chewing gum with Xylitol

Xylitol (found in sugar free chewing gum) is enough to kill a 65lb dog. And QUICKLY!!!!! Please pass this warning on to everyone you know who has dogs. It may just save a life.

Thanks. I did not know this!!
I'm pretty sure, since the gum was at the edge of OUR sidewalk (we have 4 kids), it was not sugar-free. They aren't allowed gum in the house, so I'm hoping one of my litter was just being lazy about throwing it away. (boy, that kind of makes me sound like I should win the mother of the year award, huh?)

I do very much appreciate the information. I think my dog is ok. It has been several days since he stepped in it. I will pass on what you said, though. Scary. Just when I thought I had the raisin, onion thing under control, now gum........ :)
I can no longer get sugar free gum because Chopin insists on sneaking into my purse and finding the chewing gum--became safer to just buy the safe kind as no amount of zipping or hidding the purse does any good:(
