Music gift suggestions

I think I want to get my dad some music (CDs) for Christmas, but I don't know what. He likes a lot of classic rock (like Grateful Dead and Crosby Stills and Nash, etc). I want to expand and get him something else, but I can't really think of anything. I would say he'd like the more soft classic rock...

Everyone likes the blues! A lot of classic rock was directly influenced by the blues too, so your dad would probably appreciate it. I would suggest Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson.

And there's always itunes gift cards!
I was going to suggest itunes gift card as well. How about the Black Crowes, or Warren Haynes. The list can go on. What do you mean expand, get out of the classic rock mold? Santana album with all the guest artists not sure of album name. Earl Scruggs and Friends is another album where he brought in a lot of guest artists to play.
Santana album is called Supernatural
I would definitely say a gift card for music, whether its itunes or one from amazon.com or even walmart. If he doesn't have a computer, you could always sit down at one with him and pick out music together and burn it to a cd. I talked to my dad for about three hours one night while we hunted for music we had listened to while I was growing up. I was in Alaska and he was in Georgia, but it was the most fun we had had in years. Oh and one of the best things? He could listen to pieces of a song, and decide if he liked it, and could just pick songs instead of full albums...that way if only one or two songs on an album is good, you don't waste money on the rest of the cd. It would be a great way to introduce lots of new artists to him!
lol, my dad definitely has a computer! He's way more tech savvy than I am and has probably every gadget ever created. He's always been that way--always had to get the newest camcorder when we were growing up, newest camera...

Shon--I don't know what I meant! I guess I want to expand his artist collection and maybe steer him toward some artists that he either doesn't know about or doesn't listen to but would like. I named the Grateful Dead and CSN(&Y) as samples of the general mood of music he likes. I know he likes Santana. That's a good choice for sure!

Keep em coming! While I love iTunes gift cards, I do try to give actual gifts still, especially for my parents who think real gifts are better because they show more thought.
If you were really brave you could sit down and buy him some songs online and burn a cd....either songs you think he would like or songs that make you think of him or special times growing up. Definitely would be a present that came from the heart and took time and effort. And top it off with a gift card, lol, so he can pick out more music. Perhaps even an IOU saying you will sit down with him and help pick out music?
