Today, I'm embarressed to be from Illinois

Well, our 4th governor has been arrested by the Feds..and hauled off. Gov. Blagojevich was taken into custody this am for some really bad stuff. I have never liked him. He's always given me the "heeby geebies".

He's final stunt was to try and "sell" the open Senate seat Obama left behind.

How shameful our government officials are becoming.

define becoming? Illinois has a LOOOOONg history of corruption. sorry couldn't resist. maybe NY will get a little less spotlight now, although you have to admit our latest Gov scandal was a little more entertaining 8)
I lived in Chicago for 11 years during the end of the first Mayor Daley's reign (yes, I am that old!) and was astounded then as to not only the degree of corruption but also the fact that it was so openly known and tolerated. Personally I think all this is a legacy of his. That said, I'm not so confident any other states are much better off, sad to say.
I heard it on rush this morning. what a dimwit. funny he would try to seal the deal for a better job for himself and now he won't be able to get a job anywhere. bwahahaha...
Let's see, George Ryan is currently in prison. Dan Walker served less than 2 years of his 7 year sentence. He was let go early because he did pro bono work while in prison. Who had the shoebox full of money under the bed--Powell or Ogilvie?

For a midwest, relatively conservative state, Illinois has had pretty corrupt leadership. "Rod" has always struck me as a slimeball and I guess it's true. And as far as openly corrupt, Chicago was, is and probably will always be. But back in Daley Senior's day, the city really did work.
Walker and Ryan were two. The third was Otto Kerner, who was charged with bribery, tax evasion and fixing horse race dates, to get horse race association stocks at a reduced rate.

Fine history we have here. I'm glad I live in Lake County!!!!

And I don't care what people say, the machine is still alive and well in Chicago.

so daly never arrested? oh the ogod old days of political corruption. growing up in NYC I thought bribery was a way of life - as a giver not a taker :)

US Senate or State Senate?
US. And apparently there was a bill waiting for his signature to give Children's Memorial Hospital money. He wanted a "kickback" or he wasn't going to sign in.

Scumbag.
WOW! I sure missed out this morning!

If convicted he should go to jail for life.
Actually, the good people of Illinois have been given an early Christmas present.
You're right. Everyone has hated him for years. We all have known how crooked he is. I almost feel jubilant about this!
Isn't being corrupt a prerequisite for running for any government office?
I agree with wendy58

Ha ha ha!
I was shocked at his attempt in the Wrigley Stadium sale if the editorial staff of the Chicago Times was fired. LOL! Anybody check his meds?
Have you forgotten about Kwame :D Currently in jail for a laundry list of misdeeds. Part of his deal was that he would give up his law degree, now he is trying to get it back with some stupid sob story  . Funny thing is if eligible he probably would get reelected 8O
I heard the best yet this morning from Richard M. Daley (current mayor of Chicago): "this is so sad, if it's true." Huh? Of course it's true. Is the Daley Machine going to say that the tape is phony--someone was "impersonating" the governor? The slime was caught on tape offering a senate seat for money--as an attorney said "this is an almost impossible defense--the only tactic is to say it was taken out of context." Pretty much saying Helmet Hair is guilty and too bad so sad.

Scumbucket.
Now cable news is reporting that the 1st lady swears like a drunken sailor
I feel your pain, Deb....In Alaska, its getting easier to list the politicians that have NOT been convicted, or a least indited, in the past year than those that have

One of the issues we have being discussed in my town right now is whether to rename the Ted Steven's International Airport, now that he's a convicted felon.

cool 8) 8) 8)

See I don't find that unsettling.

Now another Assemblyman form NY indicted on selling his office - this is getting to be routine, that I find unsettling.
I just don't get how corruption can happen. (I do, really) But it just seems crazy that people vote for these people...are they either not corrupt when they are elected and then somehow become corrupt? Or do they hide their true intentions really well?
