Anyone remember how much their puppy weighed?

...when they came home?

How many weeks and how many lbs?
Looking for weights up to 12 months of age.

Just curious and comparing.
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
14.4 pounds at 8 weeks.

28.5 pounds at 12 weeks.

36 pounds at around 16 weeks.

50 pounds at almost 20 weeks.
Jill, that's not a puppy you got there......
Does he have hooves?

Things get big in my house. It's kind of like when you put a goldfish in a bigger bowl and it grows bigger? Well, except our house isn't super big and the dogs aren't fish. Maybe there's steroids in the water or something.
My guy is small then compared to yours. He's 10 and something and 8 wks.
Baloo at about 10 weeks weighed about 20 lbs
12 weeks... weighed 24.5 lbs
at a year weighed 80 lbs

funny dawn and I was just about to write that that sounded almost exactly like MOrgan's weights

I'll have to look Marley's up at home tonight and confirm Morgan's.
All of mine have been different weights... Dancer was the smallest at 8 lbs at 8 weeks, Tucker was the biggest at 16 lbs or so at 8 weeks.

I think the average is about 12 lbs at 8 weeks for most.
We got Barney when he was about 5 months old and I remember that he JUST made it under the limit for traveling at a certain weight, and I believe it was 50 pounds total, crate included, and I think the crate was 20 pounds, so he was 30? I'm sure I just made all that up 8)
My Luna was

11 lbs at 8 weeks

24 lbs at 12-13 weeks

39 lbs at 26 weeks
Fozzie was about 8 lbs at 8 wks
duffy weight at 12 weeks 15 i will tell you dreamers weight on wed.. when i get him
Our Winnie is now 17 weeks and weighs 28.1 lbs. She was 9.5 lbs at 8 weeks. I think she grows when she sleeps......
I think Obe was small at 8 wks 10lbs maybe, he was the runt. On our first visit to the vet he was 14lbs.
he does sound tiny compared to some of yours!! I guess when mommy has a litter of ALL boys (6 or 7?) ...she can only hold so much room in her belly ;) He wasn't the runt either. I think they all basically weighed the same with like 1-2 smaller. I don't remember exactly.
Walter was 28 lbs when we got him at 12.5 weeks. 90 lbs now!
Dutch was the runt of the litter
8 weeks - 7.6 lbs
15 - 25.7
6 mos. - 54.
Birth - 14 oz
8 weeks -13lbs, 9 oz.
4 months - 36lbs, 1 oz.
5 month weigh in next week!
Chauncey was 16 lbs @ 8 weeks
George was right at 20lbs at nine weeks.....he was a lard butt....the cutoff for his flight was 30lbs, so we were lucky, with the crate it was 29.5, if I am remembering right.
bear was 9lbs at 8wks
I just can't imagine some of the weights mentioned!! Mostly b/c mequpak is so dang hardy. Maybe b/c he's so compact and short in length ...he's so small. We keep telling ourselves that he does not feel 10lbs at all. He's heavy ...or we're weak, but considering I always have a 24 and a 32lb kid on my hip ...and two 11lb cats in the house, I'd like to think that's not the case!

Keep the weights coming! I don't know how some of you remember!!! I don't remember anything anymore.
Jo, I have a folder that I keep all the the records from the vet. On the outside of the folder I write the date of the visit, Chaunceys age and weight, and any thing important from that vist. It's sooooo much easier than digging through all the vet notes........Kathy
We got Archie at 4 months old, at his initial vet check over (with us) he was 22kg or 48 lbs in old money!
I think Nigel was 13 lbs at 8 weeks.
Finn was the runt too....
8 lbs at 8 weeks and upon weighing
today he is 44.6 lbs!
(almost six months)
I was looking at Quins records from previous owner
today and he was a whopping 86 pounds at 10 months 8O
Vienna:

11 weeks 22.8 lbs
15 weeks 37.2 lbs
19 weeks 46.2 lbs
24 weeks 55.4 lbs
just went to the vet my dreamer weighs 15.8 at 8weeks old
Okay, my guy just isn't going to be big.

At 12 wks, he's a healthy 16lbs. Mr. J and I thought you could feel his ribs TOO MUCH but my vet brought in another one today b/c I kept insisting his ribs came out too much and they both said he's at a perfect weight. Go figure! I'm feeding him the amount suggested for a 100lb (at maturity) dog too knowing he will most likely be in the category they have listed before it. Guess there's a lot of activity (probably avoiding toddlers) here in this house. 8)
that might not be enough food - I know as a puppy Beowulf ate a lot more than Morgan - even when he was only a few months old (and yes he was not 100 pounds then)

most foods have a puppy portion - or check with Doug.

Puppies should have a little fluff - at least before a growth spurt - sort of like kids tend to do also.
It is puppy food. Both brands I use, use a "weight at maturity" to determine how much to feed. :)
i think my dreamer is fat he wants to eat all the time he is now 10 wks and weighs 22 he eats like a horse duffy only weigh 15 at 12 wks and he is small at 68 pds
With puppies I just feed em til they're full. If the bowl gets empty I put more in, not one has ever gotten fat as a puppy. Only one of my dogs is a tiny bit chunky as an adult (they are all still free fed) and that is Panda. She just is kinda lazy I think, I wouldn't say she is really fat, just a bit chunkier than the others.
Hudson, our teacup sheepie was:

7 pounds at his first puppy shots (I don't recall how old he was, but it was on the record from the breeder's vet.)

When he arrived he was ten weeks and 12 pounds.

At six months he was 43 I believe.

8 months - 55

and now, at 9 and1/2 months he's just broken the 60 pound mark.
He's so very small when he stands beside our Portage (who is now down to 86 pounds at the age of 11). When Portage was a year old he was just under 100 pounds. He's lost lots of muscle tone in his back legs in his senior years. But he was an exceptionally big strong boy most of his life.
Our first Vet trip (the day after we picked our pupster up) he was 8 weeks and weighed in at 11.6 lbs. At 12 weeks he had almost doubled to 22.4. We will be taking him again in a few days at about 16 weeks, but he sure looks like he gained a good bit more. We walk almost 5 miles daily and he eats about 3 cups of Innova Puppy Formula a day.

We have always free fed without problems.
I just found Charlie's records...at 6 weeks, he weighed 10 lbs; 12 weeks, 26.8; 4 mos, 39.7; 5 mos, 51.5; 6mos, 63; 7 mos, 73. He's now 10.5 mos and weighs about 82 lbs. and stands 27.5" at the withers. He's HUGE by our dog standards...Libby is only 26"! I just checked his parents' stats, they were only 24" and 25.5" at the withers. I LOVE IT!! (Especially when he comes to sit on my lap--BIG lap dog!) :cheer:
dreamer just was at the vet and weigh in at 25.1 at 12 wks.. my vet just said ohhhhh my ..
I seriously think our dog is heavy, so I'd be in trouble picking up these other big oes' 8)

Thank you for saying this! I recommended to free feed to a poster once, as my breeder had told me to free feed, and the thread was flooded with other posters practically yelling about how horrible it is to free feed! They listed all these health reasons why I was wrong to suggest free feeding and how my dog would die from the health problems that come with free feeding. I thought I was doing something wrong, until I measured out her food for a few weeks and found that she never even ate over the required daily amount once, in fact she usually ate under the suggested serving size. I am just so glad to read that other people believe in free feeding too! I never worry about her food, I just make sure her bowl is full, it is so effortless. She also is great with all food and treats, I have never experienced food aggression. I totally recommend free feeding too.

Here on this board? I wonder if maybe people just misunderstood what you meant? I think free feeding food is fine but it's always a good idea to monitor how much food they eat even if you leave it out all the time. Just dumping food in a bowl every time it's empty (not insinuating that's what you did or said) can be disastrous for dogs that do like to overeat. You'll end up with a giant fatty.

My first OES was free fed and a picky eater at that until she hit about 4 and turned into a porker. Roughly around the time I spayed her, so maybe it was a metabolism issue. Anyway, if you only have one dog and she maintains a decent weight, by all means, free feed. Around here I'd have to have the doors widened to get them in and out

When a friend's rescue dog stays with me she's on the same schedule as my dogs and she eats right up right along with them. When she's home she's free fed and picks at her food. Probably because it's always available and there's no competition. Either way she doesn't have a weight issue. I just know that if I tried to free feed her around here she'd starve to death while I'd be going through 30 lb bags of food per day

Try six giant fatties! And I think I have a hard time fitting on my queen sized bed now... 8O

kristine
I have free fed 3 OES and 2 GSD and never had a fat dog or food guarding issues.
Bealla is a free feeder and as I recall she was about 10 pounds a month. Now at 2+ years she is a big girl at 75 -80 pounds. But definately not fat. Way too much energy to be fat,
We just finished our 16 wk appt and my cutiepatootie is barely hitting 24lbs. We still call him our big panda bear :)

...even if he can squeeze in the tiniest places.

ah we just did are 16wks and dreamer is 33 pounds
Owen is 26 weeks old today and he weighed in at 69.8 this morning-- that was before he had breakfast. :)

He's a big boy! Piper is 6 and a half months old, I'm not sure how much she weighs but she is already bigger than all of my other dogs. Not bulked up yet, and not as heavy as the adults but I'd say she weighs close to 60 lbs. I'm surprised, she seemed so small for months and in the last month has had a huge growth spurt.

He still seems so tiny compared to the big boys, though! I have to keep an eye on him and his eating. He steals food from the big guys when they aren't looking. We're at the point where I let him just eat all of Bear's food and then I take his bowl, dump it into Bear's and then stick Owen in his crate.

The funniest part is that Bear will just sit there and get upset about it but not do anything. He'll do a high pitched bark and then look at me like, "C'mon, are you going to stop him?"
Harley is 9 weeks old and he is 11 pounds
Kismet is 11 weeks,at 10 weeks the vet weighed her at 6.7kgs.(14.7 pounds). She was initially the largest pup in the litter but also the quietest and I dont think she fought to get her share of the food, she still stands back and looks surprised its all for her now.She weighed the least of the pups at 6 weeks,I am trying to find out what her littermates now weigh but she is growing daily, its amazing seeing her leave her crate of a morning, tail wagging madly, looking a bit bigger and longer and heavier each day.Its been a fair while since we had a sheepie pup and I have forgotten so much, like the "oomph" when I pick her up and carry her,its like SHE is the one putting in the effort. Its the same as the oomph they make when older when they flop down on the floor.
This is a fun one, I went ahead and looked back at Max's records and he was 16 lbs. at 8 weeks, 23 lbs. at 10-11 weeks. He was 42 lbs. at 4 mos. He is now 4 years old and weighd 120 lbs. He is not too fat, just gigantic!! Most people can't believe OES are so big.

what cute pics of your boy.. dreamer is now 45 pounds think they are the same age
harley is now 13 weeks and he is 25 pounds
DREAMER WAS AT THE VET TODAY AND WEIGHS 52 POUNDS AT 5 MONTHS OLD .DUFFY IS ONLY 66 POUNDS AT ONE YR
We had a Vet visit today and Bailee is 6 & 1/2 months and weighed 57.4 lbs.
Syd was 14oz born and Babette was 16oz. At 8 weeks both were around the 14kg mark.

Now just over 12 months Syd weighed in at 38kg's and still filling out 8O Babette is just on 29 kg's and we are trying to get a bit more weight on her, she burns it off so fast as she is one active bouncy kid. So Syd one of the smallest in weight born in the litter Mr. Oompa Loompa he is now, not pudgy just a solid heavy boned build on him. 8)

I'm expecting by the time he hits 18 months to be heavier again probably top the 40 kg mark. His dad was a chunky heavy man.

And here I was thinking he aint going to be all that big/heavy as some of the other boys, well I was wrong there.

Now all I need is a mobile crane to lift him 8)
Harley is now 17 weeks old and is 38 pounds...
dreamer is alomost 6 months and just weigh in at 61
My boy was supposed to be neutered monday, but I was too sick to take him, so I'll find out next week he weighs! I'm guessing 47'ish lbs but I could be off.

Joshee or Lil J?
Okay, I'm changing this thread to weights UP TO 12 months...that way I can have 1 thread w/all of mequpak's weights and can compare with others.

I thought he'd be heavier since he feels it, but the poor guy on an empty stomach weighed 44lbs at the vet today! 6 months.
Harley is now 4 1/2 months and he weighs 47 pounds...long way from 9 weeks and 9 pounds a few months ago

He has gotten big! When do we get to see updated photos of Harley? :)
Owen is almost 10 months now and he's 78 pounds.
Wow, I'm jealous of all these big dogs.

Then again, in some ways, I do want mine to stay small. Mine seems soooooooooooo big with lots of fluffy hair, so I can't imagine what it's like to be run over by one of your dogs.
Joahaeyo wrote:

Owen still seems so tiny to me, though, especially compared to the other two. I hope he stays within 10 pounds because I can easily lift him that way. Any heavier and I can still lift him but it gets a lot less easy!
I like the boys to be nice and big.... Leo at 12 weeks was 26 lbs, but now I'm sure he's well over 30, probably closer to 35 at 13.5 weeks

The girls are a big smaller but not a lot. The smallest girl leaves for her new home Monday, she's about 25 lbs now.
On another note... their weight at birth seems to have no effect on their eventual size... some of these pups were only 7 ounces at birth, I had never seen pups so tiny, but they thrived and now if you look at one pup who was 7 ounces and another who was more than three times that at birth (22 ounces) they look almost identical in size and were only half a pound apart at 12 weeks.

they are coming!!! I just weighed him today at 5 months...55 pounds
:lmt:
Hmph, I need to go weigh little(not so)Finn anymore!
He will be a year next month and I am guessing he is about 70 :?:
He is VERY tall!
On the other hand my little foster gal is almost 6 mos and she
is only 40 lbs BUT, I love it on her! :aww:
Weighed Langley on the WII board last night.

14 weeks and 24 lbs and scrappy! There is no fear in that lil guy.
I just weighted Monster Maddie yesterday on her 6th month B-day and she is 55 lbs. Her Mom and Dad are both about 89 lbs.
I just got an oes a couple months ago. She was 4 months when i adopted her and she weighed 28 lb. Now at 6 months she is 51 lbs. oh my gosh what a joy these dogs are. i have never had one or been around one, although i have other dogs. she was with a family that the child was allergic to her and i really didn't know what i was getting into. like i said though - what a joy.
Welcome to the community, and to Sheepie Antics!

I'm glad you're hanging in there and I hope we can help if you need it.
Welcome!
Welcome! The world of sheepies is, indeed, different than having other dogs. I have always owned dogs. This sheepie owns me, I think
Mine is now 9.5 months and only weighs 51 lbs. A small, or midget, sheepie to be sure. But packed with that attitude that only sheepies have. 8O
We ended up keeping a different boy than I had originally picked, Leo is off to his new home in Alberta, and his weight yesterday was about 33 lbs. Willy, the boy who I decided to keep, is about 37 lbs now (at 15 weeks) I think but I'm not sure how accurate my scale is. I'll know his exact weight when he goes for his last set of puppy shots on the 26th.
Harley is now 5 1/2 months and 61 pounds....
I was a bit off, Willy is 35 lbs at 16 weeks
I weighed Langley 30 lbs at 16 weeks. Not far behind.
Harley is now 6 months and is 67 pounds....growing quick...will have to post new pics of his new hair cut!!! just too funny/cute lookin...
dreamer is now 8 months old wow time flys he weights more then duffy 75 pounds and taller them him
anyone know how much longer they will continue to put the pounds on? is it a year? year and a half? I mean steadily put the pounds on...consistantly?

thanks
Maddie weighted in at 56lbs when she turned 6 months. She is 7 months now and I need to weight her. Was told by the breeder that I need to put some more weight on her. He checked her this weekend at her first show. So we are back up to 6 cups a day.
Yours eats like a monster compared to mine.
He'd rather have 6C of water over 1C of food.
LOL Maddie Eats well! She drinks well, she does everything well expect letting strangers or Judges touch her. But we are working on that as well.
I have no idea how much Willy weighs now but he seems to be almost as big as the girls, and definitely bigger than Dancer now.
He's 4 1/2 months and eats about 5 cups a day now, plus cookies LOL
He's going to his first sanction match on the 30th :) Another sanction match on the 3rd of July, and then his first real show July 31st when he turns 6 months :)
Langley weighs 38 lbs same age as Willy 4 1/2 months

He can sometimes eat a little over 4lbs of raw diet a day. Sometimes he just wants 3 lbs. he is a cookie fend!
I think Willy is only about 40 lbs... not sure though, weighing him on my scale never gives the same answer as the vet scale.
Bogey who is just a day short of 10 weeks weighed in at the vet this morning at 18.8 pounds. Wow. How big will he be?

Gigi who is 5 months - have not weighed her recently but i think she is around 40-43 pounds.
According to my scales (which never say the same as the vet) Willy is 47 lbs now, he's 5 months and one week old.
Lucky was 18.4 @ 8 weeks and at his 11 week 4 day checkup, he was 32.4 pounds.
The breeder and vet say he is going to be big, like his dad. His paws are really really big, not srue if that is an indication of how big he will be.
Bailee will be 10 months in another 3 daze and I'm almost afraid to find out how much he weighes. I estimate about 70 to 75 lbs but he is so HIGH! He looks even at our table top and kitchen counters. Doesn't have to stretch to see what is there that he shouldn't get. He is not heavy, actually lean and muscular, but also very tall. Exceptionally strong also. It is tough to win a tug-a-war game with him and his favorite rope or blue ball.
George Michael is 6 months and an even 50 lbs. His paws are huge too!
Finn now at 12 months is 75 and Georgie girl at 7 months is 52!!
She can sure kick some boy butt though! :P

I have 4 dogs that I free feed. A poodle, yorkie, golden retriever and OES. They all eat out of the same bowl and not one of them is fat.
I have a 12 year old Bichon that has always been free fed..He is not fat at all. It seems hard to keep food out for Lucky though, he drinks so much water that it all drips into the food bowl. How do you all handle that? Do you just let it stay wet??

Sorry, I don't meant to highjack this thread...maybe I should post that question on a new one?

I haven't noticed the food getting wet. What I HAVE noticed is that Lola LOVES to drop her ball in the water dish and fish it out, along with a couple of cups of water...OY! :twitch:
ha ha that is so funny. If a piece of food...and I mean a little teeny piece of food, drops into the water bowl Lucky will nose dive for it. Literally, you can hear the water bubbles like he is blowing out the air so he can dunk his entire head into the water...so funny, but ummmm really messy. Love my bear like doggie!!!

For us, we never put more than 1/4-1/2" of water in their bowls, but I am home all the time so I have time to refill. They let me know when and if they need water. Otherwise, I just give it to them periodically throughout the day. No dripping beards!

ETA: Oh, and I used to put the small dog (maltese) somewhere the big dog couldn't reach. Under a chair, upstairs, etc. Eventually she got the picture not to touch it.
Harley was 7 months at the beginning of july and he weighed in at 75 pounds...
Gigi is now six months and weighed in today at 45 pounds.
Bogey is 12 weeks and is 28 pounds.
dreamer is 9 months old and weighs 80 fatty boy lol duffy only weighs 75
Willy is 6 months old next week and is 57 lbs as of today.
wow, Katie is a little girl. 12 months and 60#

She looks like she's about 80 though.
10 months and my big muscular boy is still small. ;)

He hasn't eaten in 1.5 days b/c of diarrhea, so he may weigh few more pounds but the scale at the vet said 55lbs (kept going from 54-57 b/c he wouldn't stay still).
Henry:
17 pounds at 9 weeks
26 pounds at 13 weeks
37 pounds at 17 weeks

Gigi at 6 1/2 months is 47.2 pounds. will see what bogey is this week. he is a chubby one,
bogey weighed in today at 3 1/2 months 37.2 pounds.
The Bogster is indeed a plump young fellow. Our Bailee is 11 months and is about 70-75 lbs. He weighed about 22 or 23 lbs at 3 months. Your guy is a lot bigger than that. WOW! "Keep the grub coming Ma, I'm still hungry!"
Lucky goes in today at 3:00....can't wait to see how much he's grown. He was 4 months old on the 12th...I'll post results later today :D
Lucky weighed in at 56.2 pounds at 4 months, 1 week old. He got quite big huh??
What are you feeding that guy!
it's funny because even though he weighs a lot, he isn't "heavy"....in fact I was concerned because you can feel his ribs and bones like he was underweight....the vet says he's fine. So I'm going to put my momma hat away and not worry!! :|
Oh did I mention how handsome he is???????
I just LOVE him. He is so adorable with his big ol' head and paws!!!!
Harley is almost 9 months and weighed in at 80 pounds at the vet...
the bogster is a big boy. i just cannot imagine how big he will be. his legs and paws are huge. will keep you posted. i don't overfeed him. he is on canidae. no extra treats. his line is not huge. we will see.

Update on Henry:

48 pounds at 5 months
58 pounds at 6 months

He's been gaining 10 pounds a month. For some reason, I feel very proud of his steady growth. I wonder how long he will keep it up. He looks like a little tank next to my skinny Maggie but I can feel his ribs so I know he is not fat.
Harley is at 10 months and weighs 83 pounds...
Owen is 15 months old and has been steady at 76.2 for about 3/4 months now. Yes, .2-- he's pretty consistent!
Harry is growing fast. Any rule of thumb how big they will get, parents were 75 and 85lbs. He is eating Purina pro plan large breed puppy food. When do you have to worry they are growing to fast.

Bogey was weighed this morning at the vet and is 70 pounds at 7 months. Is he going to be more than 100? I don't over feed him and he gets a lot of exercise.
ha bogey i think all the weight is in his neck lol he might be dreamer at 12 months is almost 100 but it is all in his legs
AWWWW....my Finnie is almost 16months now and about 75 pounds...
I never thought he would be this big!
