What are you doing for the holidays?

I'm quite the social butterfly this holiday season. Last Saturday night was the barn party, tomorrow is our work luncheon, Thursday night I'm entertaining "the girls," Saturday is lunch with one of my bestest friends (who I see only a few times a year) our very own Debcram :excited: . Christmas Eve day I'm going to Mom's to start the turkey prep and spend the night, then Christmas Day my sister, bro-in-law and bro will come to Mom's.

Haven't made plans for New Year's Eve or New Year's Day though.

So what are YOU doing?????

I hope everyone takes lots of pics!! How cool to be meeting up with forum members especially one like her ;) I wish we were doing that.

We'll be very busy. Very Very busy. We're going to parents and in-laws AND celebrating lil j's birthday. I've made gift baskets for everyone in our neighborhood, everyone in mr. j's office, AND family. I'm not sure i will sleep from now until Christmas wrapping actual gifts esp since I'm making baskets out of most of them, and I already wake up at 3:30 a.m. AND a quick wake up to let the puppy out at 2 a.m. I hope it's enjoyed b/c I'm not sure I will do this again!!!

I plan on chowing down every day until the new year ...at which time I will make a new year's resolution to only eat a handful of junk food a day instead of the platefuls I consume now. People are going to bring bags of sugar to my funeral one day.
We're staying in town as hubby has to work but we're making all our family come to us, which really is the way to go!

No huge plans, though. Party this weekend, parents come in on Sunday, then I hope grandma wants to spending every waking hour (and there's a lot of them!) with the baby so I can sleep! Hey, it's Christmas-time, miracles can happen!

Then, New Year's is my hubby's and my 10 year anniversary of getting together, so I hope we can do something to celebrate. He says that now that we're married all previous important dates become null...

Congrats!!!!!!!!!! How exciting for the both of you :)

I used to be big into celebrating EVERYTHING ...but now that our house is so busy and we barely have time to take our clothes off at night, I just expect him to remember the date. ...and he pretty much gets reminded by me weekly until the day comes.

That's funny you say that. We were in the car on Sunday and I mentioned the 10-year thing, which is when he said it doesn't count anymore. Only our wedding date. I said, when is that? He must have named 15 dates before he actually named the right one!  I told him if he ever needs to remember, we have the date engraved on a picture frame in our family room...
I'm like y'all. I enjoy all the hustle & bustle of the holidays. :D I've been to three Christmas dramas (all three nephews had different ones) and had two Christmas parties, one with my Sunday School class and one with my Girlfriends (book club).

Tonight, I'm hosting a little open house for my family and Robbie's family. I'm just fixing some heavy hors d'oeurves and lots of hot drinks. Mostly, it's just to get together and relax for a little while and enjoy the company.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are always with family, too.
I'm thinking of going to visit my Aunt in Charleston the weekend after Christmas. Haven't gotten those details worked out yet. Someone (read Robbie) thinks we should wait until after the holidays, but I remain unconvinced.
Not sure about New Year's yet, but I think my sister is hosting a party, so we'll probably go to her house and have fun with the kids. 8)

Great thread Paula. I enjoy hearing about your holiday plans. :D

I can't wait to hear about what Robbie gets you for Christmas... Is this the first together or is this the second? 8)
Me too!! It's our second Christmas together and I have no idea what he's getting me. :D
Just this morning I was thinking we have not heard Robbie's name in a long time. I'm glad he's still around! :D
She should post more personal pics of them together since we haven't seen any!!! No pressure... ;)
Oh Joah! That would be because getting him to pose for a picture is like pulling teeth. He hates to be in photos. And of course, I LOVE taking pictures. I'll see what I can do, though.

How sweet of you to think of him (and us), Paula. :D
I am staying in Evergreen over the holidays,or at least within the state of Co. My family wants me to come to Fla with Obe (found out last night). I have no desire to travel at all over the holidays. For some reason they family think Fla. for xmas. I like it to look and feel like x mas. I have that in Co.

My plans are to spend time with friends here in Co. Xmas Eve dinner at this girls house. X-mas at some other friends house for dinner. New Years Eve...to early to know and New Years Day, recovery. I'm sure I will drink to much. Reason I hate drinking, you feel like crap the next day. Dont worry I DONT drink and drive. Walk, get a hotel, call a cab, whatever, it's cheaper than a DUI guarantee!
Hope everyone here at oes.org has safe and happy holidays.
nuttin!!!
Since I have bene sick since the first week in November I haven't even decorated inside the house!!

The kids will come Christmas eve - by then I hope the tree is up and decorated :D . My son will stay until the day after Christmas (with the gf) and my daughter flies out on Sunday.

Some friends want us to come over at some point - no date yet and we are actually going out on New Year's eve, but that is it. A very quiet year. Other than one gift I ran and got before work this morning - if it couldn't be ordered online it wasn't happening :D :D

I do plan on baking cookies - the only time of the year I eat them and I don't want to pass that up :)

Usually I am all about christmas, this is a nice break 8)
Kerry your posts reminds me of that Tim Allen movie that came out a few years ago where he & his wife decided to skip Christmas just this once - and then didn't get to. Did you see that one? Quite funny.

I'm sorry you've not been feeling well. I do hope you're feeling up to baking cookies. But, if for any reason you're not, just let me know. I'm doing enough baking for both of us and I'll be glad to send you a care package. :D
Kerry and I are pretty much on the same page this year.

Finally finished decorating the house this past week-end - only took me 2 weeks! Just couldn't muster up enough energy to get it done quicker, so it just dragged on. The kids are coming home the 23rd and leaving the 28th. Way too short, but I'll take what I can.

Christmas Eve is church service, then a buffet dinner at home. Food prep that afternoon is always fun because the whole family gets involved, we play schmaltzy Xmas music and just laugh the afternoon away. Christmas Day will just be the 4 of us because everyone else seems to be traveling. I'm going to check around to see if anyone will be alone for Christmas and invite them over.

Our New Year's Eves have not been wild and crazy for quite a few years now. This year we're just going out to dinner with friends, then back to our house for socializing. New Year's Day will be even quieter because the kids won't be home, and we figure - what the heck? It's really just another day.

Things used to be a lot more hectic (and fun!) while the kids were growing up. This empty nest stuff is for the birds, especially when your kids live so far away.
We are having just kids and grandkids for Christmas Eve with a lot of special hor'dourves (msp) and special deserts..(YUM!!!)

This is our year to host Christmas so I will be having between 25-30 people over. My adult kids make the sides, deserts and a main. Dino, will make his special sauce which takes him about 6 hours to cook. We will have ham, turkey and an Italian must-have Ravioli's!!!

One of my daughter's friends mom and 2 cousins are coming in from Texas and have no where to go, so they will be joining us too!!!! Obviously, I have never met them, they speak very little english so it should be very interesting!!!! (I just hate to hear of anyone being alone on Christmas....   )

I am really looking forward to this year!!! It will be the first year that Heart will be a part of all of this and I am sooo excited for her to meet everyone. Pearl and Coz just stay in our room and chill all day with their Christmas bones close by!!!!! :D :D :D :D
I have to say, Chris, that you are right about the difference having kids around makes. I am enjoying it so much more this year because of Connor. There is nothing like seeing Christmas through the eyes of a three-year-old!! It's so fascinating!! :D

My mom, sister and I got together on Sunday afternoon to make candy. Before the day was out, everyone in the family had come in and taste tested or helped in some way while we laughed and joked and listened to that schmaltzy Christmas music, too. Those are the best times of Christmas. Just the memories of time spent together are way better than the presents. 8)
well, its pretty drab at our house.....we are painting the living room and front bedroom...so no tree...all of the stuff from those two rooms are in the dining room and the family room....i did hang a wreath on the front door though so we dont look completely ba humbug....

that said...i helped my neighbor decortate her two trees, i have to help cisco do his this week...its the cabinets by design dinner party this week..that said, its not going to be the glutton food fest as in past years, but it will be wonderful because we are all together....

Christmas dinner is at my neighbors, brian works....so it will be quiet...but id rather have quiet than pukey!
I'm also with the quiet/ ill ones! I'm still not working so have all the time in the world- but no energy.
Anyway, I have no family apart from Mum & Dad who have cancelled Christmas because they don't believe in it and don't want to spend any money. On the upside, they told me not to buy them anything either.

SO.. I only had to get Greg's prezzie which is all wrapped and ready. He only has Xmas Day off work this year, so Xmas Eve we are watching a movie together when he gets home, then we are going to his Mum's Xmas Day which will be fun with his 4 brothers and Rufus
Again, I'm off the hook with cooking but will of course help out in the kitchen. I'm driving so it's going to be a fairly quiet day for me.

It's cookies all round for prezzies, I'm getting to make some really fab ones and wrapping them up so they look soooo cute! Thanks to the recipes on here from you guys!

I've not been feeling very festive, it's so weird not having a TV at this time of year, and I don't have enough energy to get into town so I keep forgetting it's Christmas!!

To be honest, I would much prefer a big noisy family do, with a gift for everyone and plenty of eating, drinking, singing and being merry but it would take me weeks to get over that! We are staying in for New Year I think.
So I'll be content with the peace and love and plan next year's riot instead :D
The quarantine of my two sheepdogs that some of you may have read about in another thread, has put a real cloud over the holidays this year. We are not supposed to have any visitors to the house including family. The dogs can't go for their usual walks or to the dog park even when it's not raining and they are getting antsy with cabin fever.

We are still angry about it.

Yea!!!! We are still onyum loafing! I just pm'd you to confirm!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT! Three of my most favorite things: Paula, Scotch and onyum loaf!!!! It's going to be a good weekend! :dreidel5:
We went to a holiday party last weekend, this Saturday I'll be with Auntie Paula. Tony and I will home Christmas eve and Christmas day. We'll watch movies and eat Turkey Christmas eve, and Chinese food Christmas day. I'm not sure if my daughter will come by.

Saturday the 27th we have a holiday party, and Sunday the 28th we'll host our Hanukkah party for my daughter, step mom, nephew and his girlfriend, and their respective children :dreidel5: . I've been breaking out the holiday decorations. I had forgotten I bought a wreath (how out of character for me!) with a singing sheepie on it, so we hung that up amongst our Hanukkah decorations!

We never make plans for New Year's Eve...maybe go out for an early dinner, and try to stay awake til midnight!
Now that my sons/dil/grandkids gifts are in the mail, I can relax a little. lol This week Thursday lunch with hubby's office...which will be fun. Friday, back down to Miami for more dental surgery for my daughter, not fun. Saturday, Family Christmas with my brother/sil, nieces and their children. (I love watching the children at Christmas. The highlight for me.) Party at our neighbors. Nice because they are right across the street.:) Sunday celebrate my Birthday, even though it's on Monday. Monday celebrate my birthday by myself, lol. Christmas Eve/Christmas Day baking and cooking...son/girlfriend coming late in the day for dinner, so have all day to relax. My daughter will be out of commision from her dental surgery...so pain meds for her. poor thing...hopefully this is the end for her.

Looking forward to having a peaceful Christmas.
We are n ot doing as much as we used to. There used to be lots of fanfare around here on the Holidays. This year it's going to be quieter... and I am totally OK with it this year!!

Daughter is not coming home for the holiday from college. She's going to see other family members this time. SO it's just hubby, me and the 2 boys. OH, and Baloo... of course. We have no other family coming over this year and we are not going anywhere either. Not because we are being "scrooge-ish"... we just are being lazy and laid back and hanging out at home. I think in the afternoon we may go see a movie, once all the gifts are opened and the food is eaten... who knows.

New Years... we are going to a party at a close friends house. She has 'THE' party every New years, so it's always a given that we are going over there.

No Scotch for me. I'm back to bourbon! (Just one cuz I'll be driving).
I went to our GD's Christmas play at church last weekend alone...pappy was home sick in bed with the flu. Tree is up, minimal outside decorations, 3/4's of gifts bought ( I'm sure I've mentioned somewhere I hate to shop ).
Bob has to work 3-11 Christmas eve & day, also NY eve & day.
There is a very slight chance he may get Christmas eve off but it's a long shot. Bah Hum-bug.
I think I will take my son to a little one room chapel, deep in the mountains, without electricity near Camp David for Christmas eve service.
It has always been the best part of the holiday season for me.
I'm with Kerry and Chris! :D I'm staying home! My son invited me to spend Xmas with him and his family in Calgary, but the truth is, I'm exhausted after the past year:packing, selling a house, buying another, moving, still not completely unpacked, new job, new garden, Merlin's rescue: I need to do absolutely nothing much except potter in the house, walk Willoughby, visit Merlin, read and watch TV. I'm off for two weeks, thank goodness. I have a turkey in the freezer but no tree this year. 8O I need to put stuff away, not take out anything else! I may write another story! :)
I'm going to my sister's house and she's cooking for the first time. We decided it was the year to give mom a break so that was why I did Thanksgiving. My sister's husband really liked my meal so he told my sister that they were going to have to step it up.

The best part is that I plan to bring all three dogs even though my sister said not to so that should be extra exciting! I've been telling her since she told us that they were having Christmas that I was bringing them so she knows it's coming. Her new house is close to 6000 square feet (and that's just the finished parts) so there's plenty of room.

I like making trouble.
We are having a low key Christmas too. It always is just family - but Todd's side is HUGE.

Christmas eve is at his one of his 6 brother's - should be about 40 or so. Family gift exchange, lots of food (potluck goodies) and visiting. Card playing too, but I don't get into that. They live about 30 miles away, so not a big drive.

Christmas morning was always our immediate family. Now that the kids are grown and moved out, we have changed a bit. We are going to Travis and Nicole's new house in the afternon. Squeezing it in between LeAnne and family being down at Keith's family in the morning, and and Travis at Nicole's family in the evening! Lisa decided not to come home from NY this year - so that is a 1st. It will seem weird without her here too.

I am kinda bah humbug - no decorations or tree. The dog situation has really dimmed my holiday enthusiasm this year. :(
We're not doing much this year. The boys get out of school on Friday so we're leaving that afternoon to go to Louisiana to visit ILs. Brandon's 6th birthday is on Saturday so we'll celebrate that. :-) Hard to believe my baby is turning 6. We're coming home on Monday. Wednesday, we're supposed to go over to my parents' house and my brother, his wife, and step-son will be there. Jason has to work Christmas Eve, Christmas day, day after Christmas, New Years Eve, and New Years Day so there's not much time for celebrating.

The boys will open gifts Christmas morning and spend the rest of the week fighting over their new toys. :P I'll be more than ready to send them to school on the 5th (but get sad and miss them when they're actually gone). The 5th also happens to be mine and hubby's anniversary. I'm REALLY hoping he manages to take that day off so we can get a day to ourselves (until 3 at least). :)
Welcome back Gail!! :D
