Ooooooooh no!!!

The rundown:

I have a dog and a cat.

I told everyone the mother-in-law wants me to watch her dog while they're in Hawaii

You know I'm getting a new furkid OES Fri or Sat.

Well........ my sister-in-laws 22lb Shih Tzu is being put down tomorrow. :(
They are going up to the Lawton Oklahoma area to pick up a new dog Tuesday. They need someone to watch their 8lb Shih-tzu for 5 days. So, that would be me. They all know I am animal crazy.

Talk about a crazy house.
Her Shih tzu toots on me whenever I try to pick her up. hahahahha She loves EVERYONE ...but me. I also try THE HARDEST to get to know her, play, and pay attn. to her.

My cat, btw, does not like dogs (like most cats, it takes her a few weeks to adjust), so she will be in for a treat! :D She's weird though and sometimes asking for it. She doesn't like when I bring in dogs from the street, but is ALWAYS up in their business or running up from behind, grabbing their back paw/leg, and RUNNING FOR IT. You'd think she was playing, but if I bring them close, she hits ME, and then jumps out of my arms. She's so sweet. (sarcasm) She's just so curious. I'll have to love on her a lot. Oh, did I mention she likes to steal dog bones so other dogs can't find them? It's not like she eats, plays, or enjoys them. She's pure evil I tell ya. ;)

edit: I'm mistaken!!! Sister-in-law just wrote me back and she IS getting the new dog on Tuesday, but she needs me to watch BOTH HER new dog and her existing dog the 29th of this month.

This means ALL dogs will be present.

Comet and Cupid (both shih-tzus)
Mils corgi mix
my THREE furbabies in my avatar.

Wow. 6 animals in my house. If it's the 29th, I will definitely take pics of this.

Jo,
Two words...good luck  !
hah. my mom has a headache.

2 won't be potty trained (my OES + her new puppy)
1 may kill cats (mother in law's dog)
1 shih tzu is a scaredy-cat of anything that moves
my dog isn't too different from the shih tzu.
Do you have crates and baby gates handy to keep them all separated?(if you need to) Lots of socialization is good for a puppy, but you don't want your pups first experiences with other dogs to be a bad one, or the pup may grow up thinking all experiences with new dogs are bad.... not trying to burst your bubble, but these first weeks are SO vitally important to your dogs psyche for life. Every day counts, every experience makes a huge impact. They learn more between 7 and 12 weeks than at any other time in their lives.....
You should also make sure that all the animals are vaccinated before going around 2 new puppies. Is there still only one cat or will there also be another one? If there is another cat meeting Chloe and one goes outside and one stays in, I would keep them separated.

Good luck to you! I have a house full, it isn't too bad...LOL

Stormi and co.
I agree.

mother-in-laws dog, my dog, sil's old dog all get along.

2 new dogs - not sure how they will react. obviously they will want to play A LOT, but the 3 above dogs like to be left alone. that is how the above get along.

the cat will have to be separated no matter what. too much on the poor thing and potential for something bad (just with mil's dog).

what i'm really concerned about is the cat. i truly trust the others will be fine together and NEVER left alone. fwiw, they HAVE been left alone together and did great. they go in separate corners and sleep.

i just, as you said, wanted the new dog and cat to socialize. they are the most important to me (and my dog of course).

i was thinking of putting my new dog in a crate at night and my dog and cat sleeping in the bed with me as usual. closed door. no one else. this will allow my cat to have "me" time and investigate who she is afraid of without the happy puppy getting too close for comfort.

the cat's problem is she gets TOO CLOSE. she likes to touch everything (over and over again) but if you touch her (human OR animal), she's like WHO ARE YOU!!!!!!!! SCREAMS and then runs for it. lol

I will have to get up every few hours to let the new puppy out of the crate, so this will give me a chance to check on the other 2 dogs (who do fine together and at night).

I will also try to spend a few hours (4-6 a.m.) sleeping with the 2 dogs outside. the herding dog is a rescue so is extremely emotional/sensitive (never bit ANYONE...just is shy). the other dog just toots on me (more times than i can remember), and it is my goal to make her like me.

I just exhaled. lol I didn't know what I was saying yes to. hehe ...I love them all so much. I hope it's not as bad as I think. For all I know, the mil's dog LIKES cats (the only concern). I just don't know.

I DO know her dog went chasing after a bear one time (the mil's dog), so i just "assumed" she would do the same w/a cat.
everyone spoils their dog to the same degree i do, so everyone is vaccinated. my new dog just needs her last round of shots which i can have done before the "other dogs" come in the house. the sil's new puppy will only be going on weewee pads inside, so she should be good.

edit: i'm laughing because I was just thinking "if" i can get her to go on the wee wee pads. ;)

oh, yes...i have several crates. teeny one, small one, medium one, getting new one, and one made for great danes (but it's very dirty and in the shed...sommmmmmmmme where)
Stormi, what's funny is ....just the other day I was telling you I wish I had a full house. lol ...just didn't expect it to be all at once and under these conditions. hehhe

at least 2 of them are only staying for 5 days. 1 of those 2 is very tiny (probably 2lbs) and will probably sleep MOST of the day and the other tries not to bother anyone.
DO know her dog went chasing after a bear one time (the mil's dog), so i just "assumed" she would do the same w/a cat.

Bear???? Where?
HAHAHHAHA!!! your username cracks me up.

Yeah, she has a summer home in Virginia (near the woods). She said she was SCREAMING for her dog to come back, but her dog just went after it barking. I REALLY (honestly) don't think she was doing anything other than trying to get the bear away from my MIL.
There are places around w/o bear scares. Having said that, we have sharks...
Some good news.

email from sister-in-law and her new puppy and the dog I was worried about (herding dog/corgi mix) are best friends. she runs to the puppy whenever it cries and licks him.

her other dog is scared of the new puppy and stays away. hehe this is what we expected though. her other dog is very independent and just wants to be held by mom and dad. never bites (okay, unless you're dumb like me and make quacking sounds right against her ear/face nonstop after she's tried to get away from you several times...she snapped in the air at me once, but normally doesn't. i'm also the one she toots on, so i think it's just me. lol).

the corgi mix (she's really not as dangerous as i make it sound):

Update: First day with another dog in the house. The cat actually loves the dog I thought would be evil. Mostly because she's so submissive... I ASSUME the cat feels there's no threat. She still beats up Yuki though when she's not looking. lol

The other TWO dogs, hehehe, come Sat to stay for 5 days. The one on the picture is staying for 2 wks. She's great though because she is teaching Yuki how to walk on a leash and that you have to play nice. :D
Awwww... so cute. Yuki looks like she wants to play.
AWWWW! All the pics are so cute! I have to say the very last one is my FAVORITE though! She is so darn cute in that last one. I agree with Stacey, she is ready to play with the big dogs...LOL
Give her a great big hug for me.

Stormi and co.
Aaack- how more ridiculously cute can one puppy be!!!! Isn't it nice when the older one can show the little 'un the ropes? It worked so well with Bell and Iris!

Kisses Yuki!

Karen :)
the whole gang is here now which includes my folks! We're making it a movie and pizza night. It's so funny to see the big dogs try to sleep in the little puppy's bed and the puppy want the bed that's made for a dog the size of a golden retriever. lovin' it!!!

my sister in law's new puppy is the cutest!!! she can only walk a few steps before slipping all over the tile. she thinks she's a huge dog though. her other dog has not left my mom's lap and I'm sure she won't the rest of the evening!
