George is sick

Yesterday I thought that George had himself stressed with the fireworks and so was off his food.

However last night he really got sick and was vomiting. This morning his little eyes are bright red and he has no energy and won't go for a walk, eat or drink.

Hes had nothing to eat for over 36 hours now and won't even have any of the things he would normally wolf down or even a treat

He is going to the vets as soon as I can get an appointment.

Hes never been this sick before, and I'm so worried. Hes just lying about with no energy at all.

I'm praying its nothing serious and he will recover soon

Oh Vicki, let us all know how George is getting on, hope he is feeling better soon. xx
Sorry to hear George is feeling poorly - please let us know how he is  Sending big hugs to you too - its horrible when our fuzzy ones are ill.
Well George has been to the vets and his vitals are all good.

She thinks he has either eaten something he shouldn't have or he has picked up a bug. He doesn't generally pick things up when he is out and he never takes biscuits or treats from anyone except people he knows!

She gave him 3 injections: 1 to stop him vomiting, 1 vitamin injection and 1 to ensure he hasn't dehydrated.

He has to have small amounts of water to drink at anyone time (so he doesn't gulp lots andmake himself sick again) and he can't have any food for another 24 hours.

He is a little better tonight but he is showing no signs of wanting exercise or food, and he is still lying round with no energy. he can walk about for a bit but then he flops again.

We have to take him back if he is still vomiting in a day or so and when he gets food he is only to have chicken and white fish, pasta, rice and boiled potatoes. He will love it!!

The vet did check his eyes and aid his lower lid on his right eye curls in slightly which is rubbing against his eyeball. He can have an operation to have to corrected!

Right now I just want him back to normal and full of life again.

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes hes had a few cuddles but he really can't be bothered right now.
Poor George, sorry I have only just noticed your thread. They are so worrying when they are ill. Hopefully it is only a 24 hour tummy bug. I hope he has picked up a bit now, Summer sends him slurpy kisses to see if it will cheer him up!
Keep us posted please, we will vibe like mad in our house!
I'm glad that George is feeling better. The meds should kick in and he'll be back to his old self soon!
I'm glad to see this update, and know that whatever is bothering George, its not life-threatening. It sounds like the poor guy has the OES equivolent of the flu. I think he has earned that whitefish and pasta dinner!
Poor George - give him a snuggle from us when he's feeling up to it. :( Hope he's feeling even better tomorrow.
I hope Georgie feels better soon! :hearts:
I hope the meds work to settle down his tummy. :D
Sounds like something similar one of ours had years ago. Gets to be a bad circle of eating/drinking and being sick.
I hope he's on the mend soon. It's tough when our guys get sick.
George doesn't appear to be any better this morning.

Hes still lying round with little energy and showing no signs of wanting any food.

I hoping that it just takes him a couple of days to get over his "bug" and he'll be back on his paws in no time.
Keep a close eye on him, and if you are at all worried ring the Vets. They are such stoic dogs they can be worse than they let on. Sorry if that scares you but that is what the vet said about the one we lost...

Comeon on George get better soon.....xx
Don't hesitate to take him to the vets if he's still not right, but perhaps after a rest today he will feel better. Rufus would love that food too! x
Poppy and Sweetpea are planning to join George for dinner......
Hi Vicky, hopefully George will be okay, I had this with a Beagle he was also scared of fireworks and got all stressed up at this time of year.

He used to crawl into a corner and would not come out for days, as long as George gets water he should be alright and next year you will have to discuss with your vet what you can do about him at this time of year.

Our Beagle used become tranquilisers to keep him calm.

Fingers and paws crossed for George.
Poor George. We hope he feels better soon.
Poor George!!! Get well soon!!! Im sure once he has seen the chicken and fish he will be soon feeling better!!! Bless Maizie & hatt's send him a BIG

Hope he is feeling a bit better when you get home tonite Vicki!!!

((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))) George!!! xxx
Hi Vicki,

Hope George feels better soon.. poor boo boo.

My Bernese Mountain Dog Dudley is terrified of fireworks and would work himself up into such a frenzy that he would not be "right" for days after. Vomiting, no energy, wouldn't eat.. much the same symptoms as George.. after a few days he would be back to himself.

Now when I know there are going to be fireworks on particular occasions, I give him Benadryl to relax him a few hours before the scheduled time, this seems to calm him alot.
How is George feeling now? Hope he is a bit better...xx
Unfortunately in the UK they start to sell fireworks ready for November 5th about a month beforehand and some people think - why wait until then to set them off?? It wouldn't be quite so bad if it was just one night - then we could be ready for it but this year - beacuase Guy Fawkes night (Nov 5th) is midweek - many people had parties last weekend - then there will be more tomorrow - then next weekend - some people decided Halloween would be a good time..... it just goes on and on!

Stay calm George and hopefully you'll be ready for some yummy food tonight - let us know how he is Vicki. We're all thinking of him. (and you!)
Hi Vicky,

hope George is feeling better now! We send loads loads of Sheepie hugs to him!

I did had vomiting before with both of my Sheepies and most of the time they just have eaten something wrong or had a bug, I'm hoping it's the same with George. It always tooked ca. 3 days before they got better.

Keep us updated!

:ghug:
Wasn't it here someone had a dog who wasn't responding to the bland diet so they Xrayed and found something lodged inside.....fortunately just before the stomach or intestine exploded. So while "bug" might be correct, it could still be an intestional blockage. Keep a close eye on him!! Dogs aren't usually sick for more than a day or two unless it is serioius.

Get better George!

well, my recent experience is it can trigger pancreatitis in some dogs and that can go on - well for weeks as in Morgan's case.
Vicki, how is George? I keep coming to see if you have posted. I hope everything is Ok...loads of sheepie cuddles and slurpy kisses from Summer
(both of the dogs seem unconcerned about fireworks, probably as hubby is putting up a picture rail in the front room and you cant hear yourself think!)
any news about george .. hope he is doing better
Hi Vicky how is George today? Hope all is well, we are thinking of you x x
Hope things are better today. If not I would call the Vet again.
Hope George is feeling better...
:ghug:
I hope we hear something soon; not knowing is worrying!

Be well George!!!! :hearts:
Sorry for not posting sooner. I have been off work toay and getting George ready for all of the fireworks tonight :?

He is much better today. he wanted to go for walks today and for the last 3 days he hasn't even been in the garden! I also got my first cuddle in 3 days :D

He is starting to eat little amounts again too. He had scrambed eggs for tea tonight and that was the first time he ate everything!!

There have been some really LOUD fireworks tonight and he was stressed until I gave him some Bachs rescue remedy and that has really calmed him down!!

The Vet rang me today to see how George was (she really has a soft spot for him) She said that because of the way he has been it is possible he has been poisoned. She thinks he has picked something up during a walk and it has upset his stomach. he doesn't eat anything on a walk and even doesn't take treats from anyone, but she did say that he may not have eaten anything it may just be that he sniffed the wrong thing and it has passed on to him.

Anyway he is on the mend and that is all I wanted. :phew:

Thank you to everyone for their good wishes. Its been a big comfort to "talk" to people who understand how you feel!

George sends you all a big :ghug: and lots of

XX
thaks for the update! Tonks and Luna send sloppy kisses !
So glad George is on the mend. Its a shame its firework week he doesnt need stress from them! Is it the rescue remedy that is in the bottle with like an eye dropper?

Slurps from Summer....xx

Yes - I gave him 2 drops as adults get 4. I waited until he was panting then dropped it on his tounge. A few minutes later he was calmer. Not mellow but definately calmer! Hes getting more tomorrow
So glad to hear George is getting better. This is Poppy & Sweetpea's first firework night at home and I'm sorry to rub it in but I've been so pleased with them. They were outside supposedly 'going for a wee' but secretly just playing together when a loud rocket went off and they just paused playing long enough to bark at it and then carried on playing. I'm really glad they weren't stressed out by it all. Poor George. Daisy used to hate them too but nowhere near as badly as George - he really didn't need to pick up something nasty on his walk when he's already stressed out.

Give him a big kiss from all of us and hopefully you can sleep a bit easier tonight (when the fireworks have all stopped!)
I have some of that stuff it doesn't work with me, 10 drops still no good! I like trying it though!
YAAAAAY!!!
What good news to hear that George is on the mend!
Phew.

Here's to George and a face full of spaghetti stuck to his face :D

I wonder if he has been tempted by a some of the fallen berries at this time of year.

If the birds don't eat them that is always a good hint that they are toxic.

I have had to persuade Archie not to munch on the swollen Rose hips we pass by as I am unsure about them.

George was great last year until 2 little ******** threw a firework at him when we were out for a walk. Now hes a quivering mess whenever he hears one.
Oh poor George - I didn't know he'd had a 'close encounter' with one. No wonder he's terrified - I would be too! Hope he's continuing to get better and hopefully get this weekend out of the way and we won't have too many more going off. Give him another cuddle from us.
oh the poor boy - they can get so frightwened if one comes close. Marley had one go off over her head and now anytime she hears any noise like that swoosh she drops to the ground and scans the sky. luckily they don't bother her otherwise. hope george recovers quickly.
Honestly Vicki I think you should move. Fancy coming daaan saaaf with us?

I'm so glad George is OK. I guess dogs can pick up anything on a walk and you just don't know.
:ghug:
