Does colder air turbo charge your sheepie?

This last week or so, here in the UK we have had some cooler air, down to around 0 Celcius at night.

With a strange side effect on the pup. The cooler air acts like a turbo on a car.

He is wanting to run everywhere when on his walks, continually leaping into the air after his lead, the daft thing is nuts  it must look very odd at about 11 at night and half five in the morning.

I wouldn't mind but I am still trying to mend my knee from when he was convinced that it would bend sideways!

Do other sheepies pick up with colder air :?:

YES!
Mine act the same way...this year has been a little different since Stella Blue is not doing well...but they deffo get frisky with the first cold blast.
Oh yes :D The cooler weather removes every sensible brain cell from their furry heads. This mornings walk included "all star wrestling", catching the leash and playing with it, chasing after those "agressive" leaves and subduing them and finally, just when the walk was almost over...they settled down to walking calmly beside me.

Of course...this is probably one of the reasons we enjoy this wonderful breed.

Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Abby
oh yes! our afternoons at the park have become more spastic than ever! :D
for sure! it also makes for less pacing in the middle of the night!! panda is sleeping soundly now!
ooh yeah and its not just the oes but my other dogs too grandad grumps even wants to play now :D
ooooh yes like a leaping frog and grabbing every branch or stick he can carry and running in circles.
Jackson is much more spastic than usual these days. The one good thing I'm liking about the colder weather is that she is coming to the door more often than usual. I don't know if it is the weather or if the training (and pleading and begging and treating and....) that is finally kicking in, but either way I will not complain :D It is nice not having to run outside in the cold to try to catch a crazy dog
Oh definitely!! The wigglebums are loving the colder weather. We've had frost here a few mornings and they love it. :D It recharges their batteries! :excited:
yep...
Without a doubt. It makes me wonder if they are uncomfortable in the regular 70 degree temps of the house!
YES!!!!
Mine are WILD!!!!! :excited:
YES! Annie runs in the yard like she's a puppy and it doesn't even require Fozzie pestering :D
mine was very excited, especially when I opened the door and it was white a couple of weeks ago. He looked back and smiled like a kid in a candy store.
YES
Oh my YES! Our four month old puppy is WILD in cooler weather. Leash grabbing, bounding around, chasing every leaf that falls! She LOVES the cooler weather. I thought it was just the "puppy crazies" but I really think it's a trait of the breed.
Oh, and did I mention that wind makes her nuts, too????
Oh yes. :D

Chewie loves cold, and he loves the wind.
So I decided to "harness" all that energy!!

Love those flying ears! :D
DEFINITELY Loki is a slug in the summer heat - Moving away from the air conditioning is not something he does willingly. Now that the cooler weather is here he spends hours in the backyard, bouncing around and herding the yard. He's actually lost a little weight due to the increased activity, which in his case is a good thing. Maybe I should be thinking about moving to the South Pole?
"does cold air turbo charge your sheepie". Hmmm.... lets see what Tonks and Luna think....

as of this morning at the park, I'm going to say that the answer is "yes"!!!
:D Yes: Willoughby goes bananas and when there is snow, he runs along, burrowing his nose in it like a snow plow! 8)
Oh my yes!

Jake especially used to get a whiff of cold air and he'd get sooooo excited.

"This one" (Mully) is just friskier.
Chauncey is in for a definite yes.
Bob offered to give him to an unknown lady that admired him on his walk last night, even offered to return with everything she needed for him :?
Must have been an interesting walk, but Chaunce seemed to enjoy it, he was still going strong when he got home.
Chauncey does want out more and is more playful even inside.
I also notice a difference in activity in the summer when he is typically clipped.
Yup, Dodger saw the snow last night and was asking to go out every 15 minutes. Then today when I got home he went running, full tilt around the backyard, came in, shook off, then went back out for another romp... I need to find my slippers for all the snow he drags in!
in fla it was 50 out and turbo duffy has not stopped running
Snow showers here today, Chauncey is a happy dog.
Barney I wouldn't say gets turbo charged, but my dog who hates to go outside wouldn't come in yesterday morning! He just sat out on the patio sniffing the cold air :D Too bad I was late to work and had a hard time making him come in!
definatley yes
I've observed this turbo effect on my dog as well. But, does it EVER get too cold for a sheepie?

I remember freezing in Lake Tahoe, and all my pup wanted to do was play in the snow. Do dogs need to wear snow boots or something for extended play or hike in snow? Do sled dogs wear boots?
Sled dogs do wear boots. Not all the time, and not usually for temperature reasons. More for bad snow and ice conditions that could rip their pads. Or for very long runs where the constant abrasive properties of the snow would wear away at the pads.

Chewie has never seemed to have cold feet out running last winter, but all the rest of mine do. He is so disappointed when they are cold and holdng their feet in the air, wanting back in the house! Last winter he had this look like"why won't anyone stay out and play with me?" :(

He'll have to come here or have some relatives visit. The day we had that blizzard last winter and even bundled up I couldn't stand to stay out for more than a few minutes at a time I could not get my idiots in. Or the foster dogs for that matter. They were all in sheepdog heaven. Makes you wonder if they really originated in Southwestern England... :lmt:

None of mine have ever had a problem with any body parts getting cold but one of Chewie's uncles once got a mild case of frostbite on his you-know-whats  I suggested his breeder knit him some ballwarmers. She was not amused...

Kristine
That is a real great picture. 8)

And you amuse me with the thought of knitted ballwarmers for the sheepies....

Bert loves the cold too, but we have not had much snow yet. It will come soon enough.
