Gifts for my Girlfriends Book Club

Every year I buy a little something for the ladies in my book club for Christmas.

There are 10 of us (so I need nine gifts). Ages are mid-30s to mid-50s. We don't do "big" gifts, just a little something thoughtful. I don't want to spend more than $100 on the whole kit & cabodle.

In the past, I've done scarves & gloves, decorative Christmas dishes, spreaders (for dips, cheeses, etc), candles, and soaps.

Y'all are always good at this, so I'm asking for help. :plead: We exchange gifts at our December meeting, which is the first Monday of the month. Hence the early shopping necessity.

Any suggestions? :?

I love getting fun stationery or decorative little journals to write in. You can get some really cute stuff for a reasonable price, too.
How about pretty bookmarks or those booklight 'torches' that clip on a book for reading in the dark? My daughter got me a really neat thing called a 'thumbthing' which fits on one thumb to hold open a book with one hand!

I use it all the time especially when I'm sunbathing on holiday!

Just some quirky ideas for you!
A book bag, although I like Karen's idea better :)
I like stationery, too. That's a good idea.

Karen - that thing is really cool. I've not seen one before. It would definitely come in handy with all the reading we do. I'm going to Google it and see where to buy or order some.
Along those same lines, I saw a lady in Atlanta Bread Company one day reading at her table at lunch. She had this thing that held the book open hands free while she ate. I thought that was really cool, too.

Great ideas! Keep 'em coming!! :D
Some bath salts...or a bath pillow ...relaxing with a good book and a scented bath....
I went to the site daisymog posted, and it led me to a wonderful site with 1000 stocking stuffers for women. Thought there could be some cute ideas there, even if it was a basket full of these items.

...and there were the thumbthings! Now I have to seriptitiously learn my friend's thumb sizes.......

I'm assuming thumbs are one or two sizes larger than a finger??

love the stationary idea - and if you find the hands free book thingie - please post I could so use one of those 8)
Kerry, type in Google "book holder for reading." There's tons of "hands-free" gadgets.
cool - thanks

I always think those are great gifts except when I get them. I'm allergic to everything. Sometimes I feel like one of those people who are total bummers about not being able to eat peanuts.
How about a pretty pen...we love to collect cool pens in our family.

Mrs. J! What a great site!!!!
Those are some cute things. I like the luggage tags. 8)
Tammy, not to hijack your thread but will TOES be doing the tree this year? I must have looked at last years 50 times :)
No problem, Holly. :D We SO appreciate everyone's support of our rescue Christmas tree. We have discussed doing something similar, but a bit different this year. A final decision hasn't been made yet, though. I will definitely let you know once we decide. Thanks for asking. :P
I decided to make a stocking and definitely include these for all the women in the family (there are more on the riGHt hand side. 8)

Still hoping people share more ideas on presents for "the girl friends" b/c I'm clueless!
Here's a fun stationery item:

That's pretty cool. I'd love to see the looks on their faces when I tell them what it is.
Tell us what you decide. I need ideas too!
Just spent 300 in stocking stuffers at spoonsisters (even got the thumb thing for their books). I couldn't resist all the cool things. I hate Christmas spending. It's evil.

FYI: coupon code: FALL
This year, my sister and I decided to do gifts only for the pets. We have too hard of a time buying for each other (well, she has a hard time buying for us, I'm fine!) and she has five cats and a dog and I have the three dogs so I figured we were even in spending. I think it'll be good this way. :)
I WOULD LOVE that. I hate the headache of trying to figure out what people want. By people, I mean parents and in-laws. I would much rather find a gift for an animal than them. They've got 30+ years of marriage and junk in their homes, so they never need anything. We agreed a few years ago that getting gifts for sisters and brothers was too much, but that's because we have 7+ nieces an nephews we have to get gifts for. Because of that, I left the animals out of the loop last year. Everyone got us gifts for the animals though, so I felt horrible.

If anyone has gift ideas for dads then I'd love to hear it. They have every tool in the book, and they all don't get used. My dad wants CD's but I can't just give him that. Other dad is asking for a bucket full of homemade stuff. Everything just gets overdone. Giving them college stuff, golf stuff, books, etc.

btw, if it helps anyone else (gift ideas), I'm getting my mom a kolo photo album (the newport one). They're absolutely beautiful in quality, contemporary, and something you can keep on an end table/console. Great to fill photos up of grandchildren too. http://kolo.com/shop/products/?cat=20
Yesterday I found some very pretty, classic photo frames and decided on those for the book club. I really liked the thumb thing idea, but figuring out everyone's thumb size seemed difficult. I've been to each of their homes (everyone takes a turn hosting book club) so I chose something that would fit their decor.

I agree, sometimes it is difficult figuring out what to get people. So far, I've got three gifts decided. For my brother, I'm getting box sets of TV shows he likes. He deploys in January, so he'll need something to watch while he's gone. My dad needs a new camera. It's an expensive model, so we're all going in together to get it for him. My oldest nephew is a budding Speilburg and he wants a video camera. So, my sister and I are getting him an inexpensive model to shoot his first movie.

I like the idea of buying for the animals, too. Good plan Jill. I usually include them, too, when I'm buying for the other family members. I make them homemade cookies/treats, too. They always enjoy those the most. 8)
