Where do I get oil for my deep fat fryer?

I know I've talked about this several times over the last few years, but now I'd like to know where to get the gallons of oil for my deep fat fryer to cook my turkey?

The oil seems very expensive! It might cost $50 just to cook a turkey!

Sam's has it, you could try resteraunt supply/distributers also.
I got mine at wal-mart. I needed 28 qts. the thing to to is drain it after you use it by putting it back in the same container. Make sure to strain. DO NOT STORE THE OIL IN THE FRYER. It should last about a year or more if you keep track of how many times I use it. Mine came from QVC.
(of course) Its electric. What did you get?
I paid 47.00 for it, You have to use peanut oil -I think you know that.
I saw some at walmart as well but as you said ...they're expensive. My mom says they are more than half off after Christmas, so she buys them for me then.
That sounded wrong as I put it. I paid 47.00 for the oil!!!!!! The Masterbuilt fryer was 97.50 Sorry If I confused you
The oil will cost about $50.00. I get ours at a local "big box" store (it's like Costco and Sam's) or you can try a local restaurant supply store.

The oil will keep 3 months, if strained and stored in the fridge. NOT A YEAR, according to my local Cooperative extension. Anythying onger and you will be cooking with "bad oil".

In the past we have used our oil for Thanksgiving, double strained it (through cheesecllth filters) stored it in the fridge and used it again a time or two over the holidays. I wouldn't keep it over three months or use it more than 3 or 4 times.
Genny, I was told by the QCV rep that it can be used up to a year. Its on TV rifgt now. Lets hear what he now says.. They said peanut oil will last a year depending how often you use it. Its just like my regular deep fryer. I change the oil only when I watch how long it takes to heat. It is hard to store a 28 QT container in the frig but I can put it in my freezer. Thats what the REP said on air and the QVC rep.
I don't know if there is a difference in storage and times used between the reg veg oil and peanut oil. I know that they do recomend the peanut oil.
Well, I am sure the QVC sales person doesn't know alot about food safety.

Cornell Cooperative extension recommends saving well strained oil no more than 3 months, and only if stored in a tightly sealed container. Each time oil is used and heated to the correct temperature it degrads a bit, and even with straining bits of food remain in the oil. It will not heat as well and will not taste as well if used too many times or stored too long.

Cabella's states that oil can be saved for 6 months, but that is longest I have been able to find.

We have been using a turkey fyer since they first came out (about 10 years ago) and are currently on ourthird. After about the third or fouth turkey (or other meat: we have done pork roasts, venison roasts and even a prime rib) the oil gets an odd taste to it. I don't eat beef or pork so I have to take Doug's word on the taste and he claims that over using the oil or keeping it too long ruins the meat.

Our Fire Department uses them for fund raisers and have even done chicken wings in them. Last Fall we did turkeys for a Fall banquet and they tried to save the oil for a spring event since it had only been used once. When the oil was heated for the second time in the spring it had a rancid smell to it and we discarded it.

So, use it for a year if you like but we discard ours after 3 months.
Hubby buys the Peanut Oil at Home Depot.
