What's the Weather where you are???

8O I just looked outside... and it is snowing like mad. It wasn't like that about 10 minutes ago when I got the mail... WOW. They are calling for lots of snow around areas here in upstate NY.

What about you??

What?! Must have been a different Virginia  No, that was a cold weekend. It gets cool here, but rarely 'cold'--like 30s during the day in the winter.
the low was in the 50's...the high is supposed to be low 70's

we havent turned the heat on yet.......but it is getting chilly in the house in the morning now.......the inside temp this morning when i got out of bed was 61...
It's cold here and flurries off and on to go with the piles already on the ground, I'm further north :D
We're having a "cold front," so around 56 I think. Yesterday 76. 8O
The thermometer in my car said we are at a balmy 13 degrees. At least that is ABOVE zero...................

Laurie and a chilly Oscar
COLD!!!!! It says 17 degrees here! Dogs love it..........I hate it!!!!!!!!
Hot and humid. Really sticky weather. I might go chase Bally around with the watering can, he likes that game
Just over 30 C yesterday, and summer is certainly on its way, time to clean the filters in the air conditioner ready for the heat. :P
Blue sky, won't quite make 50 today but will tomorrow and Sun, then bounce above and below 50 next week. Little to no chance of moisture....as usual. Haven't had but moisture in at least 7 weeks, except for a slight drizzle a week ago. dry, dry, dry.
Cold and dreary - been raining on and off for a few days which makes it feel colder. Heat is definitely on in the house, as it the wood pellet stove. It's supposed to snow "a bit" on Sunday so chances are we'll get a blizzard!!

The older I get, the more I HATE winter. But I like where I live and my house. Guess there's no happy medium here.
it's beach weather!......a high of 28 today .....need to put on the spf 40+ sunscreen :D
It's snowing like mad here!!!!!!!!! Loveland ski area, 30 minutes away has received 85+ inches in the last week. Crazy, went snowboarding Wed & Thur. Waist deep in most spots. Gotta love it, at least if your a ski bum.
:D Warmer than ususal here. November was mild with no snow. We've had two small falls of about 2-4 inches and it melts. Snow turns to rain. which becormes slush and freeezes  The mountain roads are a mess today and will be like that for a while. I have to postpone my trip to see Merlin. :(
SNOW the 4 letter word
Freaking cold (20's) in the Detroit area with light flurries.

Wow, good early season snow! Good thing the tunnel exists, the Sisters would be sliding on Loveland Pass for sure. It was always a fear in our pre-tunnel days. (used to live in Summit Co.) Hope the snows continue thru the season.

(sure glad I decided against coming up to Denver this weekend!)

Better described as "sucks."
Right now it's 18 with a wind chill of 9. It's just freakin' cold!
COLD~~ thermometer says 1 degree............ It is crispy outside! Even the dogs don't want to stay out.......
Too hot and muggy to sleep.I love Queensland but its Summers can be fun,its a pool full of noisy teenagers and wet towels everywhere and just waiting for them to leave so we adults can have the pool to ourselves!Went out and bought some fans today as I am using the air conditioning way too much. But its nice walking Summer the dog mornings and evenings and letting her swim down the waterfront, you can tell she is half labrador when she is in the water.
We had to take my daughter to her dentist in Miami(3 hrs south of here) Friday and it was sunny and 85 degrees there. Low 80's in our area, and the sun is usally out. :D 8)
yes lets hope the snow continues for the season. the storms are just sitting on top on Loveland and not really moving. Other ski places are getting snow as well but nothing like Loveland. Other resorts have a 20-25 inch base while Loveland is sitting @ 45-50 inch base. That is usually the base in January.
WOW.... this is what we woke up to this morning...

Baloo LOVES the snow. (I'm not so thrilled!)

I think I want to go to FLorida... or what about Hawaii.... From these posts Australia sounds wonderful right now!
AAAh what a lovely snow!!! I want one!

It started snowing here couple of days ago but it was more slippery wet horrible and dissappeared in some hours! Tonight I was told we will get -5 degrees and I'm c o l d !!!!!!!!!!!!

There is alreayy a hot water bottle in my bed!!! LOL :D
I haven't posted in ages, but whining about the weather is every Alaskan's solemn duty

cold....snow....cold...more snow...did I mention COLD???

We just returned home from a week in Juneau (for an art fair) and had to literally dig our truck out of it's space at long term parking. The dogs love it though, deep drifts for them to plow through is one of their favorite things!

I AM still around, by the way...just largely non-verbal these days  One of my new years resolutions is going to be to write on the forum more often...even if I have to dictate it to my husband!

Laurel it is good to hear from you again, even if it is to complain about the cold and snow in AK. We hope to hear from you more! Stay warm.
Have I ever mentioned how much I HATE, HATE, HATE winter!!!!! We bought a new snowblower this year because last year with all the snow we had the snowblower we had just wasn't working so hot. We bought a Toro, guarenteed to start with two pulls. Couldn't get the darn thing to start for nothing. Took it back and they said it was flooded. They got it running. Ok bring it back home and try to start it and again it won't start. Back again, and they say its flooded AGAIN. We are following the directions to the letter so how the heck can it be flooded. They take a look at it and say "Oh yeah there seems to be a problem but we can repair it". Its a NEW snowblower and it needs repair???? I don't think so. They call one of their other stores and they have one. Randy drives over to get that one brings it home and guess what. Thats right, it won't start. Back again! This time they too could not get it started.

Now for the really interesting part. The salesman say to Randy "We'll give you your money back and you can go somewhere else" 8O Randy says we've been coming here for 45yrs and you pull this crap on us?? He did end up getting a different kind of blower from them with electric start and brought that home. It won't start...till you put the key in. Learned that lesson the hard way.

Oh yeah...the driveway and sidewalks are now free of snow.

HOW wonderful to hear from you! Stop by more often to talk about someting besides this cold- cold weather :D
Its snowy and cold but I don't mind as at least George is clean (tough wet) when he comes back from his walks.
It's SNOWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay: :yay:

Think it'll last on the ground until Christmas??
Laurel! Good to hear from you!

Today is almost 70! 8O Tomorrow will be low 40s 8)
this morning it was 52 and I hung the christmas lights (in the dark) before work. they are predicting an ice storm for tomorrow - I'd rather have snow.
82 and sunny...rain tomorrow, highs in the 70's 8)
I didn't even see laurel's post!!!!!!!! Yes, you must post more!!! We'll be sure you keep that promise! I mean, even if it's just posts in the cooking section b/c we know how much your hubby likes to talk about food!!!!!!! We love you and your humor ;)

I miss the snow, but hear it's been snowing a lot up there!
Warm for us 54 degrees and raining, suppose to change to sleet & freezing rain for tonight and tommorow. I'd rather have a foot of snow than a drop of freezing rain

Scott (my hubby) just called to say he's snowed in in town  We have white-out conditions at the moment, so he'll probably just go hang out at a movie theater, or something until it clears, and the plows come through. I'll be sure to bug him to post some X-mas cooking stuff, Joah...he's already going berserk with it
After highs in the 70s on Monday, the front came through yesterday. High winds (made me think of where I grew up) made the 30 degrees feel much colder. We got some sleet last night, which had evaporated by rush hour. Today was a high in the upper 20's.
Yesterday was a high of 85, then front came and brought SNOW this morning 8O . Very light dusting, but we still get silly when we see it here.
Ugh... today's high will be a record and possibly hitting 80. We're buying swim trunks today.
temps have dropped today to a high of around 70 but sunny. 8)
70's.....85.... ??? Oh how I wish. I seriously have got to move to another state you guys.
This was our morning yesterday. Doesn't look any different today. *sigh*
Baloo looked like he was trying to tell me "MOM... Someone put all this white stuff in our POOL"
Image

Baloo is actually standing right on the edge of the pool, however the snow has filled in over the cover soo much that you can't see where the deck ends and the pool begins unless you are really familiar with our yard. It's like he 'knows' just where to walk and where to stop.
That's crazy. I'd be so afraid of falling in and no one being there. I'm dumb enough to do it. Anyway, I long for the snow. I roll my eyes when people wear jackets in 60 degree weather. Heck, they're wearing jackets at 70 here.

Mrs J, I was like you too, for the first 4 1/2 years we first moved to Florida. Then last winter I became one of those with the coats on at 60/70 degrees. I would even wear socks/gloves to bed. Of course I wasn't sure if this was related to the aftermath of my shingles, but I do get cold easier then I used to. I was told when I first moved here that in a few years I would be as cold as the all the other Floridians when the temps dipped to 70/60. They where right.
Not exactly on topic, but explain to me why when summer nite temps are 65 I'm fine w/o blanket, but come winter when house is 65 I'm in artic survival bed wear??

As for weather, I see Shon and Obe had a little blow the other day, 85 mph winds in Evergreen, Val and Maggie in Boulder probably had greater winds. Ali, wonder how she did? Ah, Colorado down slope winds..........
We just got a couple inches overnight. Hard to say the exact amt - it is windy and blowing all over. It now covers all the ice, so walking around my icy yard should be interesting. :(

I don't know if it is weather related, but a train derailed yesterday am close to our house. The tracks runs along the highway, and we can see both from the house, about 1/2 mile away. There are 4 grain cars on their sides/tops. They had huge spotlights and were working into the night last night. I guess trying to beat the storm heading in last night. The dogs were kind of freaked by the spotlights, they were shining right at our house. I hope they got it mostly done, as the wind and snow is blowing and would make cleanup pretty miserable.

I will have to check it out later when I go into my dentist appointment. :(
This is how the pool SHOULD look.... compared to Baloo standing on it in the (somewhere) above picture!!!

Image

He is standing right at the little straight edge there on the right side (up a little from the handle) in the snowy picture.
I would prefer the sunny warm weather and pool all year 'round... but alas... we live in northern New York.
You guys just wear your swimsuits and bask in the sun all you want~ I will pretend I am not jealous!
WOW... I have never actually seen a derailed train before. Spilled Grain? Wow what a mess to clean up!!
I would love to come over and go swimming and to be warm - if you lived in the south
his_armywife wrote:

Yes, it looked quite the mess. Todd said there was a train parked across the road crossing yesterday morning when he came home at 5am. Thought it was a bit odd. That must have been right after it happened.

I go the other direction to work, so I didn't notice it. Then as it got dark last evening, I saw the spotlights. Wondering what was going on, I went that way into town last evening to teach my training classes. That was when I saw what was going on. So, they had already been working all day trying to clean it up. And fix the track so trains can run again.
Thankfully it was just grain - or I bet we would have had to evacuate if it was a more dangerous substance. But, they have to clean it all up, as it would rot, ferment and be a nasty mess come spring. It is also right on a watershed area, so there all the environmental concerns as well.

I love your pool! Very fun and I would never be able to keep Chewie out of it! 8O How do you keep Baloo out???
Quote:
How do you keep Baloo out???

It's not hard to keep Baloo out... he is totally intimidated by it. He will go onto the first step only (the big chicken!) Even if his toy gets chucked into the water... NOPE, no way is he going to get it. He would rather just stand there forever looking all forlorn and stare at it.

Image

Image

Once we were all in the pool, he was on the top step & we tried coaxing him out into the water... He was not having any part of it. If he thinks we are going to splash even, he will go lay under the deck chairs. He's a big wuss. (but he will bark bark bark bark at the boys if they are horsing around in the water and never step one foot closer than he has to ...
Poor Baloo.......that's a sad picture.........come back little ball.
Our weather is very cold here, the last days we had -10 and my car didnt started anymore, luckily today it was just a bit warmer but still toooo cold! My bills are sooo high (Gas, Water & Electric we should pay around £260 per month!!!) and we only got a little 3 bed house with double glazing! Who can afford this horrendous bills??

PS: LOVE your pool!!! I come over for a visit in the summer LOL!! That pool would be my dream!!!
-10C is +15F, so that would be a warm winter day for us!

We got up to 21F today, so we were loving it!!! Almost warm enough for light jackets. 8)

OK, we do have a nasty wind, so it really wasn't as nice as it should have been.
Winter Storm warning here. Supposed to be up to 10" by Saturday late afternoon! I went to the grocery store this evening so we are set to stay inside. Good excuse to get my Christmas decorations down & away! Temps are dropping steadily too. Highs in the 20's right now & next Wed. our high is supposed to be 9 degrees! BRRRRR!!!!!!! The dogs are loving it! Can't keep them inside! They want out all the time!
Here are a couple train pictures I took today as I was driving home. Not the best - as the RR bed is high and the cars are on the far side of the tracks.
They are out there working STILL - the spotlights are on again tonight.
The 2 gray cars are on the tracks, and are being used for the cleanup. You can see on the right and left of them the train cars in the ditch.

As you can see, we don't have that much snow. I had lunch with a friend who lives in town, in the valley. She said we got about 4 inches overnight. Couldn't tell at our house - too windy. We had bare ground and foot tall drifts. :(
I had to run up north earlier today, great going up but nasty coming back. I was a few miles from home on pretty icy roads when I saw the aftermath of an accident. A full size pickup hit a cement wall and must have flipped, the entire truck was literally crushed. There was a covered body on the ground :(
OH That's horrible. Thank goodness you made it home.

This morning it is -11 outside. Baloo wanted out and it must be even too cold for him (he usually lloovves the snow and cold) because he was back inside in less than 2 mins. "Just long enough to do a quick business, mom."

I saw on the weather channel this morning about the bad weather coming to Clevland. BBRRRR
his_armywife wrote:

Well, it's here! In the mid 20's & snowing like crazy. It snowed most of yesterday ....little flakes. Slowed down over night. I left the dogs out at 4:45 AM (unusual for them to even think of waking up at that time 8O !) and not snowing then. By 6AM we heard the snow plow coming down the road. Jim just did the driveway & said we are at 6" right now. And the worst is supposed to come in during the day today. We are staying in today & making a BIG pot of chili! :)
I took these this morning. Since then, Jim has been out to use the snowblower & plow again & said he plowed another 3". He did at least 6" this morning before I took the pictures! Now we are getting a very fine "mist" of sleet (which should slow down the accumulation & make it nice & slippery 8O ) and then we are to get more snow! Ah! The joy of living in northeastern OH!

I'm going to blame the difference in humidity. It's dry in winter and feels cooler. Kind of like how when we go to Vegas and say "Oh, it was hot but it was a dry heat." LOL.

So pretty, and Jose may be looking in, but he doesn't look like he "wants in." Would be cool if there were doggy resorts. Mine would definitely choose to be at some ski resort in Aspen chasing all the skiers down the hills.
Our weather is gorgeous today. About 20 degrees, no wind and bright sunshine. :D

I had Riley and Chewie out playing with the daycare dogs at The Paw over the noon hour today. Myself and the daycare staff were both out in our hooded sweatshirts and not even a bit cold!!! :D :D A perfect day.
Todd just headed out to go ice fishing - hope we have fish for supper tonight. :D
I think it's finally stopped snowing in northern Illinois. Best guesstimate is 6 inches. I can deal with that, but not with the subzero temps that are predicted for next week!
Today we had a cold front come through ((chuckle)) The morning started out at 68 and the high was 60.
 This week it poured rain, temperature went up to 6 above, snow started to melt, with running water in the streets, then it all froze again. Now, we're expecting more snow today and tomorrow.
Just saw on the news that it was NEGATIVE 72 in Chicken, Alaska yesterday WITHOUT windchill.
Joahaeyo wrote:

It's cold again here. 9 with a windchill of -7. But luckily, we've missed on the last 2 snow storms predicted. One moved east of us & another stayed north of us. Just flurries right now. It warmed up last Sunday enough to melt the icicles, some of the ice on the drive & a bit of the snow. But the dog run is packed down so hard that it is still about 6 sinces of compacted snow. :(
It's still F*****ING freezing here in Chicago :excited: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -1 no wind chill!!!!!!
It is chilly today in the tropics....highs in the mid 60's. Cross fingers for a warm up soon....the sun is out though. 8)
They said in the radio that it will snow again tonight! Supposingly 8inch!! ... and I have to go to work tomorrow, so I'll have to wait and see!!?? :?: :?:
