My dog wasn't as lucky as those two that survived. I had five dogs who lived togethr for years. This past weekend I found that they had attacked one of my older dogs. (11) She was the pack leader for years and now my American Bulldog and, I think, my mastiff mix attacked her and she didn't make it. We had to have her put down. My husband wants to get rid of the American Bulldog but keep the mastiff mix. The AB is 6 years old and the mastiff mix is 10 months old. The AB had visible bite marks on her, but, I just don't think that she could have inflicted the wounds that the older girl had. I think that we should keep all of the dogs and retrain them with us as being the pack leaders. Any advice you can give me will be a great help. We are all heartbroken right now and need to get through this. |

I'm so sorry . Was the older dog ill or infirm in some way? I have heard of situations simliar to this where the younger, healthier dogs attack becuase they sense a weakness. I don't have any real advice but I hope you all can get through this |
I don't feel qualified to answer this. I know nothing about your other dogs but feel the AB is being unduly blamed. The younger one could have actually caused the problem. You just don't know.
I worry about the remaining dogs and their interaction now. Your pack is unstable and I think there are some human issues here too. |

I'm not sure what advice to give you either. I do remember a post sometime back about a dog having a seizure and the other dog in the household misinterpreting the signals. It could have been something like that perhaps that triggered the attack.
You have my heartfelt condolences to the loss of your older girl. You'll be in my thoughts.
