Lets talk TURKEY

1) how many coming to dinner.
2) how big of a turkey do you have.
3) how do you cook your turkey.
4) what temp. is your oven.
5) some start on a very high temp then lower for the rest. And You?
6) do you buy a fresh or frozen turkey.
7) is there a real difference in fresh. WHAT is it.
8) do you buy more than 1 turkey when they are on sale.
9) what are your best side dishes.
10) and last what do you serve after dinner.

1. 5 (at noon, then going to a big gathering in the evening)
2. 16lbs
3. Oven/Roast
4. 400degrees for the first hour then 325 till done
5. start high then lower
6. Frozen
7. have bought both, don't remember there being a difference
8. No, not enough storage space
9. Any side dish :)
10. Cake, Pies, Cookies and Candy
1. Just 2 of us (husbands lives for the left-overs so won't go out or to friends.)

5. stay the same, browns nicely
6. frozen
7. non frozen is juicer as freezing hasn't damaged cells, but not enough for me to justify the cost.
8. I wanted to but just no room. Have in past but why? We prefer something else for Christmas.
9. I will NOT do the green bean casserole. I prefer broccoli with boursin cheese casserole. Mashed spuds only, no yams (we eat them at least once a week during year), dressing/gravy and salad. Oh, and of course main reason hubby likes T-giving......cranberries.

3) Hubby deep fries it now. used to roast it.
4) not in the oven anymore. Used to be 325.
5) when roasting I just set one temp and basted off and on all day till done.
6) frozen and always looking for the best sale price!
7) never gotten a fresh one...
8 I have in the past. We now prefer ham at Christmas instead of more turney.
9) I love Cranberries! I make a great fresh cranberry orange salad. Always sweet potatoes, asparagus, rolls, my mom's jello salad, stuffing... the usuals.
10) Any dessert will do! :lol: Hubby loves pecan pie. The boys like peanut butter pie and daughter always hogs the cookies.

7) I worked in a meat dept. years ago. "fresh" turkey were the same as frozen except we "thawed" them for the customers & charged them more!

2) how big of a turkey do you have? 20LBS, I LOVE THE LEFT OVERS TOO

3) how do you cook your turkey? IN AN OLD ROASTING OVEN IN THE GARAGE, THE SAME OVEN MY MOM USED FOR ALL OF OUR TURKEYS, STILL WORKS, LAST YEAR WE REPLACED THE CORD. I GET UP FIRST THING IN THE AM AND START THE STUFFING, STUFF THE BIRD AND GET IT IN THE ROASTER, THEN I SALIVATE ALL DAY AS IT COOKS. YUMMO

5) some start on a very high temp then lower for the rest. And You? NO, SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE AND MAKES A MOIST TURKEY

6) do you buy a fresh or frozen turkey? FROZEN.. DEFROSTING AS WE SPEAK

7) is there a real difference in fresh. WHAT is it? DON'T KNOW, I HAVE ALWAYS PURCHASED A FROZEN BIRD

8) do you buy more than 1 turkey when they are on sale? NO, NO PLACE TO STORE THEM OR I WOULD

9) what are your best side dishes? I MAKE THE TRADITIONAL MASHERS AND GREEN BEANS, THIS YEAR IM ADDING FRESH BEETS AND ROASTED ROOT VEGGIES TO THE MIX

10) and last what do you serve after dinner? FRESH COFFEE AND EITHER PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE OR PUMPKIN PIE CRUNCH
