Hi All
Hope everyone is well and coping with the adventures of oes life.
My pup is 11 weeks.... we are havign so much fun not sure who is training who but I do know who is having most sleep!!!!!!
Muffy is barking at everyone one that passes by when we are walking. Its a sociable bark but scares children.
I am not sure how to deal with this I am making her sit and saying quiet and treating once quiet am I rewarding the barking this way?? can anyone help with ideas.

I would make her walk past them without the sit and a trea t- youi are reinforcing the barking. you need to be aware someone is coming and keep her attention - sort of interrrupt the process. if she passes a person without barking - then treat her.
:) Thx for your reply we walked on the beach this am and I tried your suggestions it was much better...... although it is difficult when she doesnt listen and strains on the lead and barks at people. Its early days yet I will keep up the distraction tactic.
Thx I have lots to learn about oes's and find this site a great support.

I have two and one reacts like this. my trainers and behaviorists keep telling me - never take them out unless I can be 100 oercent with them. otherwise I am not going to be able to anticipate everything. I'll let you know if I ever get it right.

One thing I know is when mine acts like this it seems like the end of the world to me. I noticed last week at an event a numner of other dogs doing similar things and it didn;t seem like a big deal so get some perspective and when she/he starts straining on the leash and barking walk the other way - always have escape routes available. they are probably just nrevous about the big scary dog. it can get better.
