dog sledding weekend

I am moving this from advanced training to see if some are interested in setting up a play date - well sort of:

I don't have my own sled - and I covet Linda and Donaven's awesome, handmade one. It is very nice. Beautiful too. I have searched for sleds - on ebay and other sites. All I have found are old ones damaged beyond repair and little kick sleds that Donaven calls "death traps".

Oh, bah humbug! I think the sleds I've been looking at (there are a couple in decent shape in the TW/St Paul craig's list) are more along those lines. Pictures of minimally acceptable sleds, please!

If there is ever enough interest, maybe we can put something together somewhat centrally to the Midwest/North East where the greatest interest seems to be at the moment - say maybe Michigan? or we can all trek up to Dawn's and have a joint herding/sledding seminar. Hm!

I need to survive December first before I can plan for March!!! 8)

Although it will be interesting to see what Dawn has to say about it.

she is wondering (see the original site of this post in advanced behaviors) why there aren't more than three of us interested! okay paraphrasing a bit....
i live in il im intrested but have no sled willing to borrow or watch as long as my dog gets to play. Debbie and moon ray love the snow. :D
Yay, another volunteer!

It is great fun. I have only gotten a little bruised up...forgot where the brake was and hit a parked snowmobile.....
yes me and moon ray are in when and where cause my sheepie loves the snow and can hoof it for miles as long as his nose doesn't freezze or mine
keep me posted address is po box 37 Marseilles Il 61341 cell 708-519-0543 Debbie and moon ray
We are in Michigan and this is something I might be interested in. Where would I get a sled and how would I know what to look for?
Interested is good enough for now
Sleds are the hard part. :(

If you want to start, a harness and some simple pulling is the way to go to get started. Getting the dog used to a harness comes 1st, and walking/pulling in front of you is next.

I like the x-back sled harnesses, they seem to fit an OES body shape. Any sled dog site has them.

I agree Morgan (the mamoth) took to his Xback right away. of course I aso put a strange weight pull harness on hime and made him pull a cart - something he had never done before, so maybe he is just easy.
was kind of thinking to get them to pull a snowplow, and a rototiller. while i just sit in a chair sipping hot chocolate or iced tea, depending on the implement they are using...
