for 4 in Scarlet (red). There are other pieces I'd like too.

Does anyone know when they go on sale? I seem to recall January is a big sale month for domestics...but these days, who knows?

Anyone have a handle on this? Anyone have these dishes? I've only heard really good things about how they wear.

Oh, I love Fiesta's colors! How can you stop with just two?? I'd love a set but already have 4 other sets.......no way I could justify a 5th, nor do I have the room!

I can't believe I've ever seen Fiesta on sale. Even at the open to the public restaurant supply store I thought the price per setting wasn't that much different from what I saw at JC Penney.
I have half blue and half yellow and I supplemented with a few bright red striped pieces that aren't fiesta ware but work together nicely.

some of the chain department stores run periodic sales. I got mine on sale in FIlene's (Hechts/Kaufmann's) before the evil Macy's bought them out

I have seenit on sale in Bell's and other southern sotres. can you tell I shop while on vacation? January would be a good bet.

What colors do you have? I picked yellow and red, because our kitchen is deep yellow and my coffee pot, toaster oven, micro are red.
I think you are right. Jan. is the time for house wears.
I have correll (spelling) all white. Never breaks. I have had this set for years. Its always in stock if I do need a pc. I have service for 12. WHY???
its the 2 of us LOL.

I do have a set of GOOD dishes I bought in Germany in the very early 60's. My ex was stationed there. It has been moved from house to house never used. Why do I keep it? Maybe I will give it to one of my grandaughters. Cannot put it in the mico. It has gold on the edges. What I need is a nother set of flatwear. Somehow it keeps getting lost :? :? :?
had 12 now about 8 of most. I must through it out ???

I have very good China from my first marriage...service for 15. I love it, and use it quite a bit (remember, I only have 7 dinner plates, so if I have company, the good stuff comes out!) If you love your china, please use it. It will make you feel very special!

Its just Tony and me at home now, but we seem to go through a lot of dishes. We both have breakfast and dinner at home everyday. And, I have lunch at home.

I'm getting excited about new dishes! I feel like a kid getting a Suzy Homemaker set! Maybe I'll get them for my birthday!

Oh...what does happen to flatware?! Where does it go!

I have the same set - for 16! My mother has the white set that preceded ours. I love her cups better than ours.

I have a china set for 12, including crystal. Both the china and crystal were discontinued after I chose them. The crystal is around 75 a stem now - and my hisband is mad I won't sell them.

I have some everyday pottery that I bought when we lived in Albuquerque.
A service for 12, with all of the serving pieces.

I have my red Christmas Tree dishes - a service for 16. Including chargers and all of the serving pieces.

I also have a set of china that belonged to my grandmother. Her brother brought it to her after WWII. My mother has a set of the same china (white with 2 thing gold bands) - so my daughter will be getting a set of 24.!
I just sold an entire set of 50's era Fiestaware on craigslist right before Thanksgiving - 16 place settings, three pitchers and a salt and pepper set! It was a variety of colors - I'd picked it up a long the way. But I have so many dish sets I needed to make room, and those were the ones I didn't use the most.

So if you're not married to getting new, look on craigslist and ebay - there is a ton out there and deals can be found! I always find a lot in antique shops, and they're generally willing to consider offers, so look around!

A quick word to the wise: Correll Hearthstone is NOT the same unbreakable Correll stuff. Not only does it chip like crazy, it also breaks. :( I asked for it on my wedding registry and I love the look of it but had I known that it didn't possess the original Correll magic qualities, I would've gotten something else-- which I'll be doing anyway since this set is already pretty rough looking.
I guess the reason why a larger service. Same as Deb. We seem to go through dishes all day. I use my dishwasher about every other day. The only thing I run out of silverware!  Darn Garbage......
Fiesta rocks. My grandma had a set of all colors. If you buy vintage though, be careful. I've heard that red Fiesta contains lead and therefore is not safe to eat off. But that's the vintage stuff. Modern is fine.

Buy it as birthday present to yourself!!!!

There's an old saying "red and yellow, catch a fellow." Maybe I need red and yellow plates!
Deb,
Not sure if you have Kohl's out in IL, but I believe they sell it, and they usually have some great sales. My SIL registered for Fiestaware thru JC Penney when they got married, it has held up really well. A little off subject, but we were in Bed Bath and Beyond today, and they have some beautiful dish sets on clearance.

My fiance was getting a little nervous, I am so ready to go register for stuff. I think I will get overwhelmed with the power of the registry gun!

Good luck with your dish hunting!
I am on the same track - Kohls. :D
I was just on the phone with my friend Donna - she works there and was just leaving work. It's not on sale now, but will be. The current price for a 5 piece place setting is $48. Dinner plate, salad plate, soup/cereal bowl, cup, and saucer.

I have the old, original fiesta ware from my parents. We used it for our everyday dishes - and now it is worth a small fortune. 8O It is all boxed up in my attic. I should get it out!
I have dinner plates and bread and butter plates in Fiestaware Cinnabar .( the maroon colour ) I 'm thinking of adding bowls in turquoise to go with it . I love Fiestaware . I bought my new about 5 years ago . It is cheaper on line so look at Amazon.com because they have it.

We do have Kohls here, and it's one of my favorite stores. AND one of my WW members is a Kohl's employee and frequently gives me friends and family coupons! Maybe she'll give me one when they are on sale! Woo Hoo!
I don't have Fiesta, but I wish I did. The 4 sets I have are two formal and two casual. With just the two of us and no entertaining........why do I need more than a couple of plates total  ??

or to get rid of the sock monkey sheets
So for those who have been to my house, you know that I love 50,s stuff and I have a bunch of fiestaware. Here's the interesting thing; did you know that the old stuff os actually radioactive? I've taken a couple of classes where we've used geiger counters on broken pieces. creepy but cool!
I thought it was lead based glazing that was the issue?

apparently the glaze is over radioactive paint :D :D
I think it's so interesting so many people have/had/want this particular dinnerware. Not that it's not nice looking, it is, it just seems like any old dinnerware (from the outside).

I have a dinnerware question.

My mom wanted new everyday dinnerware, so for xmas my dad told her to pick it. She picked the Martha Stewart for Macy's basketweave plate. She said she noticed when she got home that most of the plates had an unfinished-feeling edge, like it hadn't been glazed. Has anyone else experienced that, with other dishes or Martha's?
FIESTAWARE IS 50% OFF AT KOHLS TODAY AND TOMORROW!!!

 :yay: :clappurple: :go: :cheer: :dreidel5:  :yay: :clappurple: :go: :cheer: :dreidel5:

I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!

I think I'll get red, yellow AND tangerine!!!!

WOO HOO!!!
Woohoo - I hope you got them! :D :D

I am going to Kohls tonight to (hopefully) get a new pair of shoes - show shoes. The black ones like the silver ones i have.
OH - the picture - shoe just visible in the lower left corner:

Image

they are cute, and super comfortable and I can RUN in them :D

They were sold out at our Kohls. I am up at LeAnne's for the dog how, and she works at Kohls parttime while going to college. She is at work now, so if they have them, I can get a discount to boot! :D She gets her break at 10pm, so I will head in then..... :D

It's the orange pieces that used a radioactive material to achieve the color. My mother gave me her wedding china, a 12 place setting of Fiesta from 1941.

Hhhmmmm, now you have me wondering, I thought she was being nice.
Did you get some Deb? I like mine. I've got four colors mixed & matched. I bought them at Kohls a few years ago. They still look great.
I ordered service for 4 each red and yellow on line. Then Saturday, Tony and I went to Kohl's and bought service for 4 in tangerine. We also bought the gusto bowls 4 in red, 4 in yellow and 4 in tangerine.

The coffee cups are small, so I next sale I'll have to buy mugs.

It was a blast to throw out all the old stuff and re-do the cupboards. Tony did most of the work since my hip was not in good shape.

I can't wait to get the rest of dishes, but it will be about 2 weeks.
Yeah!! Sounds like a fun way to start the new year. I am a bit of a freak when it comes to dishes for some reason. I have multiple sets for each season of the year and for special occasions. It's a disease. I've had to stop even looking at them because I can't keep myself from buying them and I have no where else to put them!
