They sell sweat pants at Ann Taylor? :o
Wow, for a newbie ...you sure stay on top of things. I actually just started to shop there and my husband asked the SAME question when I walked in from the store this past weekend. He asked how many sweatpants I bought. ...to tell him that I bought my Christmas party dress there! 3 actually. I'll post pics if I ever remember to take one. I haven't worn a dress since my wedding day and before that...maybe when I was forced as a child to wear one at church!

BTW, I did look for sweats at Gap.
Don't forget, we want those party dress pictures. You've shown us your pregnant belly and your underdeveloped rear, we want to see the rest, expecting great things! Long and lean, you will look great in a party dress.
Yeah, definitely follow the link. There's a lot more clarification on some of those. I was surprised to see Pacific Sunwear on there since it's such a popular mecca for non surfing midwest kids. Upon looking at the snopes list, I see it's their dumpy d.e.m.o. line that they're closing down.

Most of the rest of those stores were kind of junk stores as it was. The good ones, luckily, are just dropping some stores rather than shutting down.
In the article I didn't see any details on the Linens-n-Things stores... but I know they are closing the one by my sister in Va. She was very disappointed, and went and bought all the rest of the dinner place settings they had that matched her set.
I was surprised by some of the stores listed. So I pulled up "news" on one of the stores and got the following information on a Fox affiliate in South Dakota

E-mail Warning Shoppers of Closing Stores is Bogus
Posted: Nov 19, 2008 06:29 PM CST

A bogus e-mail about a number of well-known businesses closing is landing in inboxes all over the city. Reporter Samantha Suttle clears up the confusion.

On Wednesday, I called more than a dozen local stores and they all had the same response: "Where is this coming from?"

The e-mails in question alert shoppers of businesses that are closing or are scheduled to close. The e-mail suggests you not use credit cards at the listed stores or buy gift cards there either. It claims the gift cards will not be honored after the holidays. However, many of the managers at these Sioux City stores say this information is simply not true and is damaging to business. Some of the stores listed include Eddie Bauer, Talbots, J. Jill, Sprint/Nextel, Home Depot and JCPenney.

The Talbot and J. Jill companies have even issued a statement: "We do not plan to close all Talbots and J. Jill brand stores and there is absolutely no concern in buying a gift card from either brand this holiday season... Talbots and J. Jill remain open in Sioux City at Lakeport Commons."

So the best advice I came across -- don't believe everything you read.

And on a Massachusetts station:

Quote:
Much of the information in the e-mail is outdated, and some of it contains inflated and flatly erroneous claims about store closings.

For example, it mentions that Ann Taylor would be closing 117 stores nationwide. However, that series of closings was announced nearly 11 months ago, in January 2008, as part of a corporatewide restructuring. The local store, in Rockingham Mall in Salem, N.H., is not closing, according to a clerk at the store. A corporate spokeswoman did not return calls.

Just something to keep in mind. The list/information may not be entirely accurate.
It's true about the Linens-N-Things, at least in my area. The one by me is having a going out of business sale--I'm upset because things are only up to 40% off. Come on, give us a bigger bargain.

Oh, and Cicuit City is headquartered here in Richmond. It's pretty sad, really, since it was such a big employer and SO many people have been laid off. It was one of 'the' places to work in town.

As for lots of the other stores, if you think about it, closing X amount of stores nationwide usually doesn't mean much. Think about how many Gap stores there are in the country. If a few close, it won't even make a dent.
also I got an email from square trade to day encouraging people to shop at circuit city and buy warranties at square trade so even stores with issues can offer good deals and safe buys.
Yes! Good idea! Even though Cicuit City has declared bankruptcy, they're not giving in yet, so please don't ignore them and go to Best Buy if you usually shop there...
Linens N Things is definitely closing all of their stores. The company I work for sold product to them. They couldn't compete with Bed Bath & Beyond.
Sorry about the loss of a customer (I hope they didn't/don't owe you guys too much.).

Was there really any difference between those two stores? I really couldn't tell them apart, even their ads and perpetual 20% off coupons were indistinguishable to me.
