Go vote for the new Whitehouse puppy!

I voted for the "mutt"!
lets not forget the daughter has allergies - the way I understand it this is what the true labradoodle was bred for. unfortunaltely, they will probably end up with an American version which just throws a labrador and a poodle together and you get a mish mash of degrees of hypoallergenic dog.

It may be unpopular, but I think every responsible kid deserves a puppy and people should not be forced to think they need to rescue a dog. i am not sure that does the dog any good either. why is this not a personal decision - like te ones we made to get our dogs? perhaps maybe more educated than some of us, but personal.
I told my husband a long time ago that I bet they choose some terrier or small toy dog purely because it's their GIRL'S dog. I also think these polls all around the net "what should their dog be" are a waste of time. I'd bet anything they're going to a few rescues and going on the "which puppy can win the hearts of the girls the most" radar to pick their dog. I guarantee the girls have already told their dad what kind (type) of dog they want. :P
To say that they'd choose a toy dog or a little dog because it's for their girls isn't fair. I would have KILLED my parents if they had given me a little dog...
They may very well pick a big dog like a lab or something, but 9 times out of 10 ...the young girls at petco are interested in my maltese over our sheepdog. They know they can hold and dress her rather than be jumped and drooled on. That's just my guess that they'd pick some terrier, but once I read their girl(s) had allergies ...now I'm leaning more towards a toy breed.
Last night I hear their first pick is a sheltie, but due to allergies ...that's out. Then there were toy dogs, but obama said no because he doesn't want toy dogs.

Maybe they'll fall into the promises of some rescue from a byb who promised their labradoodle fit the bill.

that does seem to be part of their appeal, doesn't it? They seem like people you'd be ok having over to dinner.
Nah, I don't want kids at my house. They can bring the dog, though.
ok...so where is the sheepdog so I can vote!?

I just hope they pick the right breed for their lifestyle. Norwich and Norfolk terriers are absolutely gorgeous. I always loved those dogs too!!
Can we send them a list of OES rescues???
Alot of kids with dog allergies tolerate OES well, and they won't shed on the furniture. I can picture some poor WH usher being dragged through the rose garden by a 90lb ball of fur  That would be better than Barney biting the press.
I was looking at a list of Hypoallergenic dogs and it was missing our very favorite breed... what's up with that.

Absolutely DON'T do this to our breed! This would do more damage than all the Shaggy Dog movies combined and rescues would be full of dogs that people have no clue of how to properly care for. There would be more impulse buying and promoting of BYB's and puppymills... it would be horrible.

Let's just keep the OES a "secret" among those who are interested in the breed for what they are and not for how fashionable they may be.

that's how I feel!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said Nita!
I think a Wheaten Terrier sounds like a lovely idea for the white house (hides Old English Sheepdogs behind back)
thie has been a topic on the Lagotto list as well - a truly hypoallergenic breed.

I say let the kids get whatever dog they want and whatever breed has to deal with it. I don;t think there has been a run on scotties witht he Bush'e having them in the whiter house and honestly I don;t see the Obama's as an OES family. lets spend our energy on real issues.
Maybe Sarah Palin will send them a pitbull
Just heard on the news, they're new pick is a goldendoodle.
oh well it does in some odd way make sense for them and lets hope it will be a much loved dog.
Just to clarify, they didn't say that's what they picked ...just meant, that's what the girls want now. :)

oh we have all been there haven't we with the kid's.

sorry it's about time we had a real family in the white house, it may give us some perspective :D :D :D
The new dog comes in a few months according to the news. They picked a Portuguese water dog. /according to E
I saw on msn.com that they are getting a dog and have one from a rescue. I saw the black and white dog on the msn page and thought "OMG they're getting a OES." But nope....
