Buyer Beware
 Last year I bought a Casio Exilim EX-Z1050 and I've been really pleased with it. 
Usually, I take really, really good care of things. But, I've had a run of bad luck with this camera.  I put it into a "safe" pocket in my purse which mysteriously also had a nail file in it.  Scratched up the screen and case, but only cosmetic damage.
Then, I dropped it in the sand at the beach last month and now the lens cover doesn't close properly. 
Yesterday, someone was taking a photo for me of the wigglebums and when she handed it back to me it dropped on the pavement and dented it pretty good. Remarkably, it still works. But still...
So, today I'm online looking to replace it. 
Retail is $349 and this website has it new in the manufactuer's packaging for $139. I can't help but be suspicious. Has anyone ever bought anything from them?

| I ahve not purchased from them (Fotoconnection), but they have over 1000 ratings on that (Everyprice.com) service, if it is to be believed.
It might not have the US Warranty... but at that price it may still be a good deal. Pay by credit card!  |
| I had never heard of this site, but it sure it interesting! I checked on overstock.com, which is where I've bought a few things very reasonably. But they didn't have this exact camera new, only refurbished. Let us know what you decide to do!
On the flip side, I looked up the pricing for a Nikon camera that Spencer is interested in, and the competitive pricing for that was about the same as overstock.com. Hmmmm . . . |
| I've bought from wacky unknown places like that several times using their ratings systems as a crutch and *knock on wood* I haven't had any problems. I bought my GPS and a LCD monitor with success.
For most things electronics, I like New Egg. They're respected and dependable and usually have excellent prices. I think I got my camera from there. Here's almost your camera, I'm not sure of the differences between the 1050 and 1080: CASIO EX-Z1080 |
| Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I think I am going to order it and take a chance. If I use a credit card, I can always dispute the charge if it isn't what it should be, huh?
I don't know the differences between the 1050 and the 1080 either, Jill. I assumed the 1080 was an updated version, but I'll have to look at the specific features and do a comparison to see. I've never used New Egg, but I'll check them out before I buy. THANKS!! |
