How to pick a new perfume

I have been wearing Clinique Aromatics for close to 20 years, and feel like its time for a change.

I don't even know how to start! It use to be, that perfume companies made little bottles with samples. Not anymore. In stores all you can do is try the tester...and you really can't make a snap judgement about the fragrance...because it will change over time. And....in a store you usually try several...which ultimately confuses me terribly!

So...how do I find a new fragrance?

id find out what you like about the clinique....

''the flavor"....what is the underlying aroma....roses, lemon, etc....then ask what other fragrances have similar ingredients...

i like really green fragrances...my signature is Caylx by perscriptives...but i also like channel 19 and gucci 2.....smell very different but have the same clean smell........
its a process for me - i try one on one arm and one on the other (after sniff tests) and wear it for at least an hour before I make up my mind if its a possiility. it can go on for weeks. I am in the process again. I also let my daughter know I am looking and she usually has a few ideas for me to try.
I'm like kerry!!! I try something while at the mall, and wear it for the entire day. That's the only way I know whether I'm going to choke and hate it or not. I go off recommendations from others until I find the one for me.

I wear philosophy falling in love. So soft. You'd need a different one for evenings though. MIL wears philosophy hope.
I changed this year too. I was also was a (Gucci #2) for so many years. One Sunday we got samples of Esterlauder ( Beautiful) I fell in love with the smell. I rubbed it on my arm and kept the sample in my purse. After a week or so I new I had a new perfume!!!
i use clinique happy during the summer and their simply during the winter i can't change coz it upsets the hubbys alergies so thats how i choose mine

its like here does this make you sneeze ? no! fine i like it too this one will do

A lot of times, they do still have little samples behind the counter but you have to ask for them. They don't hand a bunch out like candy anymore, though! You get one if you're lucky!

My mom works in cosmetics and I have bags upon bags of samples of everything. Next time there's an event, I'll send some of my stash over.

That would be great!!!! Thanks!
I love Beautiful and Eternity. My sister always smells lovely people compliment her on her perfume. Its Avon Far Away! She layers it though and it lasts all day!
I really love Marc Jacobs Daisy. I tried it for obvious reasons  and really love it. I can't smell it on myself at all but people often ask me what perfume I'm wearing and comment that its really nice!
Jo Malone has really clean smelling scents...
I am such simple girl!

If I wear anything it is Egyptian Musk
(by some hippie at any flea market!)
I am sure none of you are running out to your
nearest flea market tomorrow! :)

Good luck with the new sent Deb!
My friend and I go perfume sniffing quite often. We spray different ones on different body parts and walk around, the bad thing is, we either run out of places to try it out on, or forget exactly which one is where, lol. I went from having one bottle of perfume (estee lauder pleasures exotic) to ten.....all quite different. My current favorites are Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and Vera Wang Truly Pink. Both bought on Ebay, in original packaging, for less than $25 a piece. Together in the department stores they would be $200. Needless to say, I am a bargain shopper. I go sniff, write down my favorites after wearing them for a while, then come home and price compare. Good luck!
I think vera wang smells wonderful!
oops wrong Gucci It was #3

My husband wears Vera Wang for me. I used to wear Paloma Picasso and loved it. My kids told me it smelled to manly...but I liked it. It was a very heady fragrance.

That's what I've been wearing too! I get compliments all the time.

For night/fancy events I wear Prada, and my all time favorite go-to is Chanel Allure.
I purchase perfume oils and mix them myself. I normally keep to the same base, but alter it a bit for a change from season to season.
Walk by me and see if I sneeze. Then you'll know you picked the wrong one. :D
I wear Karma by Lush....

I just read about their sweet lime today - I think I will be looking for it if I ever get to a mall again....
My favourite at the moment is dolce & gabanna Light blue, I change my perfume quite often. they are my weakness. I also find I can smell a certain perfume it can remind of that particular time in my life music does to. So its like a trip down memory lane.
I like a clean smell too. My new favorite is "Pure Grace" by Philosophy.
I don't wear it often - I am not allowed to wear perfume as a nurse as it offends many ill patients.

One I like that is very light and fun is Victoria Secret's Pink - Sweet and Tart. I have the body mist, I used up all the lotion. :(
If I go perfume shopping, I find nothing. Its when I'm not looking that I find something I like!

Right now, on the "fragrance shelf" I have:

"Chance" by Chanel and something called "Vertigo". Both were sprayed on me as I walked through Nordstrom's and I loved them. I also have "Woman" by Ted Baker of London; I got that while in London. I was looking for a souvenir, and it was so nice! Lastly, I have "Petit Cherie" by Annick Goutal; my mother sent it to me for Christmas a few years ago, and its lovely.
I found it! I finally found it!!!! It's Donna Karan Cashmire Mist!!! ITS ME AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you smelled "Amazing Grace" by Philosophy? I keep hearing about it, but haven't been to a perfume counter in forever to try it!
