Adult Food VS. Puppy Food

Has anyone here heard new articles being posted and some vets starting to change their opinions about:

1) when to stop giving your dog puppy food
2) giving puppy food at all?

I called Texas A&M vet school (one of the biggest and best) and they said several vets are beginning to change their mind about giving puppy food all together. Many of the conventions they go to across the country are starting to give this info. as well, they said.

When it was first needed, they said puppies were not receiving the sort of antiobiotics and nutrition they are now. That puppies are growing too much/too fast from it, and that they no longer think they need the added protein. This is if all other things are being check-marked (being vaccinated, vet says you have a healthy pup, etc).

Anyone else run across this? Thoughts?

I'm not surprised. The time for giving puppy food has shortened greatly over the last 35 years I've had dogs.

Assuming the bitch was in good condition and the transition to dry food goes well, I guess I'd only be worried about calcium and phosphorus levels. This doesn't mean I'd put a puppy on "El Cheapo" dog food, I'd still use a premium product keeping an eye on the protein level.
